« on: July 07, 2015, 02:13:54 pm »
If anyone is interested, I scanned my old IRM Quad 4 installation manual.
Pat has placed it in the Fiero Documents section. Thanks Pat!
(Lots of other good stuff out there, too.)

This has become one of my favorite car shows to attend. It's on a grassy field, and it's very laid back.
Lots of food, drinks, vendors, and interesting cars. Convenient "facilities" are provided.
Usually, they will leave us enough room to set up a pop-up canopy, or whatever.

I plan on entering two cars (if my 4.9's clutch hangs on that long.)

Here's a link to the previous show(s). Lots of pictures.

Edit - The live music, I'm told, will be a pleasant surprise. All I'm going to say. ;)

Like the title says...
I'm accustomed to doing 88 stuff. I'm still learning about the earlier cars.

Can anyone recommend a good source for the earlier calipers (and Wagner Thermoquiet pads, too, if they're available.)
Obviously, I'm leaning towards the usual parts store pieces, but if someone has had a particular good (or bad) experience, I'd appreciate the info.
Does anyone buy just the pistons and kit and rebuild their own? (It almost doesn't seem worth it, except that I want to get away from the plastic/phenolic pistons.)
Only need fronts, right now. Got one that wants to drag a little.

Thanks.

The Market / Wanted - Dark brown radio-heater pod / surround.
« on: May 14, 2015, 05:40:54 pm »
As the title says, I'm looking for a good condition radio/heater pod housing, in dark brown. I need the one without the aux gauge panel cutout.
Going in an 84 if that matters.

Looking for the plastic pocket/tray that screws to the inside of the console door. Would prefer tan, but gray is okay. Good condition is more important.
Also need a door latch for the aftermarket glove box that Fiero Store used to sell.

Need the latch and hardware (think there's a pin and a spring) for this style glove box.

Club News / Updated: Don Hulse
« on: March 31, 2015, 10:25:26 pm »
It pains me to report that Don (AeroDonamic) went into hospice care, earlier today.
If anyone would care to visit, he is in Tranquility At Cobb. It's behind the Wellstar Cobb Hospital on Austell Rd at the East West Connector. Visiting hours are unrestricted.
I visited with him for a while, this evening, but he was not awake.

I don't really know anything more, but if anyone wants to contact me, I can be reached at seven-seventy--threesixtyone--seventynine-sixtyeight. Between 8 AM and 10 PM please. (If you call during working hours, and I don't answer, it's because I'm in the middle of something. Please leave a message on the voicemail.)
Or email at raydarfieroatcomcastdotnet.

Here's a picture of Don at the 30th.

The Market / Automoda convertible for sale.
« on: February 24, 2015, 06:17:49 pm »
Several of you have seen this car.

The back story is, a friend of mine bought this from a sometime/former club member about a year ago. It quit on him while he was driving it home. Started blowing fuel pump fuses.
He dragged it to his work place with the intent of fixing it, when he had the time and money. I even offered to help him with it, but he was always busy with work.
He eventually got one of the mechanics at his work to replace the pump, but could never get it to start or run, afterwards.
He got tired of towing the car around and needed money worse than he needed the car. He called me up and made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I had it towed home.

It now starts and runs. It has new Rodney Dickman master and slave clutch cylinders.
The brakes have been bled and work properly.
All it needs is an exhaust header, some minor trim work, maybe a carb clean/rebuild, and an oil change for the engine and tranny, to make it completely driveable.

Why am I selling it?
I really don't care anything about having a droptop. As I mentioned, I bought it to help out a friend, and it just doesn't speak to my soul.

So... what's the deal?
I would really like to sell this car as a roller.
I would like to keep the drivetrain and put it in something else. I am asking $3500 for the car, without the drivetrain. Keep in mind that the Automoda kit was nearly that much, just by itself. And try to find one, today.

The car itself has less than 20K on the odo, and looks it. Everything in the interior that is not covered in leather is covered in carpet. It's really quite nice. The car is not perfect, but it's nice.

I had thought about putting a different engine in it (a 3.4 or a 4.9, maybe. It would make the perfect cruising car.) But I figured that would put it out of more peoples' reach, and an engine choice can be a very personal (sometimes polarizing) thing, anyway.

I will sell it, like it sits, with the drivetrain, for $5500. It'll be more if I replace the header. (That price is because I really want to keep the engine, but if I'm offered that, I'll take it.)

I've mentioned this to a couple of people on Pennocks, but one guy just wants it to part out, and the other guy's wife "shot him the look" when he mentioned getting another Fiero.
I'd really rather that someone in our club got it, anyway. If you want to buy it and part it out, please just don't tell me about it. It's way too nice for that.

I will also consider a trade for an 88. (Both cars as "rollers".) Must be in very good condition, as far as body and interior. Engine can be toast. Would prefer a manual.

I can take pics of anything about the car, by request. Just let me know.
Lots more pics (and more history) in this thread...

Thanks.

General Fiero Discussion / Finally got my A/C rebuilt and working.
« on: October 05, 2014, 10:18:25 pm »
...just in time for winter.
This is new territory for me.
Since the Caddy compressor died a slow death, and the system had been repaired and patched "piecemeal" since the 4.9 was swapped in, I decided to start from square one, to eliminate the possibility of contaminating a new compressor.
I disassembled and flushed the entire system, including the condenser, evaporator, and all the lines.
Replaced all the O-rings with the exception of the one under the spare tire well. Examined that one, and there was no evidence of leakage, so I left it alone.
Found a brand new compressor that is supposed to be a replacement for the Cadillac 4.9 compressor. I lucked out in that it had a dummy plug that allowed the installation of a high pressure cutout switch, which is MISSING FROM ALL FIERO FACTORY SWAPS. The stock 4.9 compressor just has a blank casting that does not allow for the installation of any switches, as the Fiero compressor has.  Normally, this wouldn't be a big deal, right up until it is.  :o
Flushed everything with mineral spirits, and then lacquer thinner; then blew them out with compressed air.
So it's done. Cools nicely. I didn't bother measuring with the thermometer, since it's cool outside, but it's blowing colder than it has in a while.

If anyone has specific questions, please feel free to ask. Having never done this before, I researched this to a fare-the-well before and during the process.

The Market / Rodney Dickman V6 cat
« on: September 15, 2014, 10:32:57 pm »
Only has a couple of thousand miles on it. Was removed when I replaced my "cobbled together" exhaust system and had another system built.

Rodney's price for a shiny new one is $111. I'm asking $75 for one that's not quite as shiny but still perfectly fine. Or make me an offer. Mostly just want it gone.

Club News / JULY MEETING INFO - DIFFERENT LOCATION - PLEASE READ
« on: June 21, 2014, 07:57:22 pm »
All,
As we have discussed at previous meetings, the July meeting will be held at the Hot Summer Wheels Car and Motorcycle show in Villa Rica GA. The date is July 12th, from 10 AM until 4 PM.
This is the regular meeting date, the second Saturday of the month.
The show will be held at the Clinton Nature Preserve in Douglas County.

Directions:
From Atlanta, take I-20 west bound to Post Road. Turn left (south) and go about a mile. Turn right onto Ephesus Church Road. Go about 1.5 miles, and look for Clinton Park on the right. Go a hundred yards or so down the entrance road, and turn left toward the registration area. There should be people pointing the way.

Here is the event info page, including online registration.

Here is the event page on Facebook.
http://www.facebook.com/HotSummerWheelsShowAndShine

Registration is $20 per car. There will be prizes and trophies.
There is a special 50/50 prize with half going to an individual, and half going to the club with the largest turnout. (Nudge, nudge.)

Here is a JPG of the flyer/registration form. (You can also register online or on the day of the show.)

There will be room to set up chairs or even an EZ-up (awning) if desired.
GREAT barbecue, and other great food and refreshments will be available.
Live music and a very laid back, relaxing atmosphere are both a part of this show.
Very nice playground facilities are available for the kids.
The park is also "dog friendly". (Please clean up after your pet, of course.)

All proceeds go to benefit Boy Scout Troop 39.

If I've missed anything, Scoutdad (Bo) will probably hop in and remind me.

Thanks!

Please call me or message me. I didn't get your phone number.
I had a short conversation with "the guru". I have a little bit of info about your car.

(Sorry. I've been a bit preoccupied. I have a sick wife.)

As the subject says... The dark gray / black caps that cover the tail light screws.
They are in the panel above the tail lights.
I need at least one, but wouldn't mind having a spare or three.
(I had a taillight screw that was not threaded properly, and backed out, knocking the plug out.)

Thanks!
Steve

The Market / 12" Corvette brake kit for 88s.
« on: April 07, 2014, 09:02:14 pm »
I have the 12" brake kit for 88s only.
It's pretty much a bolt-on. Uses the C4 rotors with stock 88 calipers and pads.
It includes the new style "dog bone" shaped brackets, that place the caliper in pretty much the same location as stock, only out further to accommodate the larger disks.
Also includes the old style "offset" brackets. (Not very useful, IMHO, but they're there.)
Includes four already drilled rotors, four centering rings, and the two complete sets of brackets and all mounting hardware.
You shouldn't need anything else. Just bolt it on.

I believe that it will NOT work with stock 15" wheels. Probably will require at least 16s.

The ONLY "gotcha" that I know of is that on some lowered 88s, the tip of the lower control arm will scrape the back of the rotor. The tip of the LCA may need to be ground or hammered for clearance.

I was going to install this kit on my car, but was made an offer I could not refuse, on the 13" kit.
Price is $350 for everything.

Edit - I remember hearing that the two types of brackets could be "stacked" in order to allow the installation of 13" Viper rotors. I've never seen it done, however. YMMV.

General Discussion / Log in "Forever"?
« on: February 24, 2014, 06:57:08 pm »
This option seems to not be working. Or at least not working correctly.
Whenever I access the main forum page, the login boxes are empty, and it shows me logged on as "guest".
(I also noticed this when I was helping Don get logged in (or attempting to "stay" logged in.)

Having said that...
Just now, when I accessed the "General Discussion" section, it suddenly said "Hello Raydar". I did NOT log in.
Maybe it recognized that I was going to complain...
