I don't participate in the club road trips mostly because I don't want to put a lot of miles on the Mera, and because Mrs. Fiero GTB considers riding shotgun in a noisy car for several hours to be the automotive equivalent of water-boarding.
I do, however, always like to help out the club, and I certainly enjoy camaraderie (and good BBQ) with my fellow members.
When I used to race the SCCA off-road rally circuit, we always had "sweep" vehicles follow a few minutes behind the last car (or leapfrog ahead to be waiting as the group passed) to provide any assistance.
Would it be of any help if I threw a bunch of tools and maybe some common parts in the back of my Saturn suv to handle any minor repairs along the way on drives like the upcoming Canyon Cruise, RFTH, etc.? I could also carry a siphon, empty gas can, and some unopened oil, coolant, brake fluid, extra electrical wire, that sort of stuff that always seems to come in handy.
My second question is, is there anyone else in the club who would like to navigate for me and give me someone to chat with along the way?
We can talk about this at this Saturday's meeting, but please feel free to post any thoughts here in the meantime.

With that list of tools, parts and equipment, you'd think we were driving a bunch of Fieros or something. Doesn't matter what you drive, just come along and join with the group.

I don't wanna hear anything about Fieros breaking down too often or anything... you get any group of 25+ year old cars together, and somethin's gonna snap, fall off, or start making strange noises at some point.
My '87 GT was one of the most reliable cars I ever owned. I traded it in on a '90 Cadillac Allante' (which is the Italian word for "time-share"). It was the only car I ever owned on a time-share basis: I got to drive it 2 weeks per year, and the mechanics got to keep it 50 weeks a year.
I was a member of the Allante' Owners Associaton, which Mrs. FGTB always referred to as the "Allante' Victims Support Group."
At an national Allante' get-together (117 cars!) in New Orleans one year, I had breakfast with a former Allante' project executive in Turin, Italy, who had just retired from Cadillac and would speak more openly about some of the problems with this (beautiful but frustrating) automobile.
I told him (and this is the honest truth), that because of two of the smartest marketing moves in Cadillac history, Mrs. FGTB bought a new Sedan de Ville:
1) was their Gold Key loaner program where they gave you a fully loaded Sedan de Ville with all of the latest gadgets and comforts whenever your Allante' was in the shop, and:
2) the introduction of the Allante' itself, which assured that you got to spend a lot of seat time getting spoiled by all the features of the Gold Key loaner!

Your Lady isn't going? Shanine and Patty's daughter are going, so she'll have ladies her age in the group.

OldOne lost the draw, so he is sentenced to riding with me on the Cloudland Canyons Cruise this Saturday, March 17th.
I quit smoking 20+ years ago, but have substituted my nicotine cravings for daily meals of kimchi, spicy curry noodles, beans and onions three times a day.
OldOne, you're not having any second thoughts about being in the car with me for nine or 10 hours, are ya?
