Title: Fiero Factory Swap Meet
Post by: TopNotch on February 18, 2009, 05:39:32 pm
The Fiero Factory's 11th Annual Swap Meet (http://www.thefierofactory.com/swapmeet.php) will be on April 24th-26th. If you live in the Atlanta area and would like to convoy to the meet, please let me know. We will need to agree on a route and a time.

It depends upon which way Pat wants to go.  If we take the high road up through Rome and Ft. Payne, we'll meet you there.  If we take the low road out I-20 to Oxford/Anniston and up 431, we could meet you in Anniston.

Cogcavi, you refer to a schedule.  Are you working again?

nope, still unemployeed(which is a record for me). my wife is ready to pop, she is 38weeks, so any time now. i'm going to stay home untill she is back on her feet. i was basicly saying that i dont know my schedule that far out, but i'd love to go and will try my best to get myself there.

I'm going. Will probably go over late Friday morning.
I usually go the I-20 to Oxford/Anniston/431 route, but if someone else wants to go on Friday AM, and wants to go through the hills, I could be persuaded...

Ray will probably leave Friday morning and are up for either direction as long as there's a group.  Pat, have you decided which route we'll take?

The way I usually go is GA20 - AL35 - US72. I pick up GA20 at I75, exit 290. You could also pick it up at Canton or Cumming.

Where does GA 20 cross through west GA? Cartersville? Rome?

Dewey... I'm probably not leaving that early. Probably more like 10:00, from D-ville.
I try to arrive at ~noon.
That ought to coincide with folks coming from the east. Perhaps?

It goes through Rome. That's the only bad part of the drive -- a bit slow going through Rome.

That's the way I usually go, too.  From out here, GA. 20 comes through Lawrenceville, Buford, Cumming and Canton.  When you get to Cartersville, you can avoid Rome by taking 411 and going over to 431 in Gadsden.  You can run along about 70 all the way, and it's much more scenic.  Huntsville's about 4-5 hours from out here and I like to get there in time to check in at the hotel, and go up to The Factory to see what kind of early bargains I might find.  Ray and I can be in Cartersville at the Cartersville Plaza by 10.  It's right on 411, Joe Frank Harris Pkway.

That sounds do-able.
Where is Cartersville Plaza in relation to Hwy 61, or I-75?
(I suppose I could mapquest it.)

I just checked it on Google.  Northbound on I-75, you can get off on East Main Street, Hwy 113, turn left and go to E. Church Street and split right.  After looking at the satellite image, it's gonna be difficult to get back onto the northbound lane when leaving Cartersville Plaza.

There's a business with a huge parking lot on the corner of East Main, East Church and US 41.  That'd be a good place to meet, and easy to get onto US 41 North to US 411.

Coming up Hwy 61, merge right onto West Main Street, cross over US 41 and turn left into the first parking lot.  There's a left turn lane.

That works for me if it does for everyone else.

I might be heading there, plans were originally set a few weeks ago for me to go with my father however he now has back surgery scheduled for the 27th and to be honest I would rather not put him through getting in and out of my car right before then >.< (hes kinda tall), so if nobody would mind another car involved  ;). Though Im still not entirely sure if I will be going.

The more the merrier!

I know I've corresponded with you before, but I had in my mind that you were in Alabama.  Where you located?

GA. Just south of Griffin, about 1 hour from Atlanta I believe.....Its been awhile since Ive gone that way in traffic. I was at World of Wheels 2008 and I believe that we spoke there several times, mostly on how simple the Fiero body panels are to modify.

Yeah, it could have been Wolfhound I was thinking of.

My brother has a daughter who lives on Swint Road in Griffin.  You might see a black 86GT down that way from time to time.  Are you planning to drive up and join us?  A bit out of your way, but more enjoyable with a group.

Here's a link to the location I was talking about, above.  Zoom in to see the triangle area between East Main, East Church and US 41.

Watch out  for those rusted up and seized cradle bolts. They can be a pita and ruin your whole day.

I had planned on going then decided to stay at home. Then Julio decided he wanted to go and take a truck load of parts to sell, so I guess I'm going again. This will be the first one I've been to when it wasn't cold and raining. Scott I'm bringing your fender so you had better be there to get it.

I just checked the map. This looks easy enough. (Charlie, your link didn't work.)
Dewey, I appreciate the "escort" offer, but I think I can get there with no problem.

10:00 o'clock?

I just repaired the link.  You can zoom in and see the closeup of the intersection of Hwy 113 and 41.  Even change to satellite view to see the entrances to the triangle on the corner.

charlie that split where church street and 113(main st) meet forms a triangle with 41 as third side, on that triangle is a gas station, a krogers, and a mrs winners. the only place to meet is the parking lot shared by kroger and mrs winners. if you want more room across the street from krogers is a k-mart theres always plenty of room there. either way its not that hard to get on 41 north.   oldone in c'ville

If you have a GPS, you can get to the triangle of E. Main, E. Church, and 41 by setting it to 444 E. Church St.
Linda and I will be coming in her SUV. We won't be taking any curves at great speed, so if anyone else wants to take the lead, feel free.
And if you have anything you want to take to the swap meet, and it won't fit in your Fiero, get it to my house between 7-9 pm today, and we may be able to take it. Let me know first, of course.
I will be taking some aero door skins and some aftermarket chrome (not stainless) GT/SE exhaust tips, and whatever else I can find that I don't need.

Julio had the dates mixed up and has an auction to go to this weekend. So he's not coming and that means I'm not able to bring parts. If I feel good in the morning I might drive out. But if I have a headache I won't be there.

Wow, what a ride. I go great gas mileage. I only used 1 tank of gas to go 316 miles. Less than a half a tank going out there and less than a half a tank coming back. And you know I don't run speed limit.

Just got home about 5:30.  Worn out with a bit smile.  For those that didn't go, you missed a wonderful time.  I won't go into details about the swap meet.  Anyone that was interested was there.  Good caravan going over, and a bunch of wrong turns coming back.  I think it's Peter's car that got me confused on directions.  I didn't have his GPS.

Thanks, Pat, Linda, Steve, Don, Darrell, Dewey, and Scott from Indiana.
