Title: Engine won't stay running - '84 swapped with a V6
Post by: pgackerman on January 11, 2020, 10:39:06 am

Fiero Folk,

My CSRA Fiero Club of Augusta, GA Facebook page has been contacted by a Ms. Dibble.  Her husband has swapped a V6 into an '84 but the engine won't stay running.  Here's what I know:

Ms. Dibble: We have a 1984 that my husband started to switch engines in, he no longer has been working on it, would like to know if you have a reference for anyone who might be interested in finishing the job

Me: The Georgia Fiero Club is your best bet: http://www.gafiero.org/bbs/index.php     Is he looking to sell or to finish the job?  Engine swaps are beyond my skill level.

Ms. Dibble: Engine has been swapped, steering column is in, computer is replaced, have all parts out of 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder parts are in, engine does not stay running

Any ideas?  Anyone want to go the the CSRA Fiero Club of Augusta, GA facebook page and help out?

Some questions:
1.  It does start?
2.  How long does it run? 1 second, several seconds, ...?
3.  Have the basics been checked?  Fuel pressure, spark?  The fuel pump from the L4 must be changed out for the V6 fuel pump.

Fuel pump could be the problem as GTRS indicated.  Todd at The Fiero Farm in North Charleston would be a good source for completion of the job.

Amazingly the fuel pump was my first thought too.
Haven't heard back yet.

Do you have a number or address?

The number he gave me to contact him is where he works.  He's the manager of Hill Tire Centers in N. Charleston.
