Mark your calendars for September 18, 19, and 20.
It's time to start making your plans to attend the 14th Annual Run For The Hills. Every year, we try to give you a route with all the excitement you can stand. This year we will be returning to The Dragon and some of the surrounding area roadways.
We will be basing our run from Franklin, NC so we can get to The Dragon much quicker. Hotel planning is still in the works, but we're looking at several locations in downtown Franklin.
We'll keep you updated as new information is available. We will be having our annual raffle, door prizes, and 50/50 raffle. If anyone has any Fiero related items they would like to donate for the raffle, contact Kevin McFall, Georgia Fiero VP at thomasmtoys@yahoo.com or georgiafieroclub@gmail.com Attn: Kevin. Some of the items already on the list are embroidered Fiero jackets and hats and shirts and a set of limited edition RFTH 14 coffee mugs.
-
Response from vendors are really good so far. I will post items to look forward to as I receive them.
Here is the Jacket my company is donating:
-
And here are the caps, various styles and colors:

-
Another goodie for the raffle is here:
Paul McKibben has sent us a certificate good for a pair of sail panels:
Notchback coupe, SE, or '85 GT.
Thank you Paul!!
-
This is the lattest one so far:
Chris Nelson sent us a subwoofer insert plate from Top Line.
This one is carbon fiber wrapped.
Thanks Chris!!
-
I have some jacking instruction decals that I am giving and I've got to go through my parts bin to see what else I have.
-
OK!!
Matt at Fierostore.com sent me a care package for the raffle.
Check this out.
It includes:
Metal License Plate Frame
Stainless Steel Travel Mug
1985 GT Die Cast Model (red)
$25 Gift Certificate
Fiero cap
We Drive t-shirt

Thank you so much Matt.

Give me a list of providers, so I can list them as "sponsors" when I do a website page for this year's run.
-
I have a new thermostat and a new coolant recovery bottle, provided courtesy of John Jaworski.
-
Pat doesn,t know it yet but he is donating a pair of door skins and a pair of chrome tail pipes.
-
At the latest meeting, Charles received some items from John Jaworski for the raffle.
The Fiero book:
This is a book of contemporary road and comparison tests, new model introductions, specification and technical data, driving impressions, owner's survey, racing, history, buying second hand. Models covered include:- 2M4 SE, SE, Pfaff Turbo, GT, GT V6, GTU, Formula.
-
The second item John Jaworski donated is:84-88 RADIATOR OVERFLOW RESERVOIR
Replace your cracked, tarnished, or leaky radiator reservoir with a new aftermarket replacement that will fit directly in place of your original. The overflow reservoir mounts to the side of the radiator. This part is no longer available from GM. Cap sold separately.
-
The last Item donated by John is:
84-88 180 DEGREE THERMOSTAT
180 degree thermostat for all 4 cylinders and V-6s. The stock thermostat is 195 degrees.

Thanks to John Jaworski for these donations!
-
While looking through my stuff, I found a Rodney Dickman 210/200 degree fan switch. The stock switch is 235/225. This switch will help keep your Fiero cooler, but let you keep a stock 195 degree thermostat for optimum performance. I will donate this for the raffle.
Also, the RFTH 14 Info (http://gafiero.org/rfth14.shtml) page is getting started, and you can order your t-shirts there.

How do you feel about Fiero fans joining in on the fun without a Fiero?
My car may not be "Dragon Safe
-
We've had 4-door Lexus', 350Z's, Eclilpses, and even a Kia Sportage. Just as long as it isn't an Aerostar Van :o bring it on. You might even be able to ride shotgun with someone.
-
No minivans here. If I can't bring my Fiero, I'll bring my '00 Trans Am. At least it's a Pontiac. 8)
-
just curious what do you do for three days, just drive all day, does anyone bring their wives or is it mostly just the guys alone. do you stsy in the same motel every night? finally remembered how to sign on. oldone in c'ville
-
Fridays are usually for getting settled in to your room and meeting everybody for a bull session. Saturdays are for the run and sitting down to eat and talk about the run and how you almost lost it. Sundays are for sleeping late, saying your goodbyes, and driving home. As for wive's, that's up to you. My wife use to enjoy it but now she can't get off work. Bring her she might like it.
-
We are a family club and it's a family event. We have lady passengers and drivers of all ages. Last year the youngest driver was a 16 year old girl.
-
I was just checking out the Tail of the Dragon site for the weekend of the run.
There's going to be S2000, Porsche, and Cobra groups all having runs that weekend. Should be some nice cars out there with us. 8)
-
That means the THP will probably be out there, too. I'm sure they look at the website, too. Maybe the others will warn us of the THP presence. The bikers will usually tap the tops of their helmets to let you know.
I see you have dyslexia. You DID mean there will be some nice cars out there with THEM, didn't you? ;)
-
http://www.tailofthedragon.com has an update on enforcement and areas running radar. But for the most part if you stay in your lane and aren't crazy, you should be ok. THP has a bug up their bum for bikers, so they're probably concentrating on them. One thing THP has been very draconian about is crossing the center line. If your tire even touches the line, they'll pull you and give you a ticket for crossing the double-yellow.
Pay attention. Keep it in your own lane. Don't be stupid. Follow those suggestions, and I think everyone will be ok. :)

If you haven't ordered your event tshirt, yet, you have just 2 weeks left. There will be no shirts available at the event. You can place your order online on from the link at the top of the home page, or by mail. Mailing information is also on the that page.
Hotel information is also on the website. Just less than a month to make your reservations.
-
I'd like to have a shirt but I don't own a credit card.

You know, I'd REALLY like to go, but the more I think about it I can't afford any more tickets. And with the way cops have treated me recently (actually all my life - only the past few years I've been DENIED DUE PROCESS THREE TIMES!) I'd probably wind up in jail. I know I shouldn't let this keep me from going, but I haven't been able to work much recently due to back problems & another fine would really hurt.
Plus I don't have a hot-rod Fiero anyway.

-
I've driven a duke on these runs -- didn't have any trouble keeping up, either. You don't need a hot rod Fiero -- you just need one that can corner!
And I've never got a ticket on a run either.
You really don't have to drive fast to enjoy the run. Some of the folks that go are in the "tourist" group. They just enjoy the scenery.
-
Well maybe if the Indy was a manual it would be fun to take. But Like I said I can't seem to go much of anywhere these days without getting stopped & harrased. And if there are several clubs on the road that day, I'm sure the cops will be out in force. :(

I plan on being there for the run. I'll probably come in Friday night and leave Saturday night. I guess I better start driving the car to make sure it's ready to roll!
-
This past weekend I received from Dean a complete set of polyurethane & sway bar bushings donated by HT Motorsports,
Thanks Guys!!
-
hey tom this is dewey i was wondering if you've got anyone going with you , not riding just convoying or splitting a room, i like your idea of going friday night and coming back saturday night. if you are in for some company let me know, if not don't worry about it, its no big deal. thanks oldone in c'ville
-
Hey Dewey,
Tom here. Jerry (handle 85GT), offered to split his room with me at RFTH, so I am covered there, thanks. I am not planing to convoy up YET, but my plans are still in the air. I will probably leave Alpharetta around noontime Friday. I would be happy to offer my passenger seat to you, or anyone who doesn't mind no A/C (my compressor's out). I will be staying Friday and Saturday nights, coming back Sunday at a leisurely pace (but I do have to be at work at 10:00 PM Sunday).
I am starting to get that "can't wait to go!" feeling. Yeah !!!!!!!!

Dewey,
(Assuming I'm the Tom you're aiming at)I have no specific plans just yet. I get off of work at 3:45pm (at the earliest) and I can be ready to roll at that time. Are you planning on driving or riding with me? I'm OK either way, but I wouldn't want to be a passenger unless I was on a Dramamine drip with several patches too. I'd be willing to split the cost on a room too if that's what you had in mind. Convoying would be fine as you never know if you'll have any issues. My email is...carnut122@aol.com. Drop me a line with whatever you want to do.

A 1/2 Price Coupon on a pair of side scoopes.

-
Just one correction -- neither drain plug pictured will fit the 88 4-cylinder. It has an in-pan oil filter, and a drain plug big enough for the filter.
-
On Julio's 88 4 cylinder it has both the drain plug and the large in-pan oil filter drain.
-
That would be nice -- mine only has the big plug. Changing oil without making a mess is a challenge.

TAIL TAIL TAIL TAIL TAIL
ALLRIGHT !!!!!! LET'S GET FIRED UP HERE !!!!!!! 1 W E E K TO GO !!!! TAIL HERE WE COME !! WOO HOO !!!!!! I THINK WE SHOULD PRINT A TEE SHIRT FOR AFTER THE RUN THAT SAYS "I GOT SOME TAIL AT DEALS GAP" (IS THIS TOO RISQUE FOR THE MESSAGE BOARD ?) OOPS....
RAT PEE 86
You guys are strangely ??? quiet about this event, I thought you'd be like all excited and junk and stuff....(watched TOO many episodes of Futurama, sorry !)
-
Rat Pee, you need to get some rest. The Tail has 318 curves in 11 miles, that about 28.9 curves per mile. But your right there nothing wrong with a little tail, but a lot of tail will wear you out.
-
I THINK WE SHOULD PRINT A TEE SHIRT FOR AFTER THE RUN THAT SAYS "I GOT SOME TAIL AT DEALS GAP"
Make your own. See how here (http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/077324.html) and here (http://www.corporatecasuals.com/freeshirt/default.aspx).
-
You need to rest up and take all of the little pills you can get hold of, because there's lots and lots of foreplay before you get to the tail, then after the tail you can keep on going and going and going.
-

I'm not coming, I gots to work.
Not coming to the run? If you are, can you bring that "broken" side mirror?
I should roll in around 8:00 pm Friday. See you there!
-
I'll send it with my uncle Darrell and Janice. They'll be driving an 86 GT red with faded paint. Charlie knows them.
-
I wish I could have joined everyone but I've got way to much work to do. If I can get away tomorrow I'll drive to Robbinsville and meet everybody for lunch, if not I'll see you when you get back.
-
Dang it. Another year I missed the run. I will not miss It next year.
Hope every one had a good time. Can't wait to see some good pics
-
Twenty two cars made the complete run. Ken Wheeler of Wheeler Performance Cycles in Robbinsville joined us at Fontana Dam and drove part way with us. Ronnie and Carolyn rejoined us in their Miata, and we had a Trans Am, a Firebird Formula, and a Lotus Elise mixed into the pack.
Most of us drove up to Franklin on Friday, traveling in the rain. It was still raining Friday night when we went to bed. Saturday morning the roads were still a little wet in spots, but drying out. We even found sun along the way. Then we ran through a little shower as we finished up the last 25 miles, and then it was clear sailing all the way back.
Then the rain set in again Saturday night. Seven of us drove back to Atlanta together on Sunday, sometimes in rain that was so heavy we couldn't see from the front car to the rear car, but we made it back safely.
-

Sounds like all was well on RFTH 14. Who bought the Lotus? =D
-
That was CowsPatoot's friend, Savet.

I appreciate you guys letting me tag along. I learned a lot and had a great time, and learned a lot driving with you guys. I've got some pictures and some very shaky video from the first run down the dragon that I'll be uploading to flickr and youtube.
