Title: Printed circuit board repair
Post by: ron768 on January 01, 2020, 09:56:23 pm
So, after much searching, I find that there are no printed circuit boards(new) available for the instrument cluster for our cars. ( Fieros) So, is there a way to repair or is there a company or individual that repairs printed circuit boards that would be affordable?

I could probably repair one, depending on the damage.

I have 1 still attached to the white skeleton.  It's out of the instrument pod.  It has 1 end of a circuit that's curled up around the area of a light but it's serviceable as is.  Come get it.  I think I also have a complete instrument pod for an 85.  I have one for an 84 but I don't think that will work for you.

I'm curious how hard it would be to make the plastic with the copper traces.

The traditional way of making a printed circuit board is to start with a board covered completely with copper. A mask is placed on the copper where the traces are wanted, and then the unmasked copper is removed with acid, and then the masking is removed. Another mask may be placed on those parts of the traces where components are to be soldered, and a protective coating applied to the unmasked parts.
A broken trace can be repaired by scraping off the protective coating on either side of the break, and then soldering a fine wire to each scraped part to bridge the break.

There are new boards available for the tach still when I looked in March.

I need the one that goes on the back of the white plastic housing. I have several tachs, speedos, fuel gauges and coolant gauges. As it stands right now, I am coming to the jan meeting.

I'll bring the circuit membrane and support that I have.
