Title: Member Health
Post by: Roger on August 10, 2024, 10:39:39 am
Any updates on how Ron and Steve are doing?

What I've been told is that Steve is doing well.  It was discovered that Ron also had a fractured shoulder blade and has developed an infection but he was released from the hospital and is otherwise recovering.  Maybe they'll chime in and give better info.

I'm alive. :D

Thanks for asking, Roger. Just in recovery mode, now. Want to do stuff that I can't, yet. They don't want me to injure anything. "Range of motion" and exertion-related.
I can give you the whole rundown if you want it, but probably TMI for here.
If you want, go to my Farcebook page. I'm one of Brenda's friends, so you can find it. I posted first, about it, on August 30th or 31st, and then added a couple of updated comments.

I last spoke with Ron on Wednesday or Thursday.  Sounded like Ron. :D He sounded good. Probably better than he feels, to be honest. He said that he's likely going to be spending the rest of the year recuperating. Broken shoulders are like broken ribs. Not a lot to be done except wait.
He was unsure about whether he would be up for RFTH - if he has a car to drive. But I think that's covered.

Hi all, I should have been posting all along. So 14 July, running an errand on the ZRX. Im in traffic and going to make a left turn when the car next to me decides to make a left turn also. Multiple lanes at this intersection . Anyway, they turn on top of me. Next thing I know Im in an ambulance heading to the hospital. They cut my gear off and tell me looks like you have a couple of broke ribs. My right leg swells up to over twice its normal size. No broken bones there , just trauma from the impact. 3 days later, I get released from Huntsville hospital and Susan and I travel back to NC for me to recover from this. A week later, I have a UTI and managed to put enough stress on my right shoulder blade to break it. ( it was already cracked, it didnt show on all the other x-rays or scans)  and that takes another 4 days in the local hospital on iv drugs to clear it up.  Shoulder is going to take a while longer. So, for the time being, I will be here in Kenansville NC to heal up. Ya'll aren't rid of me yet!

I'm really sorry to have to add another to the list.

Scott Brown was having dental work done yesterday and went under too deep and didn't wake up.  911 was called and he was transported to Northside Forsyth.  At some point he went into cardiac arrest.  He is currently in ICU and on a ventilator but they hope to wake him up on Wednesday.

He is currently in ICU and on a ventilator but they hope to wake him up on Wednesday.

Charlie, since you obviously have a line of communication, please keep us posted. I don't want to call and bother anybody.

They tried to wake him yesterday but it didnt go well. He is still in ICU on the ventilator and they are withdrawing sedatives in an effort to try again.

Same here. Sent him a text, also. Got a "delivered" receipt, so his phone is apparently on.

Scott was breathing with the ventilator today so they turned off the sedatives and ventilator.  After about a half hour he began to hyper-ventilate and they turned it back on.  He was awake but non-reactive to questions or sounds during that time.  MRI & CT scans are normal. Brainwave scans are normal. He has been moving his arms and legs.  He is on a heavy IV antibiotic because he aspirated during CPR.

Thanks for the update Charlie. It's encouraging.

I'm okay. Still healing. Way better off than... others. :)
I haven't talked with Ron since he got home.

Hi all, Im doing better. The swelling in my left leg has gone away. Right leg is still swollen but I have noticed that it has gotten smaller. I am walking around the yard here  and as its 4 acres its a bit of a walk. Right shoulder is still very sore, but mending. Not able to drive yet.

Scott is still sedated and intubated. Doctors need to see his bodily functions at a certain level before trying again. He keeps spiking a fever.

I visited Scott on Thursday.  Sometimes he was restless and sometimes calm. Nurse said that he was agitated that day. I couldnt tell. Maybe it was something the monitors were showing. Other than that there is no change.

Steve,
Glad to hear that both you and Ron are on the mend and doing well.

I heard from LeAnn a couple of days ago and Scott is still out.
He was having a fever in and out and is still on a ventilator.
They are waiting for his bodily functions to get back in rythm.
She is expectably worried. Her 2 daughters are staying with her
and her mom is close by. Keep them all in your prayers.

Unfortunately, Scott had extensive brain damage and passed away peacefully last night.
LeAnn will let me know about arrangements.

Scott will be buried in October.  There will be a Celebration of Life at McDonald & Sons in Cumming followed by graveside services at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.  The actual date will be announced as soon as it's known when the cemetery will be available.

If anyone has pictures or video of Scott, email them to the club email address.  They would like to make a video for the service.

Tomorrow and Monday are services for Scott.  I was intending to attend tomorrow, if just for a little. Certainly going to drive the Formula.   Anyone else intending on going?
