Title: Procedure to replace oil filter on an 88 Duke

How hard / difficult is it to replace the oil filter on an 88 Duke?

Easy, according to the video.  Just look up from below.  Don't cross-thread it when installing the new one.

I only did it once on the Lil Duke Coupe but as I recall, there's a drain plug to drain the oil, then the whole plate has to be removed to extract the cartridge.  Even with the oil drained it was still messy due to residual oil. 

Is the car still doing OK with the o2 sensor unplugged?

Some 88 dukes (i.e., mine) do not have a separate drain plug from the 4" filter access plug. When you remove that, the oil comes gushing out. Have a large pan underneath, and plenty of paper towels around. You may need to grip the old filter with some vice grip pliers at the little tab on the bottom to pull it out. Put some grease on the o-ring of the new one to make it slide in easily.

Ours does NOT have a drain plug.Somewhere I read that you can add one, but I am not going down that road. I've also got the Lisle 5300, just in case.  ;D
Is the car still doing OK with the o2 sensor unplugged?
Still running like a champ, no idle hunting, good gas mileage, good acceleration, no sting or smell. Just a bad OPS (new one on the way).

BTW: I'll be doing this on a lift, with a big oil-catching tub underneath, so hopefully, it won't get too messy. ;D

Keep the catch pan as close as possible and just loosen the screws enough to break the seal and let it drain.

BTW, my 88 duke gives nearly 80 pounds of oil pressure cold, and about 60 hot, since the rebuild. I don't remember what it was before the rebuild. I've never checked it with a mechanical gauge, but I've had two different senders, since the original one started leaking out the electrical conector, and I replaced it. Both senders read the same.

Oil & filter changed, OPS replaced. Got it done without a big mess.However, idiot light for the oil pressure no longer working. Fuse? Haven't checked the fuses yet.

Also saw that the oil pan has a leak. From looking at it, replacement of the oil pan on an 88 Duke seems to be a major hassle. It's a minor leak, so I'll wait with that.

The idiot light functionality is part of the gauge.  So, no light with engine off, key in Run position?

Have you checked the bulb?

Bulb was good, issue was/is the circuitry behind the IP cluster.

I forget that your oil gauge is not like the V6 gauge.
