Title: Anyone got a scrap aero nose?
Post by: Tha Driver on September 23, 2011, 08:00:07 pm
Know how the grill area always warps? I'm thinking about making a fiberglass reinforcement to correct that.  It will glue in behind the nose & won't be visible, but will hold the grill opening straight. All I need is a scrap nose that I can cut out the grill area to do the R&D/mold work. Can pay a few bucks for a scrap nose.
Thanks,

Paul,
I haven't noticed the grill area droop as much as the flat area just in front of the hood going "concave".
But then, I have a Formula nose instead of the aero.
I've thought about just epoxying an aluminum sheet in there. Think that will work? (My apologies for the hijack, but you may have other product ideas, as well.)

How about filling the concave area with expandable foam?

I have yet to see an aero nose that the grill area was perfectly straight. I'm painting one right now, & I had to use heat to straighten it out, & it's still not perfect. They don't droop across the front, but the back of the opening always warps (that's what I want to fix).
Fixing the top would require a whole new replacement for the eggcrate, or something to go on top of it - in which case you'd have to secure it better. It would also depend on how the bumper reinforcement was bolted up on each car, as it has adjustments up & down (just sliding it up may help).

I have a nose that i took off my 87 notchie, it was in a fender bender and the top where the hood meets is goofed up a little but the grill area is good. you can have it if we can arrange a way for you to get it. in the meantime i can e-mail you a photo of it when it was on my car.

Who is closer?  ;)  I'm near Commerce (about 10 miles from the dragstrip).
I'm not in any hurry. You can email or PM me your location if you like.
Nightmare: If you need help with your car you're welcome to bring it up here & work on it. Aren't the IMSA fenders made to fit up to a special IMSA nose?
You can email me at ImThaDriver at yahoo.

Way too early for me. I'm still working nights & usually go to bed at around 6 AM.  :D
