The Georgia Fiero Club needs volunteers to serve on the board of directors for 2012. If you would like to serve, reply here. Our charter calls for 5 board members. We will need to vote on 5 of those who volunteer by the November meeting.

I have no complaints about the way things have been run so far...but, if there is an open position that needs to be filled, I am willing to do what needs to be done. Please don't translate that into me thinking I am the best person for the job...but I understand if the best people need a break, and that people like me need to step up.

Greg, I like the idea of you being on the board. But, will the geographic location / distance be an issue for you? Meetings, events and so on? You know, board members should appear every now and then ;D

In the past we've had members of the board that never came to a meeting during the time they were on the board. Some of them didn't even pay their dues, either.

I understand, but don't necessarily agree. I think for any club or organization to function more properly, the members of the board should show presence and participation. At least occasionally.
Just my 2 cents

Oh, I totally agree with you, Don. I was just giving you some history. To be a part of the club or to be a candidate for office doesn't require paying membership dues, but if you hold office, you should be a dues paying member after election and not be an absentee member.
-
I will be on the board, but not an officer.
-
Before I volunteer I would like to know the "responsibilities, duties a.s.o. as a board member.
-
Thank you Charlie for the "Articles of Incorporation".
After reading the statues I am volunteering as a board member. ;D
BTW: Why aren't those "Articles" not on our website, or is that against the rules? @ whoeverisresponsible ;)
-
The "Articles" are on the club documents page (http://gafiero.org/docs.shtml) now.
-
cool, thank you Pat :)

being a paying member and also a member who is not willing to be a officer or board member i think cowspatoot has show his willingness to be involved in the club and attend and participate as often or even more then some of us. i think he would be a good board/officer person with possibly some new ideas and thinking and also he may have friends that might become members because of his participation. just my 2 cents.

Just for clarification, you can't volunteer to be a director or officer. You can announce your candidacy for a position on the board. Then the dues paying members vote on whom they want at the November meeting and the top 5 vote getters are elected. Then that board-elect must find 3 people to appoint as officers of the club. Records and minutes should be kept of all candidates and voting.
-
Thanks for the vote of confidence, oldone...but there have been some very valid points brought up. Regardless of having a good excuse for it, I AM still mostly an absentee member...and unfortunately that is unlikely to change.
For the record...this isn't something I "want". I enjoy taking advantage of others' work and having fun with no responsibility...but I enjoy it enough to be willing to do what I have to in order to insure that the fun doesn't end.
-
Would you consider someone from out of state, that is a due paying club member? But I'll be riding in a Honda. That's my wifes car. I'm still having a little trouble getting my clutch leg to work good on long trips.

So my question is:Pat, if I am still stuck in Alaska during the November meeting, can I just PM my vote to you?
-
voting is done in the computer.........
-
Last year votes were taken by email, mail, and cast in person at the meeting. All voters casting ballots should be verified as dues-paying members of the current year. What we did was to require all votes that weren't cast in person at the meeting to be in hand of the club officers by midnight of the Friday night before the meeting. Those wishing to cast a vote in person could do so Saturday, the day of the meeting by submitting a written ballot. Each voter may select 5 persons for the board.
Directors simply oversee the operation of the club from the background. If the board feels there's a problem with the officers or the direction the club is headed, they may call special meetings to address those issues, or to remove an officer from their position. Other than that, they need only meet 2 or 3 times a year, but to know what's happening in the club, it would be good to attend meetings occasionally.

You can PM or email your vote. We have to have enough people running first, though.

I hereby announce my candidacy for a board of directors member for 2012. My wife also announces her candidacy.
Anybody else?

I am be pleased to announce my candidacy for Board of directors.

If you announced for candidacy, and your message disappeared, please post again.
How would it disappear, unless intentionally deleted?
-
How about deleted by mistake? ;D
-
Repost: I'm a candidate for a seat on the board.

So I take it, I can vote for 5 individuals, but only if they have announced that they are willing to be a candidate?
And so far, I only see 4 people have announced that they would be willing.
-
Yes, you can vote for 5 different persons. Reason is that with just 1 vote everyone could cast a vote for only 2 or 3 people and we'd come up short of officers. Since there are 5 positions open, you can vote to fill each slot.
Right now, going back through the whole thread, I count 5, plus I just spoke with Don Hulse and he's willing. Of course, you can do a write-in ballot, too and hope they're willing to serve if elected.
Candidates who've announced are:
Linda Swayne
Pat Swayne
Anne
Jerry
Charlie
Don Hulse
CowsPatoot is unannounced.
