If you have an 88 duke Fiero, or any VIN R duke engine 88-92, Rodney Dickman (http://rodneydickman.com/catalog/index.php) (who has some of the highest quality Fiero parts) now has the hard-to-find force balancers (http://rodneydickman.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=297&osCsid=d658d2639648d421eec0f5126f9e9589) for that engine. I actually helped him get that product by doing a little research that yielded a quality company in Taiwan making them. He made the deal to buy some from them, and now sells them for far less than what GM wanted when they still had some (they have none now).
You will have to transfer your oil pump housing from your old balancer assembly to the new one, but his come with a new gerotor gear assembly, which is the heart of the oil pump. These gear assemblies are also impossible to get from GM now.

It is a counterweight balancer to reduce the vibrations of the crankshaft. Makes for a smoother and longer lasting engine. The 87 and 88 Fiero engines were built with these.

Actually, 87 dukes didn't have the balancer. They were introduced in 88, and were in 88-92 VIN R duke engines. 87 dukes did, however, get the DIS ignition.

I never really thought of Fieros as having Darth Vader protection. May the force be with you.
Rodney is out of these, but I wonder if they could work with '84-'87 L4 engines.

Since the oil pump is in the balancer assembly, I doubt it would work in earlier engines. But even if it did, you'd need the 88 crankshaft which has the gear to drive the balancer (and oil pump).

Rockauto used to list the same part number for the 87 and 88 crankshafts. Since the 87 has DIS, it needs the wheel. I'm guessing they cut the teeth in the gear, too. (I've never been into my Duke, so if I'm getting it wrong, please feel free to correct me.)
There's still the question of whether it would bolt in and pump oil.

The sell the same crank because the 88 will fit the 87. In fact, it will fit all years, and it's stronger than earlier years. The original 87 crank was a one-year only crank with a wheel with notches for the crank sensor, but without gear teeth for the balancer.

Ah. Okay. Makes sense.
And I've seen it recommended for the earlier engines, as you mentioned.
