I've invited the club to come to my house on April 12, the day of the meeting, to start work on The Joel Project. Mostly, we will be assessing the task we have at hand, parts needed, and the quality of the donor car.Is The Club Buying The Food ?

Bring folding seats sipping stuff if you want anything other than water. I will have a cooler of bottled water. Bring your own tools to accomplish minor work and diagnostics. I have a floor jack and jack stands, ramps, jumper cables, timing light and distributor wrench.
Once you're on Hwy 316, keep in the right lane once you get into the construction zone else you will be forced to make a left turn toward Buford. After the construction zone, you can move to the left lane for your next turn onto Winder Highway, Hwy 8.

I have just spoken with the person who is donating the 2 88's to us. Many of you will remember long time Georgia Fiero Club member Mike Barr. Some will also remember Dave Bellville and his 88 Fiero, Mike has donated Dave's car and his own 88GT to the club. They are basically ready to go on the road with just a few minor tweeks. He is doing this with the condition that they go to Wounded Warriors Project recipients, or proceeds from the sale goes to WWP.
We should have pictures of both cars within a week. It will take 2 vehicles with tow dollies or trailer and a spare set of tires for each Fiero to go to Maryville, TN to bring them back.

Our normal drive to Charlies would take 4:26 (293 miles)...if we were to drive by and pick one up on the way, it would be 7:28 (389 miles). It really would be the most efficient way to get one of them back. Would we still need tires if I use the trailer? I forget the details....what kind of sleeping space is there Friday night?
Problems with this..it would mean only two of us can come (but Colin wasn't a sure thing anyway). The real issue is that it would use more gas. I calculate about $125 difference between this and taking the convertible straight there and back...and Sharon and I are both real tight on money right now.

At this time, don't bother to go by and pick one up. Just come straight down. It's only about 4 hours from here and I have no problem with towing one back on a dolly.
I don't have a spare bedroom, so I can't offer anything other than a sofa with 2 built in recliners, a separate recliner, a living room floor, or a place to pitch a tent. There's a Jamestown Inn and what was a Holiday Inn Express about 5 miles away, or the better motel that you stayed at when we did the poker run, about 7 miles away. There are others about 12 miles away at the Mall of Georgia. Oh, yeah, I have a front yard camping area for roughing it in a tent. Front door will be unlocked for night excursions to the fridge or bathroom or you can use the trench latrine in the bushes in the back yard.
If Colin isn't coming, get my Haynes manual from him. I gave him the correct one that goes with his car.

I'll have it greased and tires full. I've got one of those fancy 'bottom air' compressors.

I'll need a tow bar and ball, but I already have a receiver and the wiring for whatever kind of towed device.
If someone wants to loan the club a trailer (Greg?) I have a safe place, behind a locked fence, to store it until arrangements can be made to return it.

I popped in a headlight switch and only the right headlight will raise, but it won't go back down. The left one does nothing. By that time, I was working in the side reflection of a security light and couldn't get into the front to check headlight wiring connections. I operated both motors manually and determined that the bumpstops in both are gone so the motors will need to be rebuilt.
After giving it a couple of shots of starting fluid, we got it to fire off again, and it continued to run on it's own. We began getting lots of smoke from both front and rear of the engine, but I don't know if it' leaves or if the valve covers are leaking that badly. We'll see tomorrow, if I have time.
Should we go with the cars from Mike Barr, this 86SE might be one that the club could sell for some good parts. The engine sounds good. I never thought to pull it into gear to see how the automatic transmission reacted.

I will, however, be available for other days/times to tow a trailer or dolley, as discussed, if that opportunity comes together.

It does have 87 rims on it. I looked at some other pictures to see if they'd put both fronts on one side like another 88 I saw once. I didn't really question it since he has another set of 88 rims that go with them. 84 or 88, as long as it's as good as these, I don't care. These look like they really give us something to work with.

Even though we have these two cars, tomorrow can be used to evaluate the 86SE that I have here to determine if we also want to refurbish it as another donor, raffle, or sale project. I have to make contact with John Harbor who started the Joel Project to see what his desires are. I've gotten no replies to emails, PM's, or phone calls, for the past 3 or 4 months.
