*** UPDATING TO SHOW THE PARTS I HAVE GOTTEN***
Ok as many of you already know my little car was very molested before I got it... The whole car was spray bombed by the P.O.... and not well either... Even still it was covered in black and green ick that had stained the crappy spray paint job. So rather then have a dingy off-white/orange/green/black... I had to respray bomb it! So its good from across the way, but just don't study it... LOL! ;)
So the goals were to get it running, then running reliabley... done... ;D
Then get the suspension upgraded (used to wander the road at speed)... done ;D
Wheels & tires... To modernize was cheaper then refinishing the indy ones & adding new tires... done ;D
Now it is back to how it looks in and out... I can't deny I can't leave well enough alone. I modify everything. It's in my nature. :o However, I have a strict plan... save all indy parts and don't modify them unless they are ruined. If ruined find mint replacements to put away! ;) So that being said...
So I had to really think about what I wanted to do to get the car where I want it. I know I can not afford to have a shop sand all that spray paint off the indy panels... that one is going to be on me. :'( If its to be restored, I want to use those panels. They are all decent, less the side gfx. But I don't have a compressor yet and that's alot of hand sanding... so I decided it might be cheaper and less down time for the car, for me to get new junkyard parts and play with (modifiy) them and swap them on. Then when I get my compressor I can properly strip the indy panels down and paint them the "correct" way and color, so the car can go back "indy" when the time is right. ;) I have been trying to get to Pull-a-part, but the holidays and my stepdaughters cheer schedule is really making it impossible. >:(
So that brings me to my topic... the parts I don't have yet to do this that you might have laying around...
(I have a white hood & silver "smooth molding" rear bumper & doors)
I need these exterior pieces (in white if possible, if not... no worries)
*A smooth molding aero nose (yes I want to finish going smooth, but don't want to cut the indy's ribs off)
*A junk areo nose to cut the bottom off and do a "Skittime" nose mod Ashby working on
*Both Front fenders Ashby working on
*Both Rear quarters (section in front of rear tire) Ashby working on
*Side GFX (my lower section on both sides have been squashed by a jack and now have a permenant seam) Got from Don
*Rear inner wheel splash gards... mine are cracked and I'm missing the lower flaps
*A mint notchback tailight for the passengerside (mine is chipped) Got from Don
I need these interior pieces.. (in dove/light grey if possible)
*Drivers side A-pillar
*Both B pillars set up for rear speakers... (indy seats are out and I need some rear speakers... lol) Got from Don (ones to mod)
*Arm rests (need set to send off to Russ88 to have recovered to mimic the indy's) Don got
*Arm rests (need set to send off to Russ88 to have a custom two tone modified version)
*Dash with no cracks...
*HVAC/radio surround (spare to send to Russ88 for custom modification) No worries if the rubber is flaring Got from Don
*Shifter Surround (spare to send to Russ88 for custom modification) No worries if the rubber is flaring Got from Don
*Gauge pod surround (spare to send to Russ88 for custom modification)
*Black trunk carpet (mint)...
Misc stuff...
*Stock sway bar
*Duke air cleaner set up (metal intake air tract) (need one to repaint to look like INDY version)
*EGR Cover (from another GM vehicle)
*84 duke w/ 4 speed rear most tranny bracket (mine is snapped in half)
*Fuel injector wiring
*Throttle cable
I will not be at the January meeting... cheer competition out of state, but I will be at Whodeanies for the overhaulin and can bring the montero if anyone wants to sell me some parts you got laying about... :D
Like the title says... I would rather give the money to you then to the junk yard, esp around the holidays

Just a note FYI. The 84 and 85 chassis doesn't have the recess in the B pillars that's needed for the speakers. Also required to mount B pillar speakers is a plastic bezel that the speakers mount into, then that assembly attaches to the chassis. Even with cars designed for B pillar speakers, if the magnet is much larger than stock, they won't fit. You may want to consider a small surface mount box set on the back window ledge, positioned against each B pillar. Just a thought.

I'm a wiz with a dremel... I've heard some say you can just cut the area to hold the speaker (metal) and transplant in the bezel... As long as it does not affect the structure... Then when its time to go back the old 84 b-pillars will cover up the evidence...
However if the b-pillar plastic itself is the same except for the grill cover and the hole I have a spare set of dove b-pillars w/o the speaker holes. I could cut them up, then I just need the 86-up speaker cover and plastic insert
-
With the B pillar trim removed, this is the speaker mount that bolts to the body.
.JPG)
There is a left and right. One side of the bezel is thicker than the other so that the speaker sits flush behind the speaker cover. The speaker then mounts to this, and the B pillar trim then goes back over it. If you can find an 86 or later car in a yard, it would be worth the trouble to remove them.
I have an AC/Radio vinyl surround you can have.
-
you have to have the vinyl radio surround with the cut out for the auxillary guage pod. what kind of plastic surround plates do you need, dot matrix, alum,

I don't have the factory aux gauges... So I don't need the one with the cut out. Mine are aftermarket with an aftermarket pillar pod. Its why I need the drivers pillar to flush it in.
-
have a guy in Wisconsin quote me $185 for all this..
white drivers side and passenger side: front fenders and lower rear quarters (in front of tires)
aero nose black with smooth moldings
rear wheel well splash guards both sides.. (just verified really only need passenger side wheel well splash guard but need both side lower flaps)
mint notchback taillight passenger side
throttle cable (4 cylinder?) going on an 84...
interior
two pairs of arm rests
speaker style b-pillars driver & passenger (color?)
drivers a-pillar (color?)
gauge surround
shifter surround
HVAC/radio surround
overhead console (3 button)
the pinch is the shipping.... He is thinking $100-150.... Is it worth it? $285-335 shipped for all the above?
-
I'd say the price excluding shipping cost is actually phenomenally low. Of course I hope none of the trim pieces have the usual ailment, i.e. tabs cracked off or the fasteners for the clips broken.
But of course the shipping costs are a killer.
However, I can make you this offer: Have an 85 GT with the light grey interior (unfortunately no rear speakers in the "B" pillars). If you come take them out carefully, hence they wouldn't have any damage, they are yours for free. All of the trim.

Check with Ashby at adfieros@aol.com. He can give you a good idea of the value. He's Don Hulse's partner.
The front fenders of the Indy and all Aero trim models is different from the regular coupes. It has provisions for attaching the ground effects. So does the rear quarter. Be sure that's what you're getting. Also, the fenderwell liners of the aero trim are different and I think that's what you're seeing. If you're speaking of the flexible liners between the wheels and the engine compartment, Rodney Dickman sells them. They're in the Fiero Exterior section.
Something that large can usually be shipped on Greyhound or Trailways for much cheaper than UPS or FedEx. I'd certainly get some high res pictures of each piece before purchasing from that far away. Also, check with The Don. I believe he's going to be pulling aero panels from an 85GT. Wrong color, but closer and a club member gets the proceeds.
And I see he just posted to that effect.
-
Beat ya to it Charlie ;D
Just bartered one set of GT quarter panels with jwrape for another set of tinted tail lights.
The other set is going on the Purple Haze, unless Shanine changes her mind again and doesn't want a GT rebody.
In that case, I'd have a complete GT set, i.e. fenders, door skins, 1/4 panels and a rear fascia, all with ground effects. No nose though.
But as Charlie mentioned, they are the original red. But you had planned on doing a lot of sanding anyways, right? ;D
I'll ask Shanine, if she doesn't want them, we can talk
\D

In about two weeks I'll have a portable compressor, spray-guns, airbrush-guns and everything else you need to paint a car.
I also recall you inquiring about a welder. I've also got one of those, but it's not really portable, but you can use it if you come to my loading dock in Norcross. Guess it just depends on how long you need it. You can spend an entire day on my dock to do your welding.
Offers stand

....
aero nose black with smooth moldings
Careful... The Indy has ribbed moldings. The aero noses with smooth moldings only came on the 86-88 GTs.
They can be adapted, but it's not as simple as bolting it on. I think that part of the molded trim has to be removed with a knife.

That's why he's replacing the nose, so he won't have to trim the Indy parts. The bumpers are the only thing with molded in moldings - the rest of the car they bolt on. (Actually the late aero noses have the bolt-on spear tip of the moldings too).

Yea I want smooth moldings... I plan to do the moldings white in the end like the track version in pics.... figure smooth will flow better painted plus it will keep the original indy pieces black. I did not say but all the fenders and quarters have the gfx attached so they are the aero version.
I have spoken to the guy again and he is doing a price w/o the bumper and fenders to see how it comes out. He has a local buyer for the bumper... just hate it... the fenders are already white.... grr.
Don... I don't mind red.... I have a red hood.... lol.... ill take the pillars from you... im sure they are too big for shipping
Greyhound shipping is out... he lives too far...
Thanks you guys....
Ill tell him to verify the wheel splash guards and forget the pillars....

You say all the trim pieces.... just the pillars or the others I mentioned as well?
All the light grey trim on the inside: 4 pillars and 2 door jambs
Might have other things you need

Shannon is actively working on her upgrades, so go ahead and let her have the rocker panels.
-
That's sweet of you, but I'm not gonna steal someone else's parts!
-
The Yellow 86SE isn't being worked on and probably won't be for a while. Right now, I have to direct my attention and money at the Lil Duke Coupe so it can be roadworthy if any member needs it. I need to get a set of tires and do some cosmetics on it. So, the 86 will sit. Go ahead and get the rocker panels from Don. I know where there's another set when the time comes.
-
CHARLIE,
Maybe we should have a repair day at your house to fix the club car.
After we fix the other Fiero next weekend.
-
The car is running fine. The tires on it are somewhere between 7 and 10 years old and very hard and dry rotted. I had a flat on one, so the spare is on. I need to get another set of tires before it can go anywhere.
Roger and I replaced the rear brake pads and I have front ones to be installed. Headliner material has been purchased, just waiting to get tires to take it up to PurpleHaze (Shanine) so she can install it. Going to pick up a better dash from Whodeanie during the Overhaulin' project. Have rear speakers ready to install and some good seats. I have to work outside, so weather is a problem for me.
After the first of the year, I'll go down to a business near me and pick up some good used tires to go on it then we can move it around if anyone wants to do anything to it or use it.
-
Shanine will have a set of spare rims and almost brand new tires beginning of the year.
Stock Pontiac steel rims with chrome ring and 185/80/13 with about 98% tread on them.
If we don't get hit by snow, she'll be going to 235/14 on Fiero rims come January and if you think the 13 inchers would be OK for the club car, I'm sure she'll let you have them, or at least as a loaner until you get what you need/want for the car.
\D
Ooops, sorry for the highjack! ;D
-
Thank you, Don and Shanine. There's a young man that Mel used to keep when he was little who has a tire store here in Winder. He has a warehouse full of used tires. Ray got a full set of Michelins to go on his new wheels for just $140. I can get them cheaper. I'm going to stay with the 14 inch since I have a pretty good set of the original rims that came on it. There's also a man who lives next door to my sister that manages a tire store in Athens who will sell me new take-offs for about $50 each. I haven't talked to him yet, but plan to ask him what he can do for club members.

What size tires does it need... I can check around locally and see what I can come up with... Patty is a gold mine when it comes to craigs list... LOL! Maybe if I'm lucky something can be found before our overhaulin' and I can bring them with me...
FYI... I have a huge attached garage that is not heated, but stays pretty darn warm with the door closed and a space heater... Let me know if you want to use it to beat the cold once its mobile...

Seriously... wow... rubbing hands together... LOL! You are the MAN! The HVAC... I need the one that does not have the Aux gauges... need this one...

I went in the attic to see what I actually had for the indy that was real indy... ok wow... alot less then I thought! LOL! I found my old indy stuff, I forgot how bad it really was... scratched, worn, cracked or broke... Seems the bezel pieces I covered with the carbon fiber applique were actually the ones from my buddies fiero he parted out... they were the incorrect finish for the indy anyway...
got a line on the dash bezel, overhead light console, and radio surround bezel from an indy... need the shifter bezel though... he wants $35 (+ $11 shipping) What yah think? I asked for more pics...

and I can't find my darn stock airbox. I have the duct and the rubber gasket that goes to the body, but no box. Anyone have a pic of the box part... maybe I mixed it in with my other car parts...
Do you guys think Dean might have a nose or 2? Maybe some fenders if Shanie wants the ones Don has for her GT conversion?
And I got to thinking... I don't really even need a Aero nose with a smooth moldings... I can convert the ribbed to smooth, I just don't want to cut the original Indy bumper to convert over.... lol I'm gonna have a whole INDY body in the attic before its said and done... LOL!
-
$35 and $11 shipping is a good price. I paid more than that for those pieces at pullapart. If you have a nose with ribbed molding, you can fill it to make it smooth. Body filler works well according to some articles I've read on PFF.
As for the tires on the Lil Duke Coupe, the stock size was 185/75/14. I usually go up one size when I replace tires. I may even go to a 70 series of comparable height just so it doesn't look like it's running around on rollerblades. I can get good used tires for anywhere from $25 and up and take-offs where someone put custom wheels on a new car, for about $50 each. If Patty can beat that, I'd jump at them. Let me know. Once I have tires on it, I may take you up on the garage offer, though you're well on the other side of Atlanta from me. Maybe we could swap work. I help you and you help me.
-
Sounds good... I will see what she can find... My front tires... they are about 50% worn we got both for $60 and they are 18s... local tire stores wanted 100 plus for used.
-
Seriously... wow... rubbing hands together... LOL! You are the MAN! .....
I know ;D
The HVAC... I need the one that does not have the Aux gauges... need this one...

..... Maybe some fenders if Shanie wants the ones Don has for her GT conversion?........
Gottcha coverd, PM sent ;D

If the surround doesn't have to be good, I have a baaaad one you can have. Would take a lot of work to repair, so I'm just going to chunk it. It's yours if you want.
-
those bezels pictured are they what a indy came with if so what color are they?
-

They are like a light brushed silver color. Probably came in all the dove grey cars. I have a gauge bezel from an 86 and it is more of a darker pewter brushed silver

how bad is bad... LOL!
Mine was pulling away at the sides and the PO used silicone to fill the gap between it and the radio bezel... I spent so many hours picking and pulling to save that darn thing. Then I glued and clamped the rubber back into place. Thats the one in the car now... If its just pulling away... I can fix that... if its discolored or tore... not a big deal as I will use it as a donor to have russ88 recover. If its going to die a dumpster death anyway I can atleast try to save it... :D thank you!
If the framework is broken where it won't attach... thats not good... don't think I could fix that.
-
For what it's worth, I have about 5 HVAC/Radio surrounds, ALL in great shape, no work needed, and if, then only minor
Same goes for the shift surrounds
\D
-
Holy smokes! You collecting those things?? lol!
I have 2 shifter surrounds both with broken plastic on the attic... the indys and the parts cars... I hade to find a good one at pull-a-part.
-
Mine's separated badly, no tears, but on the right side the tabs for the radio mounts are broken off.
-
Holy smokes! You collecting those things?? lol!
Only reason I have all of them is because I'm swapping all our Fieros to the GT AUX gauges, hence I needed the surrounds with the cut-out.
Just things I keep, as they usually start looking bad after a while, and you never can find one when you need one ;D
One person's trash is another person's treasure, eh?
\D
-
not trying to chg the thread but does any one know what the bezels with the kind of blueish cast to it came out of?
-

Do you mean the one behind the dash?
Got one of those too ;D

Do you mean sort of like carbon?
88 notchies and Formulas with the grey interior had those
\D
-
no i'm not talking about the dot matrix thats what the 88 gt and formula have. these look just like the normal brushed aluminum except they have a kinda blueish/purpleish cast to them. just like some of the tan interior cars have a kind of goldish hue to them.
-
Ah, I think you mean the bezels in the base coupes, all except 84s, they were black
And I think they were silverish when new, but the age turns them sort of bluish over time.
I could be wrong, but usually when I think I'm wrong, I turn out to be in err ;D
\D
-

The one out of joes 86 parts car was a blue grey pewter color... mine were the light grey ones if I remember right...

Redraif,
Got two silver doorskins with GFX and two door-handles/armrests as of today.
Let me know if Ashby got a hold of you yet; if not, I'll hang on to them if you wnat them.

I need to verify in the attic to be sure 100% sure, but I should have a good set of silver door panels with GFX in the attic. The armrests I definitely need! :D I have not talked to Ashby yet. I will call him while I am at work tomorrow. We were running around like chicken with our heads cut off today! :D
Thank you Thank you for the parts today! I also got the red indy seat inserts from Paul today and some 5inch wing stands!

LOL... could have been 2 rights... LOL! I needed 2 pairs so just thought I would ask! :D
Talked to Ashby... he said he should go get the white car this weekend. I will get whatever panels are good off it. (think right fender is bad) So then I will get the right fender from either the silver or red ones that they have.
-
Forgot to update here... white car got junked before I could get any parts... darn cops... just one weekend more :(
So again with the needed panels. Ashby is looking and will get back w me on a price but if you all here of anything...
