Official Event Tshirt Design.
It's coming up soon. We will be starting and returning to Franklin, North Carolina. Gathering at our hotel on Friday, September 14 to check over our cars and get everything topped off for the run on Saturday Morning, September 15. Hotel accommodations aren't finalized, yet but the information will be posted here as soon as they are.
We will be traveling the High Roads (more than 5000 ft. elevation) and the back roads of North Carolina and Tennessee. Some of the best driving roads in this part of the country.
We have scheduled a lunch stop along the way, as well as fuel and restroom stops. At the end of the day, back in Franklin, we have scheduled a nice sit-down dinner for the group. Each person will be responsible for their own meal.
There is no entry fee and all sports cars are welcome or if your minivan handles like a sports car, bring the family along. We will be accepting voluntary donations of raffle items and also donations to our 2018 charity, The American Cancer Society.
Event Tshirts are available in the Club merchandise section at the left side of this page. The shirts are preshrunk 100% cotton and are available in sizes from Adult Small thru Adult 3 XLarge. The printing is done with a dye, so you can't feel the print and it doesn't have that big sweaty spot like some of the rubber inks have.
Visit here often to keep up with updated details.
-
Nice design!
How do you know which shirt you are getting, from the merchandise section?
-
Click on the Select Your Size drop-down menu.
-
It doesn't state if it's for the RFTH, or for the club shirts.
-
Refresh your browser.
-
My bad. I didn't look in the middle. I had refreshed, changed browsers, and changed computers. If it'd been a snake...
-
Have a question. I it "Legal" to get a shirt if you dont make the run????? Just asking
-
Yes you Can Buy A Shirt Even If You Do Not Go On The Run.
How Many Do You Want ?
-
We don't even care if someone doesn't own a Fiero. Sales help us do some of our charity work.
-
Works for me. Hopefully my car will be ready for the run. Hate to wear something that I did not participate in. But I see your point. Need to check with the Boss to see if she wants one,
-
We're hoping to get it ready so you can drive with us on the scouting run at the end of this month.
-
Ha. If only. Very tempting.
-
Tempting? In what way??????

RUN FOR THE HILLS HOTEL INFORMATION
Our Hotel for Run For The Hill #23 is the MicroTel Inn, 81 Allman Road, Franklin, NC.
Rates for single or double queen rooms is $90.20 per night or $180.40 for the two nights we will be there.
There is no cutoff date for reservations. Because we do not know how many will attend, we did not block out rooms. A credit card is needed for that, and any untaken rooms must be paid for by Georgia Fieros. If you wait until the last minute to try to make reservations, there may not be rooms available. Other hotels in the area are Hampton Inn and Comfort Inn, but their rates are a bit higher, especially during that time of the year.
To get the group rates, call 1-828-349-9000
Tell them you are with the Georgia Fiero Club group.
-
Anyone interested in sharing a room with me? 50/50?
-
I'm out: http://artsintheheartofaugusta.com/ (http://artsintheheartofaugusta.com/)
My daughter will be performing at Arts in the Heart of Augusta that weekend.
I love my Fiero, but I love my kids more.
-
Those hills will be there next Year. Kids grow and change so fast you dare not miss it.
-
My daughter just sent me a photo of the new Tennessee State Police cruisers that are going into use on The Tail of The Dragon. They are of the standard black, white and gold colors, applied to a Supercharged 3-wheel Slingshot. So what we may think to be just another person out to attack The Dragon, they will also be there to attack your wallet.
-
Police aren't known for being good drivers. On the face of things, the slingshot is better suited to driving curvy roads than a motorcycle or a sedan; however, it handles differently from either, and officers tasked with driving slingshots should be required to take and pass performance driving classes specific to the slingshot, so as not to be a danger to the populace.
The slingshot gives a false sense of security, but can be a handful. It's fun to drive, but has odd handling characteristics. It's more suited for a leisurely drive than for performance.
I thought the police on 129 only mess with people who cross the center line.
-
They also get speeders. Scott and I encountered one in a SUV, parked in a curve at the end of a little bit of a straight. He was running hand-held radar. Wasn't a laser. By the appearance of the big round white head on it, it was X-K band stuff. We had just caught up with a couple of saddlebaggers and were only slightly over the 30 mph speed limit.
-
I'm just throwing this out there, but running over the limit could take all the fun out of the event for someone. I enjoy pushing the limit as much as the next person, but as a group, for a club event.....I wouldn't want to encourage anyone to break the law, or such behavior to result in a ticket or worse.
I may run a bit fast by myself, but when I have a group with me, I try to run at the speed limit.
But I won't be there, so my opinion isn't worth much.
-
From our official route sheet:
THIS IS NOT A RACE. Each person should drive at their own comfort level. You don’t have to keep up with anyone. If you feel you’re being pressed by the vehicle behind, pull to the side when you have the first opportunity and let faster traffic pass.
-
Ok. Thanks for clarifying.
-
I have some tshirt orders that I need to send to the printer. Anyone else want to place their order so I can send them all at one time?
-
Who in the Georgia Fiero Club is planning to attend?
-
I am. ;D
-
I'll start this by hypocritically stating that I cannot attend. That having been stated up front, this is an event we host; we need to have a good showing of club members.
-
I shall be there, +1
-
Planning on it.
-
I was looking in Events on PFF, and didn't see RFTH listed there, although I know it's in the General Fiero Chat section. True, Events doesn't get as much traffic, but it does get traffic, and topics stay at the top longer.
-
Brenda and I have our room. See ya there!
-
Shaping up!
-
I checked to see how many rooms had been reserved and due to the way we have to make our reservations, without rooms blocked, she couldn't tell me.

Formula Owner from the Huntsville area is attending and 2 other out-of-staters have told me they're coming. Early on, one of the Florida clubs said they would try to put a group together, too.
Oh, and Dave will be there and hopefully, Dewey. Budgetman72 is close enough if he gets his clutch problem worked out.
-
Great! The more, the merrier!
-
I don't see this on the calendar. Am I missing something?
-
The calendar has seldom been used for events.
Greg had told me that he and Sharon will be here this year. That's Cowspatoot and Fierfly.
-
It seemed like free marketing. Being that this is our major event, I thought we'd want all the publicity we could get.
-
Charlie...can you tell us approximately what time we will get to the dragon, and which side we will be coming at it from? We have a couple Fiero guys from Ohio that will be in the area...they can't join us for the full run, but want to run the Dragon with us.
And yes...Sharon and I will be there. We actually have no finalized plans of when or how, yet...but we WILL be there. Perhaps we should start making plans.
-
If the Ohio group is coming in on Saturday morning, the best point to connect would be at 128 Banks Street in Tellico Plains, Tn. The TelliCafe is our lunch stop, sometime after 12 Noon.
Assuming they're coming off I-75, there are two ways to get there. The easy cruising way and shorter path is to exit in Sweetwater, Tn. and take Hwy 68 South into Tellico Plains. The other is a little longer path. They would need to continue further south on I-75 to Athens, Tn. Exit and take Hwy 30 South through Athens, then turn left on Hwy 39 through Englewood and continue to Tellico Plains. A bit more exciting and would give them a little warmup. They should refuel in Tellico Plains. It's not a fuel stop for us, but it may be needed for them. If they refuel right after they get off I-75 in Athens at the station on the right near Arby's, it's usually the cheapest, and then they'll have plenty of fuel for our scheduled stop.
We will be entering The Dragon from the North end.
-
Who's soliciting the raffle items? What do we have so far?
-
It's official...Sharon and I have a room reserved. You are stuck with us, now.
-
Plllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeease, everyone take pictures. I need pictures.
-
Do we know yet about DeShoe and oldone? I'm not sure of the status of their respective Fieros.
-
I won`t be going I just can`t drive long distances any more. I would like to sell my cars if possible as I might be moving in the future.
-
I'm sorry to read that.
-
Just got the car back from the shop. Still trying to get a warm fuzzy feeling that it wont die on me. Need some more driving time and need to fix some minor stuff on it. Maybe next year. Sorry I was looking forward to making the run this year.
-
Bring it on, Bob. We'll have enough Fiero mechanics along that we can fix it on the roadside. If that fails, you can finish the ride with me or someone else, and I'll give your car a free tow back home on Sunday.
-
Certainly, there could be no better shakedown run.
-
Unfortunately, circumstances have changed and we wont be able to join yall this year. Life has happened. If a dinner restaurant and time has been set we might be able to make that.
-
Sorry to hear that, but at least you got to do it twice, already, though without all the fervor of the actual run.
-
If you haven't ordered your Tshirts, you need to get your order placed so that I can have them printed in time. Right now, I can probably have anything that's ordered before Monday, printed and delivered at the meeting on the 8th. Anything ordered later in the week will be delivered at The Run.
This year, the Tshirt sales will be our only method of fund raising. Support The Georgia Fiero Club by ordering a RFTH shirt or a Member shirt.
-
If you haven't ordered your Tshirts, you need to get your order placed so that I can have them printed in time. ...
Charlie... Ordered mine. Nowhere in the order process did I see the opportunity to leave a message.
Please see your email.
-
Charlie, Did you receive my email?
-
What is the last day to order an RFTH shirt, and still get the shirt in time for the run?
-
I have asked that all shirts be available for me to pick up no later than Thursday, September 13, so a week from today. So, I would guess maybe Tuesday the 11th for me to place the order.
-
Charlie, Did you receive my email?
Heh... i guess not.
-
Yes, I did get one from you.
-
Current speculations on the path of Tropical Storm/Hurricane Florence puts its path possibly into the coast of South or North Carolina on Thursday then moving northward along the coast. We don't believe this should be of concern for us at Run For The Hills. Our event is entirely in the westernmost part of North Carolina and into Tennessee.
Should we determine that the weather isn't suitable to enjoy the scheduled route, we have an alternate route that is further west, moving farther west into Tennessee and North Georgia.
Don't let the weather cancel your plans. This is a rain or shine event.
-
How/would that affect hotel arrangements?
-
It won't. We'll still base at the MicroTel Inn in Franklin, NC
-
Yes, I did get one from you.
Cool. Thank you sir.
-
8:30am drivers meeting Saturday morning? Microtel Inn parking lot?
-
If the crowd is too big we can move to the Fun Factory back lot on All man Drive.
-
Just made reservations for my son and I, we’ll see y’all in Franklin! From the looks of the hurricane tracking hopefully it will only be a little windy for us!
-
That's great!

With the hurricane coming in, Georgia Power will, undoubtedly, be sending storm crews to assist.
I could conceivably be caught up in the support of those folks. (If nothing else, the locals will be short-handed. Techs will be spread really thin.)
-
There is some space in the newsletter for RFTH pictures and reflections.
-
I'm out. Y'all have fun!
Stay safe.
-
I hope your event goes well. It sounds like great fun.
-
I am also hoping for a great drive for all of you. have fun.

National Weather reports the Saturday forecast for the area of Tail of The Dragon is Partly Cloudy with a high of 82*. Current conditions at 9AM is Sunny and 61*. No rain forecast until Sunday.
-
I'll be leaving for Franklin as soon as the mail comes. Don't want to leave too much in the box.
-
I'm packed and just finishing off the last cup of coffee in the coffee pot. Will be heading out about Noon and expect to be there around 1:30.
The forecast is only 20% chance of rain on Sunday.
-
Have a good trip. Hope the weather is dry all weekend
-
Have fun!
-
Anyone think whiteandnerdy will show up?
-
His cousin says he won't be here.
-
Sharon and I made it back to Wilkesboro. Florence is pretty calm at this point...lots of rain and a few minor wind gusts.
-
Glad you're both home safely.
Did you take video of your run, this year?
-
Terry and I made it back to Alabama. I had a slight scare this morning. My clutch didn't want to disengage. When I checked my clutch master, it was empty. I KNOW I checked it before the trip. I didn't check it after we left, but I KNOW it was fine before we left. I topped it off, and it started working fine. I'm guessing that the MC got a bit of air in it, but not the lines. When I topped it off, the MC got filled. I'm also guessing that the fluid had too much moisture in it, and being exposed to the heat from the engine bay all day caused it to evaporate. A clutch and brake fluid flush will be on my next RFTH prep list.
Anybody know where all we can find photos of us? I found us on 129photos and killboy, but not on 129slayer. Are there any others?
Billy
-
Yeah, about what time did you all go through?
-
Terry found them. We went through around 3:00. But on 129slayer, the timestamp shows us at 2:03. On US129photos, we first show up at 3:00. On killboy, we first show up at 3:05.
-
129 Photos should also have us on the Cherohala.
Billy, you probably need to completely bleed your system. I'd suggest looking at the pushrod area of the master cylinder and the slave cylinder. You probably have a leak for that much fluid to disappear. The master cylinder can be a little difficult to detect because the fluid can run down behind the carpet. If you don't know how to gravity bleed the system, give me a call. It will take about 3 reservoirs full of fluid to fully flush and fill the system.
-
Glad everyone had a great time and got home safely. It was nice to spend some time with y'all even tho we weren't on the run.
-
Ixm curious what happened with the charity, or was there no revenue, so nothing for the charity? Or, will that be discussed in the October meeting?
-
The American Cancer Society provided t-shirts and I believe anyone making at least a $20 donation received a shirt. There were donations made, but I didn't yet get a response from Sarge as to how much.
There were still some shirts and unless Sarge has returned them, I suppose one could still make a donation if they wanted.
