Our October Club Meeting and Annual Cookout will be on October 12 and will be held at the RH Burel Pavillion in Downtown Auburn, Ga. GPS address is 1369 4th Avenue, Auburn, Ga. 30011.
This picnic is for everyone, especially family. You don't have to be a dues paid member to attend. Each person or family is asked to bring a dish. The club usually buys the meats and buns but members bring all the side dishes.
If you are a casual browser of our website and canpt post because you're not registered and would like to join us, email us at GeorgiaFieroClub@Gmail.Com You are certainly welcome.
Our official start time is 12 Noon and we have the pavilion until 5 PM. On the same day, the city holds a yard sale on 4th Avenue. This usually covers 2 full blocks and 4th Avenue is closed to traffic. Our pavilion is not a part of the yard sale area and there is free access with our vehicles.
Below are a few pictures of the area.
From Burel Park in front of City Hall. The pavilion can be seen in the distance, across a main road that separates it from the yard sale.

Looking through Burel Park from the area of the pavilion. The Police Department is about halfway down the block.

Looking at the Whistlestop Shops from the pavilion grounds. The shops are a mixture of small shops with foods, hand made jewelry and crafts, clothing, photography, and many other items. There are 11 shops and each provides a different service or product. There is also a restroom in that area.

On the opposite corner of the block is a fully fenced children's park and playground.

Each person is asked to bring a dish and serving utensils for that dish if required.
-
Thanks for setting this up.
The question now is, who plans to attend?
Of course, this is 3 months away, but we should start a list of who is bringing what.
-
This one may as well be added to the calendar also.
-
I just noticed that this is not on the calendar.
-
We will need a gas grill for cooking. At one time there were two charcoal grills at the pavilion but they have been removed. If anyone has a grill we can use, I'll gladly pick it up within a week before the picnic, and I will return it afterward.
-
We can use mine
-
I could pick it up a week earlier, that way you could drive your Fiero, unless you're also bringing the girls.
-
Probably just myself and Leigh-Ann
-
To all members and non-members, this annual picnic is a family affair. Even if you're just an occasional browser of our website, you're welcome to come. Just bring a side dish of some kind.
Please don't make this a guys-only event. Bring the ladies along and the children, too. There are other things for your interest if you get bored with car talk. Community flea market across the street, curio shops across the street and a children's playground on the other corner of the block.
We have a nice grassy area around the pavilion to display our cars for the hundreds of people that will be within view of us. It's good exposure for the club.
-
So that we have enough hamburger and hot dogs, I will need to know how many will be attending the cookout. I don't want to buy too much meat nor do I want to come up short.
If you would, please post here with the number of people in your party who will be attending the cookout. I will plan for 2 hamburgers and 2 hot dogs for each person. If each person brings a side dish, there should be no reason for anyone to leave hungry.
Please let us know by the weekend of October 5 and 6.
If you want, you can even post the side dish you will bring.
Mike and Pat, tell me which if any of these items the club should buy.
I'll mark things out if they are selected by anyone.

I plan on being there. My daughter may come, but I'm not sure at this time.
I think the club should supply plasticware, plates, napkins, etc., so they are all the same.
Edit: Just found out that my daughter can't come.
-
I can bring both sliced and diced onions. I can get the condiments at Costco or Sam's Club. Mayo, mustard, relish etc.
I will be there with my Wife.
-
The home page should probably be updated to advise about the picnic.

It has been showing on my view of the home page for quite some time. Not sure about that.
-
I haven't looked at the home page on my phone but on all my other devices, it's showing on the home page. I think it's in the calendar, too.

Just the calendar thing. When we did the tech session in place of the meeting, there was a change made to the home page.

Question. How will the non-members and occasional browsers let you know they're coming?
-
Good question. I'll fix that in the above post.

Will this be your wife's first time at a Fiero event?
-
I believe so...
-
Well, after Duchess' first meeting, she became a board member. It was a great way for her to be involved.
-
Right now, I can give you a firm maybe for Oct 12th.
-
Another drive may help keep your Fiero running better.
-
Does anyone have a large cooler in which we can ice down soda and tea? Mike is bringing a styrofoam cooler for ice for our drinks.

Time is running out.
DeShoe? Richard? GTX?
I have to be honest. 6 people? Sounds like my supper table.
-
I spoke with Bob and Richard. Bob has personal matters to attend to. Richard is scheduled to work.
Haven't spoken to John yet.
John will be there
Currently 8. 9
-
Ah. 8 confirmed, and 2 maybe's.
Too bad Anita can't make it. I really enjoyed my brief conversation with her.
How about Ron768 and wife?
I wonder if Paul M. would come?
-
Paul McKibben is in South Carolina getting married. He will be living up north and will become a Sunbird, coming south for the winter.
-
Wow! Well, good for him. I wish for the best for him and the new Mrs., but hope she is a Fiero person.

How much sand do you need for the desert?
-
What is Pineapple Paradise Pie?
-
Who is bringing the bail money?
-
Pineapple Paradise Pie.
1 12 oz. tub of cool whip
1 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
1 20 oz. can crushed pineapple, fully drained.
2 8 or 9 inch graham cracker pie crusts. With either there will be enough left over that the kids (you) can lick the bowl.
toasted coconut.
Place cool whip, sweetened condensed milk, and drained, crushed pineapple into a bowl and mix well.
I have been unable to find toasted coconut so I use a baking sheet covered with no-stick foil. Sprinkle coconut evenly on the foil and place in the oven at 250 until lightly browned.
Place cool whip and pineapple mix into the pie shells and sprinkle with toasted coconut. Chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
-
Cool.
Starting to shape up.
-
Anyone else bringing a dish, other than what's already listed? I need to know before I do the final shopping for meats and buns.
-
I can bring lettuce and tomato. I could also bring dip, but it won't be home-made.
-
Homemade onion dip is easy to make. Use a large container of sour cream, add 2 packages of Onion Soup Mix and blend.
If you're getting readymade, maybe a couple of varieties. Also, if you will, slice the tomatoes. I'm not bringing any sharp knives.
-
How much sand do you need for the desert?
Lots of choices for desert: Black Rock, Death Valley, Mojave, Sonoran...
-
I was told that we will bringing chips and something chocolatey
-
If no one brings a desert, there's a rock quarry about a mile away where we can get lots of sand. :P
-
Right now, I can give you a firm maybe for Oct 12th.
Have to change this to no. Have fun without us.
-
Sorry you guys can't make it.
-

Who has room for desert, anyway?
-
I plan to have room for dessert, I was told it will have chocolate
-
My plans on that usually fail.
-
I just called to see if power would be turned on in the pavilion and asked if the yard sale people usually occupied the pavilion. He said the community yard sale was canceled due to the expectations of rain. Anyway, the Whistlestop Shops will be open and we are on a main thoroughfare so we'll still get good vehicle exposure.
-
Since they cancelled the yard sale due to the chance of rain of course means it will be a beautiful sunny fall day!
-
Yeah, at noon the forecast was for mid 70's and no rain until the afternoon or evening, if any rain at all.
-
Tryin to decide if i should bring potato salad or desert tomorrow, what do we need more of?
-
Roger and Brenda are bringing potato salad. How about Tostitos round chips and some cheese dip made with Velveeta and RO*TEL? 1 can of RO*TEL Original to 1 pound of melted Velveeta.
-
Yeah, at noon the forecast was for mid 70's and no rain until the afternoon or evening, if any rain at all.
It looked good, like 10% chance, last I looked.

Charged up the camera battery overnight.

Ya'll have fun.

Pictures from the picnic...

The Aerodonamic car is back on the road

I don't think this is a normal Fiero nose badge...

-
I hadn't realized that the Aerodonamic Fiero is 2-tone.
-
Its not, you're seeing a shadow
-
There were acttually two more Fieros that showed up later. Hamshrew got there in his black 85SE an hour or so before we finished, and old member Mike Byrd and his wife came in a little earlier in their 3800SC, formerly owned by Ronnie (Fulcher).
Lots of people passing by giving good signals, blowing their horns, yelling compliments and even stopping. It was pretty good exposure for the club.
After charging the camera batteries, I ended up forgetting to take it.
-

Almost everyone has a phone with a camera.
-
Well, it seems that there was a good turnout.
How did Mrs MikeMac like the picnic and ride in the Fiero?
-
Its not, you're seeing a shadow
It's my specialty.
-
The nose on AeroDonamic is unpainted. Don damaged it and kept a LeBra on it. Never got it repainted.
-
I was looking at the lower door panel.
-
Nice pics. Sorry we couldn't make it.
-

Just the calendar thing. When we did the tech session in place of the meeting, there was a change made to the home page.
I saw this on the home page, yesterday. I see that several other things have also been fixed.
-
Forgot to ask. How was the pie?
-
There were only 2 small pieces left of one pie. I don't know how much of that was eaten or how much of it went to the trash can. I think about half of Leigh-Ann's brownies were gone. When we were divvying up all the leftovers, Roger got the remaining pie.
Today, I took a pack of 6 Bubba Burgersl and a pack of 8 buns, 8 hot dogs and a pack of 8 buns, and a bunch of sliced onions to an elderly couple. I forgot the baked beans so tomorrow I will return with a quart container of BBQ Baked Beans. This reminded me that I forgot to get some of Brenda's potato salad to bring home.
-
Potato salad is good--but not the version from the store. The store version is very strong. Too much something.
Baked beans are also good--if you get the right brand. Some brands are either too much or too little of something. My wife puts the beans in a pan, then takes the corn on the cob out of the steamer, wraps the corn in foil with lots of butter, then puts the corn and beans both into the grill, which burns apple chips. She dumps bacon grease on the fire, and closes the grill. About 10 minutes later, it's all ready to eat.
No deviled eggs?
-
No deviled eggs. The beans were a little sweet with some spicy seasoning and shreds of smoked brisket mixed in.
-
I'm happy that the ladies all decided to join us.
I still felt like they didn't have a great deal to "do", or ways to interact.
Apparently, yard sales are the way to get the ladies to attend.
-
But there was only 1 in attendance. .... I didnt tell her the yardssle was cancelled until we were on the way
-
I messed up and told my wife the yard sale had cancelled. So I wasn't surprised that she didn't make much effort to come to the picnic after having to go into work to check why the alarm had gone off. Seems like they should send a cop to check that rather than have someone else check on it that isn't allowed to carry a gun on the property. School board rules.....
-
When I worked for Gwinnett County Schools, I was the first called when doors were found open at my school. There were only 3 men in the school and I lived closest. The police officers wouldn't go inside until I got there and I always carried a gun. The way the classrooms were set up, you were a sitting duck in the hallways and going into the classrooms, which had no windows. The rooms were two deep between the hall and outside and only the outside classroom had a door with a window in the door. It may have been school policy for no guns and it was certainly State Gun Free Zone, but my principal never complained. He even knew I kept in my car in the parking lot. If I had ever been caught by an unknowing police officer, I would have pleaded that I forgot I had it in the car.
-

Well, I'm sure everyone appreciated that she came.
What did she say, when you told her that the yard sale was cancelled?
-

Bored people make bad decisions?
Sometimes, while driving down the road, I see people making BBQ. Now, who else that me could they be making it for? So, I reward their efforts. I've met a lot of people, that way.
I have purchased stuff at a yard sale, but most of the stuff is just someone else's junk. Estate sales are more worthwhile. At least you're looking through stuff they wanted to keep, rather than stuff they wanted to throw away.
-
If anyone copied the Paradise Pineapple Pie recipe, re-copy it. I left out an ingredient. I also left it out of the pies at the cookout. Sweetened condensed milk.
-
That's OK. I was waiting on fresh pineapple, anyway.
-
For my taste, I like Del Monte crushed pineapple over the Dole crushed pineapple. The Dole is a little sweater.
-
I meant fresh from the plant.
-
The notice is still on the home page.
