Title: Engine hatch popper stopped working.
Post by: HarryT on January 12, 2020, 02:55:32 am
What generally goes wrong with engine cover popper.  It just stopped working.  If I remember correctly it does not open with the engine running only with the key on.

Both of mine require the Ebrake to be activated with the ignition on.  Nothing is required with the ignition off.  Just push the button.

Check the harness connector at the right decklid hinge.  Also have Karin press down on the deck lid while you activate the release switch.  It may be that the latch isn't making sufficient contact with the loop to create a good ground.

Does the relay click?

If the relay clicks, but the solenoid doesn't activate, it could be - in no particular order:
1. Bad solenoid.
2. Bad ground. (The solenoid gets its ground through the trunk latch "loop", when the lid is closed.)
3. Bad connection / wire. I have seen the 12V wire broken where it goes through the rubber grommet at the front corner of the decklid.
4. Bad relay. (The "switched" side contacts could be burned. It does happen.)

If the relay does not click, it could be bad, or the switch could be bad.
I'm not sure about parking brake or gear selector requirements, since my car has been swapped from auto to manual. Mine works all the time.

There's the question: automatic or manual?

It is a manual.  I have been working on my Taurus but will start checking out the Fiero on Tuesday.
Thanks for the suggestions;
