Title: Trunk latch!
Post by: GTRS Fiero on August 07, 2018, 08:22:04 pm
I did some work on the back of my Fiero, then the deck lid wouldn't close.  It seemed to be catching on the latch, or at least in the middle.  I cojldnxt make any progress with the release, so, I moved the latch to the left with my finger.  Now, I can't unlatch it with the release, nor can I close the deck lid.

What next?

If your key operates the latch, turn the key to the right and use a screwdriver to flip the latch open.  Or, to operate it with the release button, clamp a jumper cable to the latch area and the other end of the cable to a good ground, like the latch loop on the body and hit the remote release button.

Thanks.  Got it with the key.  I feel like a moron.  The key occurred to me after posting.

Tried adjusting the power latch, the catch, etc.  It ended up being the trunk seal that was causing the issue.

It ended up being the trunk seal that was causing the issue.

There is(was) a 7mm hex screw on my trunk lock that used to snag the edge of the seal. I removed it, and replaced it with a round head phillips screw. No more snags.

I removed the enitre assembly, so eliminated that.  It was a pain to get everything adjusted just right.

The screw must be a common problem.  My 87 has the same problem.
