Some of you know that I started a dune buggy project a few years back. A couple of years ago I blew the clutch and gave up on the project. I ran the engine every couple of weeks until about a year ago. One day while cranking it something under the dash started smoking and I never tried again. I started stripping it to sell parts but I am not good at that so now I want to give some of it or all of it away before I send it to the junk yard. Most of the dash instruments are gone.
Fierofool will post a couple of pics for me. It has 16" Toyota wheels that have no curb rash or corrosion that I can see. The tires are dry rotted but hold air and the car is rollable to put on a trailer or dolly. if someone just wants the wheels they can bring 3 wheels and tires that will fit. I have the spare that came with the car.
The engine is a 2.8 bored to 3.1 with 3.1 heads, roller cam, headers and other goodies. I believe the tranny is Isuzu as the shift cables come over the engine.
The interior is in bad shape.
So if someone want parts of it or all of it, come and get it. I live in Tamassee SC a couple of hours out of Atlanta on Hwy 11, 1/2 hour off of I 85.

Other than the wheels, engine, and transmission, what else is good on it?
-
Everything under the front hood, radiator overflow tank, W/S washer tank etc. should all be OK. Headlights were working. Front bumper is destroyed. The back end was hit by a concrete truck before I bought it so the cradle is bent and so is the frame. I put another A frame on the damaged side and re aligned the wheel so I could drive it on the road.
The paint on the body was about 1/8" thick and someone did it poorly so it is all peeling off.
I am sending a couple of pictures to Charlie to post.

Harry,
Does the engine have iron heads (like the Fiero)? Or the later aluminum heads?
-
If I recall correctly, this is the car that came from Auburn. I remember about getting hit by the concrete truck right after the owner had it painted. Warren Carlsrud was the owner.

Charlie, I was thinking that you might be able to use that 3.1, if it had the iron heads.
Edit - The pics weren't up, before. I remember that car.
That looks like an iron head engine.

Radar;
My magnet says they are iron heads.
Fierofool;
You are correct on the previous owner, as I still have the title in his name. I never registered the car.
The car ran about a year ago so I would guess the fuel pump and tank are OK.

...
Thank you sir.

I've already committed to taking an engine that Paul Angel has. I'd love to have the engine, but I'd have to buy another car to put it into.

Did someone put a fastback GT body on it? 4 speed or 5 speed? Any power accessories? Are you sure the clutch is bad and not the hydraulics?

I've seen the car when it was in one piece. It's an 85 GT that was converted to a fastback.
Based upon the shifter cables, it appears to be an Isuzu trans, as Harry said.
-
ScottB;
Someone did put a GT rear body on it. The tranny is a 5 speed. I got on it at a stop and it made a loud noise like metal breaking and stopped moving. The pedal did not feel right and it would not move so I towed it home and gave up on it.
It has power windows, mirrors and cruise but I sold all the switches.

Nice color!

I guess no one wants anything off this Fiero so I will send it off to the scrap yard next week.

Scott and I have talked about it. Problem is that I won't have the time until after the 1st. I'll pm you tonight when I get home.
-
There are many things I would want off it if I had anywhere to store them. Currently getting ready for a move so I am not able to.

If you want to bring it here to store it that would be OK. While I don't really need anything off of it, I would give you $100 for the wheels if you don't want them, & I may be interested in buying the engine if you don't want that.

Scott and I are going to go up and get it.

Good. Sounds like there were too many parts to just allow it to be scrapped.
-
Charlie;
It may not be worth the effort to take the car. I tried jumping it today to make sure it wasn't frozen but had no success. The solonoid on the starter clicked but the starter did not engage or even try to. I cannot go under it to jump directly to the starter and I can't see how to turn the motor manually. I don't think it is frozen but who knows. I pulled the dipstick and there is no sign of water in the crankcase. The car itself is disgusting looking, covered in mildew and moss.
Its up to you whether you want to take it. If you still want it would you be bringing a trailer or a dolly?
Harry

Scott has a trailer. I have Roger's dolly but it requires new tires before it could be towed. I'll check with Scott to see if he's still interested. Wheels and headers may be worth it, plus a few other things from the engine and front end.
-
I will give it a haome, my only concern is getting it on the trailer. If the trans is broke does the car still roll? It looks like the best time for me will be after the 1st
-
Out of curiosity, what happens if you just pull it on, using a winch?

Any stress would be applied to the trans or engine.
If the trans is locked up, it's likely already shot. Not an issue.
If the engine is locked up, it still probably won't hurt the trans.
If the engine is not locked up, and it's just a starter issue, it will turn. Or not. Still probably won't hurt anything.
-
Someone mentioned having wheel dollies--you know, the kind you put under the tires, so the tires aren't on the concrete, so you wan move the vrhicle around in your dhop.
Of course, using these on a slanted, uneven surface could be very dangerous.
-
The transmission broke. The engine was still running. Later the instrument panel blew smoke. Now the starter won't engage the engine. The car still rolls.
-
The clutch blew but the tranny is still good. The car rolls but you would need a winch as the brake discs are rusty and drag. I have been moving it around on the property with a chain on my golf cart.
