The Carlisle Show will be a 4 day event this year in celebration of it's 25th year. The longest running Fiero Car Show in history.
The dates are June 20-23. I imagine the 23rd will be a short day, maybe for awards like the All Pontiacs At Pigeon Forge used to do.
Anyway, I've been considering going up on Friday the 21st and coming back on Sunday the 23rd. Is anyone interested in going along to help represent the Georgia Fiero Club? I've been in communication with the organizers and there is interest in some of the MAFOA group joining us for RFTH. This could be a badly needed infusion of new participants for us. You don't have to enter the car show to be a part of it, so don't worry about the paint job.
I'd like to have someone to share a room with me and my granddaughter and for company at the event.
Anyone have any interest in going?

Anyone considering going?
Quality Inn-North, 1825 Harrisburg Pike, Carlisle, PA, 17015, Phone: (717) 245-2242. $123/night.
EDIT: Jennifer Goss (FieroChic88) has arranged the group rate of $123 per night. This is for the MAFOA or NEFA group rate. That's Mid Atlantic Fiero Owners Assoc. or New England Fiero Assoc. The desk pretended to no nothing of these groups and tried to charge me at a higher rate. I insisted that a group rate of $123 had been agreed upon so he relented and gave me that rate.
So, if you intend to go, insist on the group rate.

My 8th wedding anniversary is the 22nd and considering I would like to make it to my 9th anniversary I'm out. I was strongly considering it before I learned the dates.
Happy Wife...Happy Life
-
Mike, take her to the Poconos..... with a little side trip ;)......... you should know how to play the game by now 8)
-
Very nice country up in the mountains, there.
-
I wouldn't dream of asking my wife to drive all the way to Carlisle in a Fiero! She is the person that has picked me up off the side of the road too many times. She is convinced they aren't reliable cars and I tend to agree with her.
She refuses to ride in the Aerodon car... she was behind me when I drove it home from the shop and it wanted to switch ends while going straight. This after 1 of the most extensive alignment and suspension checks I've ever done. I see a Solstice in my near future.
I'll start a thread about the issues with the Aerodon car.
-
I've been to the last three Fiero anniversaries in Fieros, to Texas and back in Fieros, to Florida and back (when my daughter lived there, and for other reasons) in Fieros. I've probably racked up more miles in Fieros than in any other brand of car. They always got me there and back. And they are the most comfortable highway cars I have driven in.
-
How are your kindeys????? ;D
-
I have found my Fiero to be reliable, if taken care of. Seating is comfy, and I have driven 11 hours in a day in my Fiero.
Something to note, is that the ride in an '88 GT is vastly better than the ride in prior year Fieros. You may not notice the difference for the first few hours, but after 8 or 9 hours, you certainly will notice. Of course, this is with good tires, suspension, etc on both Fieros.

It is too bad that you both weren't able to make the Ladies' Day meeting. Fieros are about people. Many car clubs are about cars, some are about the owners; but Fieros are about people. I have met some of the best people at Fiero-related activities.
I am interested to read about the Aerodon car. Maybe it needs a shakedown drive by one of the Fiero people.

Just spoke with OldOne. His son-in-law is at Carlisle this week for a car show. He also owns several GM show cars, so Dewey is going to see if his son-in-law will consider bringing one of his GM cars to the show. Might get to see Old Dewey there.
-
A bonus! Glad OldOne is doing OK.

This surprises me. I've followed that car during several RFTH excursions. The only time it ever wanted to swap ends was in the rain, when it was "being pushed hard". I attributed that (correctly or not) to the addition of the rear sway bar. (But that's a topic for a whole 'nother discussion.)
The one time I drove it, it rode like a Conestoga wagon, but that is a whole different issue. I'm thinking the front bump stops need to be shortened. Ron Robinson has done it. It's do-able, but not fun.
-
There is video of the Aerodon Fiero making a spirited run for at least one RFTH.
I was thinking that there is either...actually, I'm saving that for the other thread.

If you are considering going to Carlisle, it's best to register so you can park with the other Fieros, else you may have a long walk. The Carlisle Fairgrounds is huge.
The registration fee is $41, but even if you're registered, I've heard they still charge a gate charge. You don't have to show your car to park with the others. It's just a convenience.
Best entry is at Gate 3 and the Fieros will be right there.

Are you going to check out kgoodyear's GT tail lights?
-
Most definitely. I've a set on order so I want to see what I'm going to get.
-
Be forewarned. Kgoodyear is a...character. Seriously, no one could script him.
-
Fierofool, did you make the trip OK? I meant to check in with you. Somehow, I thought it was next week.
I never heard if your '87 was completed.
-
He delivered the car last night @ 10:30. I arrived in Carlisle at 6:30 this afternoon.
-
Glad you made it OK. Take pictures!
-
I'm glad you were able to make it. (What time did you leave?) Wish I could have been there, but too much going on, here.
I hope you like the car. John and Peter both burned the candle at both ends, getting it done.
-
Tell Jen "Hi" for me. Remind her that I only judge indoor cars.
-
From Fierofool:

-
That must be one heck of a camera to take a picture of the car WHILE sitting on that car.
Nice decal.
-
Nice paint job!
-
I'd like Fierofool's comments on the paint job.
-
It has to go back to the paint shop for some issues.
Raydar, thanks for coming to the rescue on the molding clips. As soon as I get a statement from John on the shortages, I'll give The Fiero Store a call. I'll replenish what you provided.
I have about 20 pictures and I'll give a little summary of the weekend---Tomorrow. I will say that The Georgia Fiero Club is well known and lots of people said they surf our forum even though they're not registered.
Jennifer gave a count of the show and there were 65 Fieros. Long distance driver was over 1700 miles. New Mexico.

Whatever. Whenever. I'm not in a hurry, Charlie.
I'm happy that you were able to attend. I wish that I could have, as well. (Tammy even said, "Go ahead and go!") But there is just too much going on, here, for me to drop everything and go. But I really want to make this, at some point.
I hope you like the paint. John said that there were some issues that needed fixed, but the clear needed to harden some, first.
I'm happy that we are well... regarded(?) - or at least well known. I know that many people work hard to make us (and the website) a success.
-
Fierofool, thanks for going and literally carrying the club banner.
-

Not too early to plan for next year.

The Carlisle was probably a once in a lifetime event for me. Other commitments have kept me from attending in the past and now personal issues may limit future participation, but I will always remember this event. An amazing turnout. There wasn't a lot of room left for more Fieros.
I've been around Pennocks since 2002 and even though I 'know' many of of the people, it was great to meet some of them face to face. Strangely, I had never developed an image of what anyone might look like.
Got to meet Steve308 and also Peter (forgot the username). They helped to get the decal installed on the back window On the way back home I spotted a lady passenger in an Audi snapping a picture of the decal and somewhere down in lower Virginia, I was introduced to a Corvette driver's stinky finger as he pulled up beside me. Missed Spadesluck but now would recognize him due to his awards and raffle winnings. Over 1700 miles one way in a Fiero to make the show. Missed David Hambleton and Dennis LaGrua, too. Met the Toronto guy (maybe that was David) that gave us the currency exchange rate lesson and several others whom I can't remember. Reacquainted with Chuck 'N Linda from Michigan. There were several others who came by to introduce themselves, but my mind was so boggled I don't remember the names, only their faces.
Had a long sit down chat with Keith and got to share some cheese with George.
Last, but most important, FieroChick88, Jennifer Goss. What a lady. I know she had help in putting this thing together, but she has to have superhuman organizational skills. Thank you, Jenn and MAFOA for making this event one that I and likely everyone there will long be remembered.
-
The weather for the event was absolutely perfect. The forecast was for 80 degrees. But it was very comfortable due to a good strong breeze blowing all day. Only a few times did the wind stop. It wasn't strong enough to cause any problems, but just enough to make it very comfortable while sitting in the sun.

Looks great. Thank you for sharing the pictures.

Nice pics of one of Ray's Fieros.
-

I see Fierofoolxs Fiero, and maybe someone stepped in dog poop.
-
Thanks for sharing.

Does look like he's going through the motions of the aftermath, doesn't it.
I forgot to say that my plan was to drive through that line of Corvettes that was staged way up in that picture to see what kind of reaction they would have to the decal. When I entered the gate to the left of them, I was diverted down to the street I'm on. So I developed an alternate plan during the day. That was that when I left, I would go to the right then up and drive down through the midst of them.
Wasn't intended to happen. They had put up a sign at the ends of their street indicating it was for Pedestrian Traffic Only. But as I was going back to the hotel, I managed to get one car ahead of one but didn't notice any adverse reaction from him.
I actually had someone come to me and ask if it was ok for them to make one for their car. There should also be an upcoming interview in Fiero Pride, for those of you who receive it.
-
You represented the club well, as usual.
-
Thanks for sharing your pics, and your impressions. Looks like it was a huge amount of fun.
Do you know who owns the white-over-yellow IMSA-bodied car?
I know someone who owns one, but I thought it was in the middle of a 3800 swap. (Of course, there could easily be several of them, painted that way.)
-
I thought I had a picture showing the engine, but I believe it had a 3800SC in it. I remember walking around it and noting that the snorkel intake wasn't functional with the engine that was in it. Is the one you know of from Pennsylvania?
-
It's not me. :0)
Thanks for sharing pics FF. Really glad you got to go and hope that you do get a chance to return as you obviously enjoyed it.
Cheers
The real PK
-
Thanks PK. I did enjoy it. It was a 694 mile drive and took just under 12 hours to get there. Only stopping for fuel, bathroom and snack to go. All done at the same time. I managed to make it back in just over 10 hours even though I had more traffic and some rain on the return trip.
At my fuel stop in North Carolina and another in lower Virginia, I wasted a lot of time trying to find a fuel station that would accept a credit card at the pump. They had card readers but didn't work. You had to go inside and tell them to the penny how much fuel you wanted. I tried a Marathon, Citgo and Shell in NC before driving about 7 miles off my route to a QT station that I knew wouldn't have that policy. Then another Citgo in Virginia because the Love's station across the street was jam-packed. Same there. Had to tell them exactly how much fuel you wanted.
I don't know if I'll be able to make the trip again. My Mr. Mike's seats aren't that well padded, and neither am I. And I was struggling even before I left. That's why I didn't get more pictures. There were some cars that just begged to be photographed, but to get to all of them was just beyond my endurance.

The car belongs to Rick Manning. I found a Carlisle post/picture on his FB thread. It's the same car I thought it was. I didn't realize it was up and running.
His comment was that it was "coming home" to Texas.
Here's a rather long build thread.

The car belongs to Rick (pontiackid on PFF) but Jason C. just did the 3800 swap and brought it to the show. It originated in PA with an SD4 but was sold to Rick without the motor when Rick still lived in PA. He is now in TX and the car is headed there next.
-
I was just over two hours away in Wilkes-Barre during the show.
Couldn't get down there. Sad.
BTW, Love the decal!
-
Very interesting timing, you being there.
-
Just the way family things happen.
-
Yeah....usually not in my favor.
-
I'm not saying the C8 is slow,
but Fieros did beat them by 36 years.
