Hi all ye left behind ;D
Just a quick hello from across the big pond. It has been almost a month and I'm glad to report that all is well here in Germany.
Anne & Shanine are doing fine and I'm having a blast at my new job. And I really really really like my company car! ;D
Even though I was told I would get an Audi station wagon, I got a brand new VW Golf TDI instead. What a joy it is to drive this thing on the Autobahn!!!
So, until I have a bit more time to post some pictures and give a more elaborate report..............take care.
\D

Wishing you all lots of Fahrvergn

Too bad you had to go that far to find a job and employer you liked. Woulda been nice to still have you around. Hope Anne's family is doing well, too.
-
Charlie,
while I appreciate what you say, the reason I moved to Germany was more for Anne's benefit, so she could be close to her sick mom.
As I have very little family in the US, it wasn't really a sacrifice on my part.
\D
-
Glad to hear your job is a blast and that Anne and Shanine are doing well. Hey, a Golf TDI is a fun car. Maybe next year you'll get that 245MPH Bentley! Anytime to drive on the Autobaun is fun. Americans are so stupid and the highways look and ride like do do here.
Did you get an office with a nice view?
Can hardly wait to see some pictures.
Hugs to all (except you). You need a shave.

Hey from this side of the pond here in Western Sydney australia

Right back at you!

Hi all,
Just a quick hi from across the pond. ;D
Been at my new job for an entire month now and lovin' it more and more every day!
But here's the bummer: I need to take 20 days vacation before the end of the year (I only have 40 days annually......sucks, right?)!
Although we haven't decided where to go yet, it will certainly be here in Europe somewhere. Anne has mentioned Croatia or North Sea a few times, but I'm leaning towards Tuscany/Northern Italy.
If anyone wants a postcard, send me your snail mail address via email. ;)
OK, enough bragging for now.............y'all take care.
\D
-
Hey, I recommend the Northern Italy, Lake Como area. Melanie and I stayed at the Villa D'Este and traveled up and down Lago Como on a big big boat. Bellagio for some of the finest silk ties in the world, Gravedano, and other interesting towns along the lake are easily accessible by lake. Cheaper than renting a car and more relaxing than driving.
Milan, the ancient Cross Roads of the Roman Empire isn't far away by tour bus. That's also where the original mural of The Last Supper is located and Storzesco Castle where many many of Michael Angelo's statues and paintings are on display.
-
Find a place with twisty roads, rent a car that corners well, and have your own Run For The Hills. ;)
-
Bummer. Sorry to hear about your vacation time.
Oh well, at least you have the Autobahn, cleaner air, no gaudy billboards, great beer, no litter, and so on.
Be careful in that Golf GTI! I hear they can be little speed demons!
-
First we did Lugano, Switzerland, now we are in Reno (not Nevada), Lago Maggiore, Italy.
The word Awesome can't even describe it here.
\D
-
Some post-cards should have arrived by now.
Next on the agenda is France...... if I can get approval. :D
\D
-
If you've never done it and you get the chance, take a ride on the Orient Express. Amazing experience and some truly beautiful scenery that you can't see from a car.
-
I got my postcard from Italy!
I do love postcards!
-Sharon
-
We'll be heading to France this weekend.
postcards anyone? LOL
-
Meeeee!!!
-

postcards anyone? LOL
Me too!!!
Me and Brenda feel like we're getting to see it with y'all!
-
Missed France every time I was in Europe, except for the aerial view. I'd love to see something from ground level.
-
-
Sorry, totally forgot about the postcards from Paris and Euro-Disney. :-(
It was just too hectic.
I'll be sure to send some form Castle Neu Schwanstein end of the month.
BTW, my company took away my Golf and gave me a A180 Mercedes instead! Jerks! LOL
\D
-
That Castle Neu Schwanstein is such a Mickey Mouse place!
:)
FGTB
-
Was that an A180 CDI or Sport? One is good for hauling butt, the other for hauling car parts :)

One would think that they would at least have the dignity to offer you a SLK 350, in red, with a sunroof.
-
Donster:
With all due respect: Pfffft! My employer (the school board) has offered to have me driven to and from work every day in a $90,000 vehicle that seats up to 66! It's bright yellow.
;- )
FGTB
-
WOW!
My yellow limo only had seats for 30.
-
So you rode the short bus?

And your point is...?

Can't post pics, as I haven't installed the program on my new PC yet........but here's a link to a few snapshots:

I can tell by the facial expressions that Europe does not especially agree with Anne and Shanine.
Glad to hear (and see) that all of you are having a great time!
Thank you for sharing. Keep'em coming.

Next on the agenda in February (business) is
China, Canada, Pittsburgh, Malta.
Might have time for a detour to Atlanta. :D
\D

Anne & my 25th Anniversary is coming up this month, so we've decided to go on a cruise in the Atlantic Ocean; Island hopping on the Grand Canary Islands (Spain) and Madeira (Portugal).
So, for those that want a postcard, you know the deal. :-)
I keep deleting the emails with postal addresses for postcards, plus I'm getting old and have CRS, so you need to remind me! LOL
Once we've taken the cruise, I'll post pictures here:
http://kienlen.net/Kienlen/gallery2.htm
Greetings from Germany,
\D
-
Good to hear from y'all!
HAPPY 25th ANNIVERSARY!!!
The way things are going on cruise ships lately, don't drink the water and don't eat and you'll be okay.
Have loads of fun! Miss y'all and say 'HI' to Shanine.
-
Server at Sago Networks in Norcross crashed, so our links will be down until I rebuild a new server here.
Also new email address until then:
whitehairedguru at Gmail dot com

-
Thank you for the postcard! Y'all look like you're having a swell time!
Hope you had a GREAT 25th!
Please, please, PLEASE let me carry your luggage next time?
I'll polish shoes, iron clothes, check your meals and drinks for poison...
-
Thanks Roger...and yes....and yes!! :-)
BTW: old email works again, but website will take a while.
\D
-
............we're baaaaaaaack. :-)
Finally have the time to post again and got back on the site here.
Greetings to all from Europe!
BTW: Some postcards were sent from our last trip to Italy (Lago Maggiore, Verona, Venice, Bibione), hope they arrived.
Next trip in October again...........this time Florence.
Those that would like to be on our mailing list, let us know. :-)
\D
-
Quick update, haven't been here in a while:
Family is doing OK (Shanine had a trgic loss on her last birthday, but doing well again)......so..Life is good, job is good, money is good. :-)
June agenda: Anne, Shanine and myself are doing Verona, Florence, Pisa, Rome & Pompeii.
Cards will be sent.
Cheers to all!
-
Good to hear from you. I'm happy that everyone is doing well.
Travel safely.

Forget the cards, send plane tickets :D
-
Sorry....can barely afford the postcards :-)
-
Some postcards should have already arrived from Castle 🏰 Neuschwanstein in Bavaria. :-)
-
We got ours, yesterday. Beautiful, beautiful, but I don't think I'd want to be there in the time of year that was taken. Too much snow for me.
When I brought Tegan home from school, she saw the card and was looking at it. She later told Mel that was her Doll House.
-
Thank you for the card! That's beautiful!
I hope y'all are having a great time. Thank you for sharing your trip with us!
Joos!
-
Currently in Rome...overwhelming city!
Off to Pompeii in the AM
Some cards should have already arrived :-)
\D
-
They already have the 'Running of the Bulls' in Spain.
What about the 'Running of the Lions' in Rome?
Pompeii...just RUN!!!
Glad to hear all is FUN!!!
-
The picture post card was almost as good as plane tickets. Thank you. Looking at the buildings, aside from the history, it comes to mind that it's so amazing that the technology of those days is still standing strong today.
I tried to find a place on the Globe Postal site to enter the code on the stamp so I could view the video, but it said it was an invalid serial number. Will keep trying.
Hope you enjoy many more trips around Europe.
-
Finally back home again....and back to work. :-(
7500 km trip, but worth every kilometer.
In two weeks we are off to Malta....postcards can be sent :-)
-
8)Thank y'all so much for sharing your trips with us!
I took a wondrous trip to the VA hospital in Brookhaven last week.
What a time me and my dad had! :P
Can't wait to see what next you have in store for us!

Everything ok?
BTW, we drove by Coleman Barracks and Hotel Weber yesterday. Ring a bell? :-)

Back from Malta, was absolutely amazing down there.
Next trip is only Frankfurt, to visit the IAA. Doubt that there will be any Fieros there, but am excited to see what is new on the car market. :-)
Cheers from Germany

This is just to be funny--not a commentary on anything other than the subject:
-
OK, next trip is planned:
April 2018 New Orleans for the Jazz & Food Festival.
While we are there (2 weeks), we will fly to Kansas to visit some of my family for 2 days, then return to NOLA and then fly back to Germany.
Maybe there will be time to also visit the ATL area for a day or two. :-)
Cheers,
\D
-
Excellent! Happy to see you're doing well. :) "Hello" to everyone.
-
Cool!
-
Might have to organize a Run For The Gumbo! ;D

Well, the rabbits finally did it. For the benefit of Donster:

We had hasenpfeffer, topped off with speatzle, with corn and peas and potato salad.

May I presume that y'all will stay in NO for the opening of the festival and 1st weekend?

Happy New Year to all of you from all of us in "The Old World"!

What a coincidence....LOL
I actually made rabbit "Maltese Style"...with heaps and heaps of garlic on the 24th, then on Germany's first Christmas Day (they have 2 here in Germany, 25th & 26th) I made the traditional (American) turkey!
We probably all gained about 10 lbs over the holidays. :-)

Yes, you may presume that......LOL

Hey, Don! Anne missed her birthday wishes in Buncha Burfdays.
Hope you guys are doing well and that you can drop by to see everyone while you're over here.
-
I checked the calendar, and it's April 2018. Don?
-
Sorry, had a last minute change of plans. As some of you may have already gotten postcards from us, we obviously didn't make it to the states, but instead went to the Mediterranean island of Mallorca (Spain).
NOLA is still on our schedule, but not until later this year. I'll update once we know when.
Cheers from here to there :-)
\D
-
Pics?
-
Don and Anne, thanks for the postcard. Hope you're well, and I expect you are in view of your travels.
Please update your profile info so that we may contact you on occasion. If you come to the states later in the year, maybe you can make it on the 3rd weekend of September. Some of us have extra Fieros capable of navigating The Dragon.
-
Hi all!
Just an update.............we bought a Fiero!!! Yes, we found a nice little 88 Coupe, all original, great shape, low milage, registered in Germany as an "Oldtimer".
Haven't uploaded pics for ages, so don't remember how to do it, but trust me, it may just be a 'lil Duke, but it looks like it just has a few miles on it and absolutely no wear or tear anywhere. Even the seats are prestine!
White w/tan interior.
More info to follow.
Greetz to all
\D

Good to hear from you, and great news about your acquisition!
Send pics to the club email and I'll post them for you.
-
Good to see you, Don! Best to everyone, please.
Congrats on your purchase!
-
Are you going to resurrect the Phoenix?
-
Are you going to resurrect the Phoenix?
No, there will always just be one Phoenix, and from what Fierofool has told me, the Phoenix is probably gone forever. :-(
Anne's "new" Fiero will get a mother of pearl white paintjob and we will call it...........very original.............."The Pearl". We already have a logo designed for it, just need to find a place that will make custom nose badges and custom decals with our logo on it.
\D

Already spoke to Paul........he doesn't make "domed decals/nose badges", but we'll be getting other customized items from him.

That is sad.
-
Sad indeed, was a great little car.
Anne/Duchess loved it and it broke her heart that we couldn't ship it to Germany with us.
\D
BTW: Thnx for posting the pics.
-
OK, next vacation is booked for September:
Italian Riviera! City of Imperia.
Will be going to Nizza (French Riviera) for a day and then in the other direction to Florence once again.
But no, not with the Fiero! ;D
Same rule applies as always; Ye who want a postcard, let me know. Preferably with your postal address.
Cheers!
\D
-
You should take a vacation to RFTH in September. You could borrow a car to drive in it. ;)
-
Maybe he's out of practice for some curves.
-
Sorry, albeit I loved the RFTHs that I participated in, given the choice between a RFTH and hanging out 3 weeks on the beaches of the French and Italian Riviera, guess who is going to win? ;D
But don't count me out just yet, a visit back home is still planned, just don't know when, perhaps next September.
Trust me, 3 weeks in GA would have cost us much less than the Riviera!
Maybe he's out of practice for some curves.
Not likely.........We have the Alps and the Autobahn over here! :-)
Cheers,
\D
-
As our vacation approaches tomorrow evening, just a reminder:
Same rule applies as always; Ye who want a postcard, let me know. Preferably with your postal address.

\D
Some of you, I already have your address.
L8er!
-
Back! ;D All I can say is: AWSOME!
-
Glad you enjoyed yourself.
-
OK, due to a new law, I'll be coming back to the US some time after the end of Juli, to get a new veteran's ID card made, as they won't issue them overseas. I need this new ID card to continue to get on US bases overseas for shopping, banking, and so on. Of course, I need to wait until this COVID-19 issue is over. :( My choices are the VA Medical Center in Atlanta, Bay Pines in Tampa, or the VA Center in New Orleans. Hmmmm.....which one should I choose? ;D
\D
-
If you happen to come over in late September, maybe the club's Fiero will be ready, and you can borrow it for a run. ;)
-
Yeah, I've been reading about Charlie's SE........that would be cool! :-)
\D
-
OK, after a while of absence, I'm reporting back. ;D For those of you, that did not know, I had a so-called "Disctectomy", which means I had 2 of my discs removed and replaced with artificial discs and then had 3 of my vertebrae fused, C4/C5/C6. I had an accident back in the 80's, which the Army didn't treat right, and about a year ago my hands kept going numb, so it was time to do this.
Anyways, I'm walking and talking again..and the Pearl is "still" driving nicely. Too bad this COVID has most classic car/oldtimer activities on hold. :-[
Life is good again!
\D
-
Remembering from an accident of my own, I believe C8 is the last vertebrae in the neck. So, if 3 of your neck vertebrae were fused, any reduction in neck mocement?
-

Actually, there are 7 cervical vertebrae, C1 (Atlas) thru C7.And yes, unfortunately, I have lost a bit of flex, can't look down as far as I used to. Not much to see down there anyways. ;D
-
I got shorter. They put a halo on me, and put bolts in my skull. That's my excuse on why I'm not flexible. Yep, that's the reason.
-

I think there is still a couple of screws loose.......... :P
-
Just a couple???
Actually, the halo is only for a few months. If gives the vertebrae time to heal.
-
OK, after a long while, I'm back again.
Walking, almost pain free. Just can't sit for a long time.
Did I miss much? ;D
-
There's always something going on here. But on the other end, we missed you. Welcome back Donster. Hmmm! Sounds like a good title for a TV series.
-
Well, one thing I missed - Charlie finally got himself an avatar! ;D
-
Yeah, it was actually because of a neighborhood forum I'm on. Most people use a photo of themselves or some put their little kids or dogs in their avatar. I and both my dogs are old, and it isn't wise to put little kids' pictures on social media if perverts can identify where you live. Since it's a local forum and I have a habit of getting into some local issues, I didn't want everyone knowing what I look like should I encounter them in public.
-
Wait...you don't have wings?
-
Wait...you don't have wings?
I'm definitely no angel. I don't get into arguments with my fellow Fiero people because I really love them. Sometimes, I just turn off the computer before I say something I shouldn't because there are some people that just ...well, they just...
-
Hi all!
Seems like I am back again (after yet another cervical spine surgery, with fusion and disk replacements). Hands were paralyzed from a spinal channel stenosis.
But I am getting around again. And Anne and I will be trying to take the Fiero for a spin now and again, albeit it is very difficult for me to get in and out of the car.
Anyways, just wanted to say hi!
\D
-
Good to hear from you again. Was wondering if you still had the coupe. As you know, Anne and I connect on Facebook occasionally.
Were you recently in New York? That's where your IP pinged.
-
Don;
We are so happy to hear you are improving in your recovery. I am going in for an MRI on my lower spine. I crushed 5 discs in my lower back wnen I was 32 (52 long years ago} and it has been a problem since then, but now I can only stand, walk or work for 15 ? 20 minutes and I have to sit for awhile. The rest of the body and mind are in great shape so I want to see if there is anything that can be done make my life more normal. We still get to take the LIttle Black Car on runs in the mountains about once a month.
Hope you keep improving;
Harry

Harry - glad you are doing good.
Yes, I know exactly what you are talking about.
Hope you'll feel well enough to make another trip to Germany, and this time we'll meet up! ;D

I've been gone for so long... Is there still a newsletter?
-
Has it been that long? The newsletter ceased over a year and a half ago.
