Title: Too many pictures?
Post by: GTRS Fiero on August 14, 2020, 05:57:32 pm
If someone is selling a Fiero, and you are interested, but want to see pictures of a particular thing, how many pictures is too many?

In this case, I asked for pictures of three particilar areas.  Several pictures were sent, in reply, but not those pictures.  So, I repeated the request, and was sent more pictures, but very low-resolution, and still not of the requested things.  Also, the person said that they're in a different state, and not where the Fiero is.  They suggested that I contact a different person who is local, and ask them.  I did so, with what was the third request for pictures of the original three areas.  Again, more pictures, which seemed to be the original pictures I'd seen on the ad, but not the pictures I'd requested.  At this point, I'd lost interest in the Fiero.  I have a total of maybe thirty pictures sent to me, about half of which are duplicates.

My question is, was that too many picture requests?

If you requested specific pictures and didn't get them, I don't see a problem with asking for those areas, again, until you determine that the sender is being evasive, or you're no longer interested.  If you ask for 3 and they send you 30, the number sent isn't under your control.

The seller is not very happy with me.  From their point of view, they sent many pictures.  The low-resolution ones are useless.  I can identify that the pictures are of a Fiero, and the color of the Fiero.  I can also identify the area.  Unfortunately, I can't tell anything about condition.

Note for future sellers.  Pictures that are 90 pixels square aren't helpful.

Many used car sellers are... how to put this... not very smart.  Here's a recent transaction:

Is the car still available?
How many miles?
Where are you located?

Answer:
Yes.

Through other means I determined they were too far away to matter and didn't pursue the subject.

Yeah, I had a seller tell me that a car was a manual...because it had neutral.

One of my favorites:  Is it an automatic or manual?

Answer:  Both!

Why?  Cuz the car had the thumb/finger upshift/downshift buttons on the steering wheel.

Should probably have asked how many pedals are on the floor.  But then I'd have to worry about a floor pedal parking brake.

I usually want to see an engine bay pic, a trunk corner pic, an underbody pic, an interior pic, a front compartment pic, and pictures that include both sides, the front, rear, and roof.  What I get is usually 5 or 6 interior pics, a blurry engine bay pic, and a picture showing part of one side.  Sometimes, the seller sends pictures of the tread on the tires.

I once went to look at a Fiero that had a great left side, but the right side was damaged.  Another Fiero had the rear wheels sticking out about 2" too far on one side, and in about 2" on the other side.  The plug wires had been eaten by rodents, and the car was covered in tree sap and pine needles.  The pictures had shown a pristine car.  The guy insisted that the Fiero had always been garaged.  So, when did he remove the pine trees from his garage?  This particular Fiero was a V8 swap, and I suspect the swap was never completed to the point that the Fiero could be driven.  It was supposed to have been an '88, but was actually an '86.  Dunno why the seller thought it was the year of purchase that determined the year of the car--especially when he bought it used.
