Ron, when you installed the F23, did you swap the case halves around, in order to get the 3.6x(?) FDR? Or did you keep the 3.9x FDR?
I'm about to acquire a 3.4 DOHC and an F23. I'm trying to decide whether to go with the 3.9x FDR, or go to the trouble to swap case halves around.

Should probably bump this, in case Ron checks in.

Thanks. I haven't seem him in months, though.
-
He logged on about a month ago, so hopefully he's still checking.

Howdy!
I have the 60* bellhousing f23 from the cavalier. The cobalt one has the ecotech housing, so I lucked out and didn’t have to change anything other than the shifting rod clocking, which isn’t necessary anymore because there’s way better kits out than when I did it.

Awesome! Thanks for the reply.
So how are your RPMs at highway speeds? Do you blow through 1st gear, like, immediately? :D
Good to see you. Been a long time.

The gearing is almost perfect, compared to the Muncie 4 it replaced. With 14" rims, I kept smoking 1, 2, 3, and my speedo was off. Installed 17" wheels, and speedo is dead-on and no more unintended burnouts. The 3rd gear breaking loose was unnerving. I swapped ends a couple times. Of course, that was with my 3.4+ bored, valved, opened up and tuned. I can't remember my hwy rpm. I want to say 1700 @ 70? Ill get it out this weekend and reply with the speeds.

You accidentally spun the rear wheels of your Fiero in 1, 2, and 3? How much torque do you have?
-
Enough to spin the tires in three gears ;D

I'm just wondering how a 3.4 with only 200 HP managed that.
-
I can verify that 200 hp in a Grand Prix can burn rubber all the way into 2nd gear with an automatic.
-
I was just wondering about accidental in third.

Thanks, Ron. I appreciate the info.
I have asked this same question in several places. Out of all the responses, only one person suggested that I should "piece-meal" one together, in order to get the taller gears. And that particular person can do swaps in his sleep, so a "Franken-trans" (jeez... that really sounds odd) is no big deal for him to cobble together.
Think I'll bolt it in, as is. The DOHC is supposed to be good to 7200, so that should give me some room to play.
