Title: Module Madness
Post by: aerodonamic on July 31, 2013, 09:27:23 am
David Brill has  an 85 V6  4spd . This car is continuely burning  out modules ???  Any help with this problem would  be appreciated. All parts in ignition system are new inc. distributer. I told to contact Lee Arnette to find out what  ECM he had installed in the car. as this the only unknown factor. David used correct heat sink , but still to be a heat related problem. Thanks aerodon.

Don and Anne had module problems, too.  Has the ignition coil been replaced?  I know the car has some extra grounds that Don installed, but I'd also check for grounds between engine, transmission, cradle and body.

Make sure that the electrical connections to the module and coil are clean and making good contact. Try removing the connectors, spray the contacts with WD-40, and replace the connectors.

Using enough heat sink grease?

There should only be a thin film of heat sink grease between the
module and distributor plate. Make certain that the module mounting
screws are free of corrosion and any grease. They electrically ground
the module.
Radio Shack has a much better heat sink grease than what you get with a module.
Their grease contains silver. It's about $6 for a tiny tube but it is money well spent.
