I swapped out the shifter in my 88 with an 84 factory short shifter. It's very easy to do.

i already have one from fiero store, it looks like you take off the snap ring on the top pivot pin,but i can't quite see what to do with bottom pivot point. is there any kind of how to do it thread on how to do it, i checked pennocks but didn't find anything.              oldone in c'ville

I honestly can't remember, but I do remember that it was about easy as the pivot pin. It was something intuitive, that I figured out just by looking at it, so take a good look.

I think this is what holds the cable on:

That looks familiar to me, too.

I think there's a big C-clip that holds the shifter handle to the rest of the shifter frame.
Just pull off the clip in the picture that holds the cable, pull off the C-clip, and the whole handle should slide off, to the left side.

Assembly, as they say, is the reverse.

You may have to readjust your cable at the tranny, but probably not.
