Anybody have an un-used and un-loved exhaust crossover pipe (I have an 88 GT, but I think I'm currently running a pre-88 y-pipe???) that you'd like to sell? Mine has a huge crack where the pipes come together and I'd prefer to buy one than to see if it can be welded. I'm ready to buy ASAP. Contact me at: carnut122@aol.com Thanks!

Just FYI, TFS sells one that can be adapted to the '88, but has no flow restriction, and is heat-coated.
-
I forgot the differences between the 88 and non-88. What mods are needed?
-
The pipe from the cat needs to be extended up a bit. Note that the EGR will be slightly closer to the distributor, and the 02 sensor will point a slightly different direction. You need to be sure that the heat shield by the ignition coil is in place.
-
You'll probably need new gaskets at the EGR and the cat pipe, and new bolts for the manifolds, if those bolts have never been out.
-
Here is the heat-coated one.

Thanks for the quick reply. I put shorty headers on it when I swapped in the 3.4 (on which I think I used the 88 y-pipe). But, I went back to stock manifolds and I think I used an 87 y-pipe from my parts car (as I seem to remember having to extend the downpipe). So, I think I'm probably currently set up for the pre-88 y-pipe. Now I'm thinking I need the pre-88 y-pipe??? If no viable used part is found, I'll see if the local muffler shop can weld mine up, and the Fiero Store will be plan C.
I forgot to mention, the y-pipe is currently out of the car.

If they're going to weld it, maybe you can have them remove the restriction.
-
I did that on the 88-y-pipe that I sold with the shorty headers. I wasn't wanting to deal with that, but you make a good point. I guess I'll see in the morning?
I found this:https://www.carid.com/davico/exhaust-crossover-pipe-mpn-126372.html?singleid=901113850 Looks like mild steel to me, but maybe some ceramic paint?
-
The broken y-pipe had the Jiffy-Pop foil heat shield on it. Would that mean it was an 88 y-pipe?
-
Yes.
-
Another way to tell the 88 pipe is that the EGR valve leans far to the driver's side rather than standing straight up as the earlier years.
-
Thanks for the replies. Looks like I've located two 88 y-pipes on Pennocks.
-
Is yours not repairable?
-
It might be? I'll bolt it to something (maybe a 2 x 4?) and slice out the restriction then see if my muffler guy can weld it up. In the meantime. my new(to me) crossover is in place and the car is back on the road.

Glad to read about progress with your Fiero. Looking forward to reading about a successful repair.
