Title: Power Door Lock Motor
Post by: Roger on November 09, 2018, 10:35:04 pm
Anyone have an extra Power Door Lock Motor, working or not, please bring it to the meeting tomorrow. I'll have cash. Thanks

Hmmm.  I have a box of them.  I should've brought one last week.

Both my cars have aftermarket door lock motors. They're cheap (5-10 bucks on Ebay), and they work great. However, neither car came with power door locks, so I wouldn't know how to replace a stock motor with an aftermarket one.

Are the motors side-specific like the power window motors?

BTW, they're called lock actuators.  There doesn't seem to be anything special about them, or the power window motors, either.

A lock actuator will work on either side.  No difference.  On the other hand, I had no idea that the power window motors were side-specific.  I just installed them.

If it wasn't so cold, I'd go look, but that box is buried at the back of the shed, and would take hours to get to.

I was only assuming the window motors were side-specific, having to replace the regulator assemblies on each of the doors of Mel's Grand Prix, at least once a year.  All the regulators came with the motor, so I pulled the motors from the broken regulators.  Got a box full of them.  At least those for the front window will work on the rear window of the same side.  I kept them, hoping that they might be the same as Fiero window motors.  No chance.
