Are you saying you cooked the engine and need to replace it?

I realize this was from years ago, but given the car's current issues...

Did he have to replace the engine?  He says it didn't run hot.

Don was barely computer literate, and not used to using a keyboard, His mind and hands worked much more quickly than he was able to type out. (If you ever met Don, you know how quickly he worked. Even in the final stages of his illness, he probably had more energy than I do. Or at least acted that way.)
I'm thinking that the motor he was replacing was the fan motor. I remember him having some issues with those.
The last engine he put in it was the 3.4. And that was WAY before this.

So, the current engine is a 3.4?

I never met him.

Somehow, I remember him saying he had a 3.1 bored and stroked close to a 3.4.  The only way to tell would be to look at the starter mounting area on both sides of the engine.  If it has bolt holes on the trunk side, it's a 3.1.  If not, it would be a 3.4.  In any case, I positively remember him saying the engine was bored out.

It was a 3.4. I was with him when he picked it up from Ed.
It was a Grooms rebuild that Ed had swapped in, for a customer. It developed an intake manifold leak and watered down the oil. Ed replaced it under warranty.
Don bought it from Ed as a "rebuilder", at a substantial savings. He replaced the bearings (I think) and it was good to go. Everything else was fine.
But yeah... being a rebuild, it was probably bored to 3.5.  At least that's what Don said it was. I never bothered to do the math. :D
