I've noticed my oil dip stick is frequently popped up enough to be noticeable. Mostly cuz I push down first, maybe an 1/8" to 1/4", before pulling it out.
Has anyone else noticed the same thing?

Check the PCV to make sure it is working and not letting pressure build up inside the crankcase
-
Does the stick pop up, if left for a day, or does the engine have to run?
-
Good question.
Just went to the garage to check and the dip stick has not popped up since this morning when I checked my oil. Nor have I taken the car out today.
-
Crankcase pressure could be the issue, but other things, like tension and bumps can cause the issue, as well.
-
Seems that if there was excess crankcase pressure there would be oil blown out of the dipstick tube and also probably around the oil filler cap. Even with a healthy engine and PCV valve, there could still be a little oil at the dipstick. Most likely it's just from engine vibration and some resistance to the dipstick going all the way into the tube.

You certainly worded that better than I did.
-
Just worded differently, but agreeing with you.

Completely agree about the PCV issue. But to help eliminate excessive pressure and blow by I use AutoRX or SeaFoam. If any of the oil passages get clogged it can build up pressure where you don’t want it. Try a new PCV and a good engine oil flush.

What was the outcome on the popup stick-in-the block?
-
Nothing yet. Considering getting a replacement PCV.
Figure this has been going on for some time, no rush.
-
PCV is cheap and easy, but there will be oil in that vacuum tube, if PCV is bad. Oil in vacuum tube is bad.
-
Yup, true.
