Title: The Swap Meet is On
Post by: TopNotch on January 18, 2010, 11:43:14 am
Jeremy Biggs of the Fiero Factory has announced on the Factory's Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Toney-AL-35773/The-Fiero-Factory/202488773079) that there will be a swap meet/open house this year on April 30th through May 1st. It's good to know that the tradition will continue.

I figured that Jeremy would do good things with the Fiero Factory.
I think that we will be pleasantly surprised with things to come.
Not only is Jeremy a savvy businessman, he's a performance enthusiast.
He'll also approach the business with an outlook that is sure to attract younger folks, too. (The Facebook page is an excellent start.)

Anyone needing information about the swap meet, please feel free to ask.
I think I've been to all of them.

People usually start trickling in before lunch time on Friday.
Friday afternoon and all day Saturday are prime time.
Many people leave on Saturday night. By noon Sunday, most everyone is usually gone.

The usual place to stay is the Quality Inn. 3788 University Drive in Huntsville.
Of course, the "official" place to eat is La Alameda Mexican restaurant, right across from the hotel.
There are lots of other places too.

From West GA (I live in Douglasville) the quickest way is probably I-20 to the Oxford/Anniston exit, taking 431 North, straight in to Huntsville. (At that point, 431 actually leads straight into Hwy 53 which goes North to Toney, and the Fiero Factory.)
People who live north of town will probably opt to take the "scenic, twisty" roads through Rome, and Fort Payne AL. I am not familiar with that route, however. Lots of other folks have gone that way numerous times, so information is available for those who are also not familiar.

I think we have about 7 cars going to the swap meet. We'll probably leave Saturday morning and get a room for Saturday night and come home on Sunday.

For those wanting a twisty ride through the mountains, I have a route I prefer over the one through Rome, which can get congested at rush hour.  I've been driving back & forth to Huntsville a lot lately, and this is my preferred route.

From I-75 N:

Take exit 306 and turn left onto GA-140 W

Go 16.0 mi and turn right onto GA-1 N/Martha Berry Hwy/US-27 N

Go 13.9 mi and turn left onto GA-48 W

Go 23.0 mi and turn right onto AL-117 N/AL-7/US-11 N

DON'T MISS THIS NEXT TURN

Turn quickly back left (about 0.1 mi) onto AL-117 N/AL-40 W

Go 23.9 mi.  Beware of the 30 MPH left turn on this leg.  You CANNOT take it at 60 like you'd think.  It's tight and off camber.

Turn right onto AL-35 N/Veterans Dr

Go 3.4 mi and turn left onto US-72 toward Huntsville

Go 37.8 mi and US-72 turns into I-565W

Go 7.3 mi and take exit 14B for AL-255 N/Research Park Blvd

Go 5.7 mi and turn left onto AL-53 N/Jordan Ln

Go 10.6 miles to the Fiero Factory on right

This route takes you through a few little towns, but nothing that backs up like Rome.  The worst holdup I typically experience on this route is sometimes getting stuck behind slow traffic, which can happen with any of the non-interstate routes.  For some reason, an 18-wheeler will sometimes think this route's a good idea.

I generally get gas at the Racetrack at I-75 exit 277.  It seems like all the gas after that point is more expensive, until you get to the Kangaroo just a couple of miles after turning onto US-72.  The distance between these two stations is about 120 miles.

I don't know if I'll be able to make the meet.  I may be driving to Atlanta as you guys are driving to Huntsville.  If you pass a white Formula going the other way, wave.

Well, I was looking forward to making this meet and seeing the new operation under Jeremy.  Had my reservations all made.  Now, I have to cancel and won't be able to attend.

I have encountered some problems with the front suspension on both of our primary vehicles.  The ones I need to transport Melanie to and from her appointments.  Both need work done before things really get serious.

Hey all, I would like to see if I could hitch a ride with someone to the meet. Jeremy will have my 4.9 installed and ready for pickup at the meet.
I will be happy to split the gas cost.

As discussed... You got it.

How are you getting to D'ville?
Will you need to leave a car here?

I picked up my 4.9 Formula!
It's going to take me some real drive time in the mountains to get used to the torque difference.

I bought some stuff and sold some stuff.

Autozone furnished free hotdogs and hamburgers for lunch Saturday.

I got to meet Rodney Dickman, Paul Vargous, and cast of other hard core fiero owners.

Ed & Rosey Parks made a appearance around lunch.

Had a great time ...look foward to it again next year!

Thanks...Jeremy!
