In the image above, there are two pieces of heat shield between the ignition coil and the crossover pipe. The horizontal piece extends to the left of the vertical piece, and has a hole in that section. Why the extension, and why the hole?

That part is left over from prior years and bolted to the sheet metal crossover shield. The crossover was closer to the coil

The crossover pipe is close enough, for me.
