General Fiero Discussion / tires, tires, tires
« on: April 27, 2017, 05:45:35 pm »

My '87 GT had Falken 225/45R17's in front and 245/40R18 in back.  I liked the car's stance.  8)

My '88 GT has Kelly Charger GT 205/60R15 in front and 215/60R15 in back with original gold lace wheels.  I don't like the stance as much.  :-\

Will any changes need to be made to my '88, other than tires & rims, if I find a perfect match to my '87 while surfing Craigslist? I know the speedometer might be off a bit, but other than that?

Will tires and rims from any vehicle other than new VW Beetles and Subarus fit the Fiero bolt pattern?

Club Events / Power Kruise
« on: April 19, 2017, 10:46:52 pm »

Not really a club event, but this is an event:
http://kiokee.org/event/kiokee-kruisers-spring-2017-cruise-in/

Includes a Police Escorted Power Cruise!

At their Fall event my '88 was one of the newest cars there, and with the least HP.

Not huge, but fun.

General Fiero Discussion / tire pressure changes
« on: March 22, 2017, 12:26:46 pm »

While reading the latest issue of Fiero Focus I learned Pontiac changed tire pressure and the V6's HP (140 to 135 HP) in '87s & '88s  to meet noise mandates.

What was the original recommended tire pressure?  FYI, 30 psi on my '88 GT.

General Fiero Discussion / Driving w/o a deck
« on: March 06, 2017, 06:52:03 pm »

Fierofolk, I've read more than once that a Fiero can be driven without the fiberglass panels attached.
Does this include the entire deck or just the panel covering the deck?
The entire hood, or just the panel?

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Valve Stem Seals
« on: February 22, 2017, 11:46:09 am »

How far down should the valve stem seal go over the base of the valve stem?

The seal is shaped like a cap, and the stem base looks like the seal should go right over it all the way down to the cylinder head.

From experience I can tell you the seal does not slide all the way over the base and touch the bottom of the cylinder head.

General Fiero Discussion / Run Flat Tires
« on: February 04, 2017, 07:59:54 am »

Anyone have run flats on their Fiero?

Do you like them?

Would you get them again?

Any other comments?

The Market / Valve Cover bolts
« on: January 30, 2017, 12:29:57 pm »

I am in need of one of the strange bolts that holds down the 2.8L Valve Covers (These things: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqiIfeL8iBo).

All I need are the bolts with the weird cover that slides on the bolt.  Not the Valve Cover themselves.

Please PM me if you have a few to spare.

BTW, already tried Pullapart.  Plenty of 3.1s, 3.4s, 3800s, and a few Northstars.  Nothing for our 2.8s.

General Fiero Discussion / Valve Stem Seal Replacement
« on: January 23, 2017, 07:14:00 pm »

I'm preparing to replace the valve stem seals on my 1988 2.8L.  The Haynes Manual on page 77 Section 4, step 6 says to:
...bring the piston of the affected cylinder to just before TDC on the compression stroke.  Feed in a long piece of 1/4 inch cord through the spark plug hole until it fills the combustion chamber. <snip> Rotate the crankshaft with a wrench (clockwise) until a slight resistance is felt.

I have two questions:
1) How long is a long piece of 1/4 inch cord?  I managed to feed in 11' - Yes, 11 FEET.   That seems a bit much.  Are we talking 1', 2', 5'????

2) How do I know I'm at just before TDC on the compression stroke and how much more should I turn the engine after feeding in the cord?

Guess that was three questions.

General Fiero Discussion / Electronic nannies
« on: November 22, 2016, 12:20:10 pm »

First, let me say I'm a big fan of anti-lock brakes.  They stop better in wet conditions than I've ever been able to do pumping my brakes.  But I'm not a big fan of other electronic gadgets being put on cars.

These other gadgets don't seem to help much.  My 2011 Mustang (manual) has traction control, but my tires spin if I'm at a stop sign and the road is slightly wet.

Does anyone recommend any electronic gadgets they would put on their Fiero (See how I made this thread Fiero related)  if price was not a consideration?
Would you leave them off a new car?

General Fiero Discussion / What is your Dream Fiero?
« on: November 07, 2016, 01:16:36 pm »

The title says it all:  If money was no object, what would be your dream Fiero?

An '88 with a V8?
A convertible?
The one sitting in your garage?

Feel free to get carried away...
