Title: Second Annual Hot Summer Wheels Car show - Saturday July 12th
Post by: Raydar on February 09, 2013, 11:06:40 am
Announcing the Second Annual Hot Summer Wheels Car and Motorcycle Show
To be held at the Clinton Nature Preserve in Villa Rica GA.
A benefit for Boy Scout Troop 39.

Several of us attended last year, and had great fun!

There will be live music, brought to you by The Way Back Band.
Vendors, prizes, goodies, food, and a soft, comfortable environment where you can relax.

This is no asphalt or concrete parking lot. The venue is a large well manicured grass field, so you can take off your shoes and rest your feet. There will be room beside or behind the cars to set up your lawn chairs, or a picnic. Room for an EZ-Up if you desire.
There are walking/running trails, and a walking track if you desire. (Sorry no motor vehicles on the tracks or trails. This is, after all, a nature preserve.)
Rest room facilities are provided.

Updated links will be posted. Be sure to watch this space, or the newer posts in the thread.

We are expecting over 100 cars in the show, with over 1000 people projected to be in the park throughout the day, as we are hosting a 39K footrace on the same day, at the same venue. This fundraising event would not be possible without the sponsorship of our local businesses who believe in the scouting organization; which provides youth with the structure, knowledge, guidance and support to grow morally, physically, mentally and spiritually. These scouts are the future leaders in our community, and we are asking your support through this fundraiser sponsorship.

I like that park.  It's nice to have a big grassy area to park on.  I expect to be there.

Thanks Charlie!
I was actually a little surprised when Sam moved his last show from this venue to Boundary Waters. This one is much nicer.
============================

A little bit of background on this show...

One of the organizers is a gentleman name Bo Hunt. He's a good friend of mine. Father of my God-children.

He approached me last fall about putting on a car show.
I told him, "Man... I don't know s#!% about putting on a car show. And YOU don't know  s#!% about putting on a car show."
In the past few months he has gone about proving me wrong, in a big way.

He already has got quite a few sponsors lined up. Has entertanment and concessions lined up. (See links above)
And he has enlisted the help and advice of other people who have already done shows at the same venue.
Has this thing pretty well nailed down.

I mentioned at the last meeting that there was also going to be a 39K footrace/run at the same venue.  I was forced to second guess myself on the length. But I was correct.
So if you know any "gonzo runners" that might want to participate in a 39K trail run (you've really got to see this place) tell 'em to come on!

And remember, all proceeds are for the benefit of the Scouts. Troop 39.

I am going to forward a link to this thread to Bo, and invite him to register and comment if he'd like.
Charlie/Pat, if you see a forum registration request from Bo Hunt, please expedite it. Thanks!

Hi Georgia Fiero Club,

I would like to first thank my friend, Steve, for bringing our show to your attention. I would also like to thank you for your interest in what we are projecting to be a great show!

We have arranged 2 bands for the event; a Beatles Cover band scheduled from 10:30A- 12:30P, and a band called The Way Back Band, a band that plays Top Tracks from the 50's, 60's and 70's playing from 1P- 3P. To see their partial playlist and hear their clip, go to www.waybackband.com/

We will have goodie (swag) bags for the first 150 registrants guaranteed, and for everybody who registers (with payment) before June 1st, a free event t-shirt is guaranteed. There will be dash plaques, hand-made trophies, created by Boy Scout Troop 39, a very unique and unusual 50/50 drawing, and much more.

It has been rumored that Sam Memmolo will be out after his radio show airs Saturday morning for a meet and greet and to check out the cars. We have over $1000 provided to us for a Silent Auction, with products ranging from Sound Systems and window tinting to alignments and free massages.

It is going to be a great event benefiting a great set of young Scouts! Registration is now LIVE online as well at www.HotSummerWheels.com.

Also, look for us on Facebook. Go to the community site and "Like" us, (https://www.facebook.com/HotSummerWheelsShowAndShine) and help us spread the word about the show. Let us know that you stopped by, and have an interest. Go to the "Events" tab, and click on that you are coming. It's awesome to see new people on our Facebook site. It really gets the Scouts excited to see people taking an interest.

Thanks for everyone's time and review. I look forward to seeing you guys on Facebook, on the registration page at www.HotSummerWheels.com, and at the show!

Hey Don,

Thanks for your support! There is a play area at the park, and lots of room, even with the show. Our show area covers 110,000 square feet, between the playground and the main road. the Show area is tiered, with the main staging area on the top tier, with 2 different bands playing through the day, food, vendors, 50/50, door prizes, auction, hand made trophies and lots of Hot Summer Wheels on July 13, beginning at 10am. Go to www.HotSummerWheels.com or find it on Facebook...

Thanks Don!

This is short notice, but who wants to move the meeting to the car show?
In any case, we need to decide on a route for RFTH soon. Two routes have been submitted for consideration. So the meeting's important.

Do you think that would be a good idea.  Some people don't read the forum and just show up at the meetings.  Remember last month that Mike and Terry drove from Murphy, NC only to find we were at the cookout?

You're right. We better keep it at the diner. Besides, maybe Johnyrottin will come.

Okay...
Been a while. Finally getting around to posting some pics.
This was the perfect day for a car show. Upper 70s - Low 80s, a mild overcast, but not a drop of rain.
There were 60+ cars there. More were expected, but several cars/clubs bowed out due to the fear of the rain that never materialized.
There were two bands. Ezra Church (classic rock, southern rock, a bit of metal) and the Way Back Band (60s, and 70s party music. Great musicians and *superb* entertainers.)

This is Ezra Church. (part of them, anyway)

I was too busy listening to the tunes to take pics of the Way Back Band.

The Fieros were represented by Don Hulse, Darrell, David (Don's son-in-law) and me.

Of course, AeroDon

While not the most spectacular or the most flashy, this was one of the more interesting cars there.
A Porsche 904 "tribute" built by Beck Development. 260 HP and ~1800 lbs.

A kindred spirit

Golden Hawk

A nice 69 Chevelle. This was the first show this car had ever entered.
The guy was visibly nervous. He won an award. (Several, I think.)

A trio of 62 Chevies. Two Impalas...

And a Bel Air Rat Rod

You don't see these any more (Where have we heard THAT before?)
This Maverick had a nicely detailed 302. Spotless car including the alligator upholstery.

Of course, the Mopars were represented.
A 440 Magnum 73(?) Charger

A 71 Challenger R/T 340

This one cracked me up...

...because of the window sticker.

A very nicely restored 92 T/A 'vert

A very nice 34(?) Ford sedan

This was the only year that a greyhound hood ornament was offered as a Ford option (as the story goes)

Lots of chrome!

My personal favorite. A 69 Chevy Fleetside. The paint looks about 1/4" thick.
Pics don't do it justice. The details were amazing.

"Best of Show"

I have quite a few other pics, and hi-res version of all of them. These were just the highlights.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention... Don won a "Top 25" award. He was pleased (as was I.)
All trophies were hand made by Troop 39.

It was a great show, I think! Seemed like everyone had a good time, and there were a lot of unique cars, trucks and bikes out there. Beginning to gear up for next year... Thanks to those from the Georgia Fiero Club who participated. You represented your club well!

Holy smokes! I need to add some bike pics, too! I neglected those.

Thanks for a heck of a show, Bo. You and your crew (and the Troop) did a superb job.
I'm looking forward to next year!

WE'RE COMING BACK, HOTTER THAN EVER!!! The 2nd annual Hot Summer Wheels Show and Shine will be back at Clinton Nature Preserve on Saturday, July 12, 2014! I know that it is the 2nd weekend of the month, and your Club meeting is on the same weekend, but you have time to make plans to have your club meeting in Douglasville in July! Come out and enjoy the show, listen to GREAT music by the Way Back Band, and support Boy Scout Troop 39.

Once again, it is guaranteed to be the HOTTEST SHOW OF THE SUMMER!!!

Thanks Steve, Don, Darrell and David for last year's support!  Remember, the 50/50 drawing is a little different... 50% to a single ticket holder, and 50% to the most represented car club. Golden City Cruisers won it with 15 cars last year. I know that the Fiero Club can represent with more this year! Come out and enjoy the fun...

I'm looking forward to it!
This is easily one of the coolest, most laid back, and most fun shows I've ever participated in. The venue is just perfect. Much nicer than a hard, steamy parking lot. (For those who came to Sam Memmolo's first show, a couple of years ago, this is the same place.)
If you like old 60s rock and roll, you've got to hear The Way Back  Band. Not only are they great musicians, they are superb entertainers.

Can we update the date in the Subject: line for this year's show, or start a new thread?  I'm afraid that people might show up one day late this year, based on the "July 13" date in the subject line...

Thanks for the suggestion. The thread title and the first post has been edited to reflect this year's show.
Pertinent information will be edited into the initial post as well as in the continuation of this thread.

On behalf of Bo (scoutdad) and Boy Scout Troop 39, I'd like to thank everyone for their support.
You guys rock!

This was brought up at our meeting last weekend. We took a vote and we ( The Georgia Fiero Club ) will be holding our July meeting there. Not all of us have "Show "cars, but we can come out and support the Boy Scouts and have a great time looking at show cars.

Guess what??? Steve aka Raydar won it last year! Could it be 2 years running? What about top club? Get ready for Saturday, July 12 at Clinton Nature Preserve. Registration only $20.

...and all proceeds go to support Boy Scout Troop 39! A great cause to boot... See you there!
