Title: Club Member Scott Brown in accident. Needs our help
Post by: Fierofool on March 06, 2010, 08:41:20 pm
One of our long time members, Scott Brown from Dawsonville was in an accident.  He's OK and apparently uninjured, but his truck is out of commission.  He was struck pretty solidly by an approaching car that took the whole drivers side of the quad cab truck.  The truck is not driveable and suffered pretty extensive damage.  As a result, Scott has no transportation.  Due to the slowdown in the housing construction industry, he's been having a difficult time.

You may know that he has an 86Se that he's been trying to sell.  Well, now that needs to be his primary transportation, but it isn't streetable.  I've asked him to make a list of the things that need to be done to it in order for him to get it on the road.

I'd like for us to make a trip to Dawsonville on March 20 and have a tech day of putting his car back together.  It will need to be good weather since he doesn't have a garage.

Who's willing to jump in and help out?

Thats the same day as our meeting, but I'll see if I can get everybody up for a drive instead and come down and help. No promises but I'll see what I can do.

From what I understand all it needs is the insides put back together and a 4 wheel alignment. Then it's road worthy.

Thanks guys. TO let everyone know, everyone involved in the accident walked away. I just happened to be at the wrong place at the right time. After looking over my truck today, I think it will be totaled out. Which means that GEICO will be writing me a nice big check. I am going to attempt to put some pictures up here, no guarantees that I will be successful.

As far as the car goes, I have my list scanned in and I will try to put it up, too. All that I am really asking for is everyone's time, I am  pretty sure that I have all the parts needed to put it back together. I am really not looking for money. Let me see if I can get the pictures to work:

That doesn't look any worse than my truck did after someone t-boned me in '04, not long after I had bought the thing. After the body shop at Stone Mtn. Ford got through with it, you couldn't even tell it had been hit. (Yes, I'm talking about that red truck in my driveway, which some of you have seen. I bet you didn't know it had been in a wreck.)

I think this is the car that hit him.

The truck doesn't look as bad in these pics as in the phone pic he sent me.  Can't say as much for the lady's van, though.

Looking over the list, some of the things are cosmetic, but the things I think it will need at a minimum to get it on the road are:

Repair horn
Replace cruise control stalk.
Install interior trim & console
Install passenger door glass hardware and hinges.
Install drivers door skin.
Replace drivers fender.

This Saturday the 20th is the date we scheduled to work on Scott's car.  Who is coming, what time and where do we meet up?  Scott lives just up behind the McDonalds where we often meet on Ga. 400 in Dawsonville.

Anyone seen any forecasts for the weekend weather?

Anyone seen any forecasts for the weekend weather?

20% chance of showers, high 64. Probably just about like last Saturday.

It'd be best to bring your own tools.  The location we could meet at is the intersection of Ga. Hwy 400 and Ga. Hwy 53, Dawsonville, Ga.    Or put in Ridge Lane, Dawsonville in your GPS.  He's the 2nd on the left.  Dewey, I don't know which would better for you, taking 20 all the way to 369 and follow it to 400 north, or taking 108 up through Waleska.  Hwy 108 runs into 53 South and takes you right down by Scott's house.

Scott, I hope we're fixing this up for you to drive until you have a truck, not for you to sell.

Forecast is still for sunny and 70 degrees.

What time are we going to meet up?

Right now we have:

Dewey
Pat
Jerry
Me
I think Don said he would help.  I'll check.
Anyone else?

Hey everyone, I really appreciate the help and support that everyone has offered, however, everything has change in the last couple of days.

GEICO is going to repair my truck and have provided me with a rental until repairs are complete. The new Silverados seem to be pretty decent.

As a result, I no longer have a pressing need to get my car on the road. Also, it looks like I am going to have to work on Saturday to make up for a couple of bad weather days.

I hate to seem to be so flaky, but that is how everything worked out. Again, I want to thank everyone for their offers of help and support.

Thanks again, Scott

I think the only thing it needs to get it on the road is the brakes repaired.  I don't know if it's the front or rear that need rebuilding.  I have tires to put on it.  Was gonna do tires today, but other things came up.  Right now, several of them have very slow leaks due to nails in them, but I'm not going to worry about that until I select the best rims to remount them on.

I have an upgraded radio for it, but it needs a harness.  Kevin was going to handle that when he has the time.

I have a quad exhaust system from a Formula to go on it, and I need to swap out the valve cover gasket.

Dan had some family matters and personal illness, so he hasn't gotten the title from Alabama, yet.
