For sale: 87-88 headlight system to include rebuilt motors, wiring harness and module. $225.00
-
Why is the 87-88 system better than the 84-86?
-
The earlier headlight motors use a system of relays and limit switches that are prone to failure, and are slow and noisy. The 87-88 type use an electronic control box, and are faster and quieter.
-
I am underwelmed by the response.
-
I thought you had installed those into your 86. Somebody had asked me about the 87-88 system but now I:'ve forgotten who wanted one. Bring the harness along with you to the meeting and let me look at it. I need to see if it's a plug and play to replace these flushmounts I have on the 86. I might be interested in taking them off your hands.
-
Yes, i did put one of those systems on the 86, this is a spare system. When i changed over my 86 it was plug and play.
-
What I really need to check is what Scott cut out of the system when he converted to the flushmounts. If I can just remove everything that's cut and plug in the new system, that would be ideal.
-
It would be easier to change out the entire harness. the harness plugs in at the forward bulkhead connector and you replace everything from there forward.
-
That's what I'm hoping. Hopefully nothing else is cut.
-
When I did my 86, I spliced into the existing harness. It wasn't hard to do at all, and I was able to mount the control box in the spare tire well, where I can easily get at it if it fails, instead of in the fender well like on a "stock" implementation.
-
Why can't it just be mounted beside the headlight in the place where the Isolation Relay was originally located. Is there a particular reason it has to be inside the fender? Are there other wires that run from that area to something else, or from something else?
-
There shouldn't be any special reason for mounting the controller inside the fender except that it was probably easy to put it there, when the cars were assembled. (I'm guessing that all the mechanicals and wiring were installed before the body panels.) They already had wiring for the horns in that location, so it was probably just as easy to put the controller in the same general vicinity.
As for the flush mounts... There should be no need for any of the controller wiring. You should be able to just unpin it from the harness and remove it. Unless one of the controller wires was re-purposed for the headlights themselves, but I doubt that.
That is, unless you plan to go back with the pop ups.
Don installed the later harness and actuators in his car, I believe. I think he said it was completely plug and play.
John Champagne has also installed early harnesses and actuators in 87/88 cars, when the 87/88 motors were a rare commodity and the earlier pieces were plentiful. Said it was totally plug and play.
Scott... I might be interested, but not just now.

Hi There,
I just picked up my first Fiero and joined the forums here a few weeks ago. Haven't been to active besides lurking around some of the other posts and reading up.
My 88GT headlight motors are shot and the whole assembly looks pretty nasty and worn out. I'd be interested in yours. Im sure you would like to get rid of them after all this time. Are you still asking $225 ? Im assuming this is a pair of stock headlights and motors that should be a direct replacement for what I have ?
Thanks!
Colby

Im not trying to lose a sale, but you can fix those for around $30.00...... what goes bad is the delrin bushings that are used as shock absorbers inside the gears. There are a couple of vendors that sell those bushings. Its not hard to do at all.
-
I'll take the system! You twisted my arm. Got a PayPal account?
-
I dont.... do you have my phone number?
