I found the following on the Georgia Triumph Association website. They normally hold the annual Polar Bear Run, so I think this is taking it's place this year...
Drive ! Mircros in Madison, The Farewell Tour
When: Saturday, Dec 29, 2012
Where: Madison, Georgia
Description: Join all of our motoring friends to close out the year by going on a fabulous drive to Madison Georgia. The day will wind up at the Micro Car Museum that is loved by all. We will say goodbye to 2012 and to the museum which is closing for good. Dont miss this final opportunity to see some of those other "Little Cars".
Date: 12/29/2012
Time: 9:00 AM AM meeting, 10:00AM departure
Starting location: 1525 E. Park Place Boulevard, Stone Mountain 30087 (At Hardee's & The Outback Steakhouse).
Drive to Madison for lunch and shopping. At 1:30- 2:00 PM we'll leave for the Microcar Museum for seeing the small cars before they get sold off in February.

;D
Bump for the Club.
Several of us went on the Polar Bear Run and had a lot of fun with that group.
I've seen some photos of the Micro Car Museum but haven't been there personally.
This sounds like a good event to attend. Thanks for the heads-up on it!
-
Could this be a 'caravan' trip?

Could this be a 'caravan' trip?
I imagine that it's going to be just like previous Polar Bear Runs. All the cars will meet at the designated starting point and be given directions to follow (sort-of like Run For The Hills). The Triumph Association normally picks a very good rout between the start and the destination. But it's not a "run", just a leisurely drive, and lots of fun.
And since you know the destination, you can put it in your GPS in case you get lost. But it's more fun to drive with all the other little cars.
-
The Microcar Museum is incredible! I've only been there once, but if I have any chance of joining the Polar Bear group for this trip, I am THERE!
I'm also pre-registered for the Feb auction! Uh-oh.... don't let Mrs. Chevelle know that!

last years Polar Bear Run was great, they pick out a really good route 8)
-
It sure was a lot of fun (I think it was last year)! The Don had a broken fan belt on the way to the start (BOO!) but had a nice fellow stop and help. I wound up running with 3 different packs and ended with a group of 2 MG's and we had a BLAST! One of the guys told me at Helen that he was sorry if they held me up. No way I said. They are a group of folks just like us, out to have fun!
But in Helen, I REFUSE to pay $4 for a pretzel and $10 for a beer. I'll bring my own like the rest of them next time.
-
Yes, we really regretted missing out on last year's run.
I think I can motivate my Duchess to go on this year's run.
Just shows that you should stay away from 84s ;D

Who's planning on going this year?
FGTB
-
I, maybe we, are planning on going
-
I'm going.
Don't forget, we have the club car for use by any dues paying member and I may also have the 86 available, too. Plus I have an empty seat for a ride along, but would prefer someone meet me out in the Lawrenceville area if they want to ride along with me since I'll be coming back on a more easterly path.
Rain is forecast for the day.
-
Me and jen will try to go! Last year was great me and ray ended up leading one group and almost getting them lost lol. Was tons of fun so if we can make it we will be there!
-
Charlie,
Want to meet before heading out to Stone Mountain?
Roger, any chance you will join us too?
Convoy?
-
Sure thing! Were you headed to the Arby's in Stone Mtn.?
I told Fiero GTB that's where I would meet him.
Convoy sounds great!
Where could we meet with Fierofool?
Topnotch, are you and GrannyLinda going?
-
Roger,
would you mind having Shanine as your co-pilot?
-
Love to have her ride along.
I'll enjoy her company and she can bring me up-to-date on her car.
-
super! :)
-
I can meet you guys at Advance Auto on Buford Drive, just before Hwy 316. Probably should leave there by at least 8. Could pick up on Pat & Linda at some point going down Scenic Hwy. 124.
Just got a new set of radios for Christmas and while reading up on operation, found out that to operate on Channel 7, we should have an FCC license. Channels 1-7and 15-22. That leaves us 8-14 and anything above that. It warns of possible severe penalties if caught operating without an FCC license and call sign.
I suggest we try channel 8 as we travel to the meeting place to see how it works.
Roger, are you talking about the Arby's inside the park?
Anyone planning to use the club car? I'll know tomorrow if the yellow 86 will be roadworthy. (alignment)
-
According to FCC Rules (http://www.fcc.gov/encyclopedia/family-radio-service-frs), if the device is a GMRS/FRS device, you can only operate without a license on channels 8-14. If the device is FRS only, you can operate on all channels without a license. The GMRS devices operate on higher power on channels 1-7, and that's why you need a license for those channels.
Some devices have a power output setting, and if you set them on lower output power, you can use channel 7 without a license.
-
Duchess, when do y'all expect to leave home? I'll pick up Shanine at that time.
Charlie, I believe that I can have you operate under my license. That means if you use any bad language or transmit at a power greater than 5 watts on FRS frequencies, I get charged with the violation. I'll give you my ID when I see you.
I don't know anything about any Arby's in or near Stone Mtn. yet. If it was inside the park we'd have to pay admission wouldn't we. Plus, if we come within site of that artificial snow hill I may lose my composure. I'll Google the Arby's.
TopNotch is right. If those are GMRS you'll need a license. Anything over 500 milliwatts on any channel is illegal without a license. Channel 7 is okay according to the frequency table if using no more than 500 milliwatts:
GMRS Repeater Output / Simplex (7) 462.700 462.7125 FRS Ch 7 (GMRS 5 w. allowed)
GMRS Repeater Output / Simplex (8) 462.725
-
My radios are the GMRS high powered ones. I don't see anything on them to reduce power.

Check the menu settings in your manual.

Roger,

I think Rockin'Roger's taking some hot chick he knows. So, if his passenger seat is filled, FieroFool and I both have seats open.

Shhhh! You weren't supposed to tell anyone.
Everyone,
Kindly disregard Fiero GTBs last post here. He is mistaken.
ps: You're working your way to a lump of coal for next year pretty early aren't you?

I guess these days, if a man shows up with his own wife, it's a scandal!

The yellow 86 is roadworthy if anyone wants to use it.
-
The club car is, too.
-
So, are we going to meet up and drive down together? If we are, where and when are we meeting and who's driving down together?
-
I guess if Roger comes over to our place @ 7:30, we can meet wherever is convenient @ 8 AM?
-
Advance on Buford Drive OK? Pat, are you joining us somewhere on Scenic Hwy or driving down on your own? Chaz, how about you and Jen?
-
Sounds good to us.
Roger, you game?
-
I'll just meet everyone at the HARDEE'S / Outback Steakhouse meetup point between 9 - 9:30 a.m.
(If you go to the "Arby's" directly across st street on Stone Mountain Highway, you will be in the WRONG location).
The meetup point is just outside Stone Mtn Park, so no entry fees.
Have we decided to be on Ch. 7 or 8 ?

Donster,
I'll see you at 7:30am. Can Shanine manage getting up that early?
Will you have coffee?
-
We'll probably go on our own. We can get there in time, leaving at 8:30, by going down Five Forks to Lake Lucerne, then down to 78, then to Park Place. We used to live in that area, and are familiar with it.

Somebody please bring along a spare (or 2) ignition module for a V6.
Just in case!
I just had a 1 month old GM unit go bad. The Wells unit that went out previously had been in there over 10 years! I used my spare GM module and feel awkward without having an extra.
Thank you
-
Have 2 in the trunk!
\D
-
Me and Jen won't be going sadly we have a birthday party we are obligated to attend, and I may be going with my grandpa to look at cars afterward. Sorry we can't make it but everyone have a good time!
-
Sam Memmolo, host of Fox Sports TV's Griot's Garage Treasures and nationally syndicated radio program Sam's Garage will be meeting up with us at the Microcar Museum.
I cleared this with the Ga. Triumph Assoc.
Sam's not only a great, likeable guy, he put the NUT in Car NUT!
This should be a lotta fun...

The trip was fun, but notably missing from the collection was the Peel P50 (world's smallest production automobile), which was there the last time I went...

And here's a funny video about it...

I viewed all 85 pics.
Thanks Tim!

I did, too. Forward and backward. I was going to post some of mine, but I think Fiero GTB just about covered it all. Great slide show.

;D
A BIG thank you for those pix Tim!
Thank you Pat for the Peel P50 page.
Don, you should post your pix anyway.
Have we ever invited the GTC to our RFTH?

Looks like I missed a good time. Thanx for the pics.
I definitely think we should invite the GTC to join us at RFTH. The more cars we have the more fun it is....and their cars are as well suited to those roads as ours are.
-
I invited almost 50 sports car clubs to join us at the Poker Run and also for the PDX at Road Atlanta, including the Georgia Triumph Association. You all know the results of those.
