At the February meeting, Pat asked about interest in participating in the Dublin St. Patrick's Day Parade again this year. If I can get at least 6 of the following cars firmly committed, I will submit our application.
Pat-2 cars
Ron Scantlin
Paul Ackerman
Ron Robinson
Steve Hamilton
Scott Brown

Looks like it's on 19march this year.

May I Suggest We Go Down The Night Before And Get Motel Rooms ?
I Think Pat Stayed At The Dublin Super 8 Last Year.
Also Pat Will Need Someone To Drive One Of The Cars.
-
I can drive one of them. I'm not going to put mine in this year.
So far, that's three. Anyone else?
-
Won't be able to make it this year.
-
Im out
-
I spoke with Summer at church this morning and she is willing to carry one end of the banner again this year.
-
There is the largest possibility that I won't be able to attend this year. Definitely won't be able to come on Friday.
What time and where does everyone need to show up?
-
Last year they staged us at The First Church of The Nazarene on Telfair Street. I think all the 155 groups were staged on or beside Telfair. We won't know where we're staged until we submit our application. I checked last year's thread and found that we needed to be in our staging area by 9-9:30.
-
I've printed off the application. When Pat and Ron determine we have enough cars, I'll submit it. The application has to be in their hands by March 11, so at the latest, I need to mail it by March 8, just two weeks away. As is usual with club participation events like this, I suggest that the club cover the entry fee. Cars must be decorated with a St. Patrick's theme.
I will not be able to go down there on Friday, but will arrive in time for the parade on Saturday.

How Many Cars Do We Have Going ?
-
Just the three that have confirmed in this thread, so far.
-
Looks like I'll have to miss the 19th.
-
I'm working on a 4th car. The minister friend of mine who has the gold 86GT said I could drive his if he gets new tires on it. He plans to do that by next week. The tires that are on it won't hold air more than a day.
If someone else can drive one of Pat's cars, that will make 4. Dave said he would be willing to drive it, if Pat agrees. At least 5 cars would be good, 6 even better. Ron768 is rearranging his schedule to try to make the parade.
-
Time to hit the dollar stores for your static cling decorations. Ray has been to Michaels and Dollar Tree and has found sheets for $1.00 and they include some very large decals. They also have shirts, hats, and other related St. Pats items.
They also have the eyeballs we put on the headlights last year.
-
I'm in. I will be there saturday morning.

Dave Can Drive One Of Our Cars.

My car just died. Clutch went out. Not going to make the parade. Too far to push.
-
We have Pat's 2 cars, Ron768's car and Ray's car that are solidly confirmed at the moment.
Saw TinMan browsing last night. I'll contact him to see if we can coerce him into joining.
-
Looks like Pgackerman might let me drive his mint condition 88!....maybe. we still have to work out collateral holdings, liability clauses, waivers and the such......
-
Next of kin, collateral, hiding places if there's a scratch.
The usual stuff.
-
We have submitted the entry form and paid the fee. We have two people to carry the banner. Please, everyone who said they will be there, don't drop out.
I have some decorations but feel free to purchase more.
-
OK, this is the lineup as I know it at the moment. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Pat-2 cars
Ron Robinson' 85SE
Ron Scantlin-Paul's 88GT
Ray's 86GT
My friend's 86GT
Does everyone have their decorations?
-
I Went And Got Our Decorations Today.
-
Party City also has some decorations. Ray got some eyes at either Hobby Lobby or Michaels, I believe. Dollar Tree says they get only 1 assortment package per store and when they are gone they get no more.
-
Everyone be sure to bring several gallons of water just in case we have any problems with cars overheating. Those cars that are equipped with AC can disconnect the harness from the receiver/dryer and by pushing the AC Norm button, can run the cooling fan manually.
The current forecast, and this is for the Atlanta area, is for 50% chance of rain with temps in the mid 60's. One tv station forecasts most of the rain will stay south of Atlanta, so maybe everyone should grab one of those cheap 50 cent disposable ponchos and bring some extra warm clothing.
I have put in a call to the organizers to see if we've been accepted. I haven't heard anything from them. As soon as I know, I'll contact each participant and post the information here, too.
-
The check we sent them for entry was cashed on 3/10 (last Thursday) so they should have accepted our entry.
-
I got confirmation this morning. We are group # 95. We will again be staged at the First Church of The Nazarene, 312 Telfair St, Dublin, GA 31021.
When exiting I-16 at Exit 51 which is US Hwy 441, go North. Just go straight on US 441 Business. If coming in from the north on US 441, take the bypass until it dead ends. Turn left on 441 North Business, which is Telfair Street.
-
Pat is having to pull his yellow car from the parade due to electrical or fuel pump problems so we are down to 5 cars. We could surely use someone to step in and fill the space.
-
May I suggest that we go to Longhorn Steakhouse after the parade? There are several reasons for this suggestion. They have a good selection of food. Not sure if this one has a buffet or not. The restaurant is also outside of the core part of the city and away from the parade area. At the end of the parade, we can take US 141 South, cross I-16, turn right on the first road which is Pinehill, then right again on the first road which is Travel Center Blvd.
There's also a Golden Corral that's just a short distance beyond the Applebee's where we dined last year. A little closer in and might be more crowded.
Any other suggestions?

We Have Extra Parade Decorations If Someone Could Drive The Club Car.
-
We couldn't possibly find enough decorations to cover the bad paint job on the club car.
I also have 6 sheets of static cling decorations, streamers and some derbies. The girls will get 2 of the derbies and I'll have 2 left over.
-
Everyone remember to charge and bring your FRS radios. Ron768 don't forget the club banner. Pat and Linda don't forget the box of club business cards.
Anything else anyone can think of?
-
Remembering the trouble Don and Darrel had last year when they arrived late and the Police wouldn't let them drive up to our staging area, I've plotted a back-street way around everything.
Go back to the National Guard Armory. Turn Left on Smith Street. It's a small neighborhood street.
Follow Smith Street to intersect South Church Street.
Turn left on South Church Street and follow South Church up to the First Church of The Nazarene.
-
The banner is in the car and I have copied the back street directions.
-
IT HAS BEGUN!

Great Pics! I'm back home with broken car. So, the next step begins,,, which motor to rebuild or swap into the car?

That's what i heard. Sorry to hear it. What happened?!

Ouch!

How about a modern ecotec? Lighter means better weight distribution. Hi MPG means less time refilling your 11 gallon tank. Plus, more power than any of the original engines. I don't see a down side other than cost and availability.
-
Cost is why I havent done anything to the original motor other than up-grades. I have noticed over the last 2 years that my motor was starting to show its age. This morning on the way over I apparently spun a main bearing. Will not know for sure til I take it apart. I am going to see about pulling the 2.8 from the original project car at Paul's ( The Driver) place next weekend. Once I get it home, it will be clean it up and pull the motor out of my car and install that one. The way my time goes, it may take me 3 weeks or so. Ron, I may need the prom flashed again.

My ignition module failed during the parade, and by the time I replaced it, the rest of the Fieros were somewhere ahead of me, and I rejoined the parade behind the "Y96 Hot Country Hits" van. Here's a video of part of my drive...
