The other day on the way to work in Buzz, all of a sudden then engine started running on only 2 cylinders. So I limped home and took Linda's car. Today I worked on it, and found that one of the spark coils had gone bad (one bad coil = 2 bad cylinders). No outward signs of damage -- it just quit. Luckily I had another set of coils at home. All better now.

Actually, I didn't. I had both a spare set of coils, and a spare ignition module. First, I replaced the module, with the old coils. Same problem. Then I put back the old module, but replaced the coils. Problem fixed.

Does the ICM on the duke go bad often?

FWIW, I've never seen a real pattern. They seem to be fairly random.
Not trying to jump the gun on Pat's answer, however. He's got a lot more experience than I do.
(I've owned two DIS Dukes, and never had one fail. But I didn't drive them that much, either. My first Duke probably had 120K on it. My current one has ~150K. But I bought them both used, with unknown repair history.)

Yeah, his is DIS. How about the earlier dukes?
