Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Click-Click-Click
« on: May 02, 2015, 03:15:47 pm »

When I turn my car on it sometimes makes a clicking noise, like a blinker, then goes off after a few seconds.  The longest the sound ever lasted was after the Dublin parade, when it continued for several minutes.

The noise is not from the engine, sounds like driver's side of the passenger compartment.

Is this my keyless entry acting up or some other Fiero feature?

General Fiero Discussion / I've been rejected and I'm Happy!
« on: May 01, 2015, 07:31:06 pm »
Howdy Folks,

I submitted an article to a Corvette Magazine comparing the mid-engine Fiero to the 1984 -1988 Corvette.  Here's my edited rejection letter:

<snip>
This is an informative and well-written article, and if I were editing a more broadly targeted publication, I'd likely be interested in publishing it. Unfortunately, it has been my experience that our readership, while fanatically devoted to the Corvette and all it stands for, has very little (which is to say zero) interest in anything that falls outside that niche. (My predecessor even received nasty notes for penning a few complimentary lines about the similarly priced Cadillac CTS-V coupe a few years back.)

That said, if you decide to write any Corvette-specific articles in the future, I'd be happy to consider them, as we're always keen to expand our roster of contributors. In the meantime, I suggest you contact some of the print and online outlets that cater to automotive fans of all stripes, as there's a good chance one of them may be interested in the piece.
</snip>

FYI, here's my article's opening:
General Motors produced over half a million fiberglass two-seaters from 1984-88.  Only a third had V-8s. The rest were four and six cylinder Pontiac Fieros selling for far less than Chevrolet's Corvette.  Although the Fiero was never a performance threat to its stepbrother, it possessed something many Corvette faithful desire: a mid-engine design.

My question to y'all is this: What are some of the "print and online outlets that cater to automotive fans of all stripes" that might be interested in such a submission?

Anyone?

Bueller?

Anyone?

General Fiero Discussion / Us and Them (non-Fiero people)
« on: March 24, 2015, 07:41:32 pm »

Howdy Folks,
The other day I decided to adjust the headlights on my wife's Mustang (I've offered to get her a Fiero, specifically Radar's convertible, but no luck... yet  :))

My first step was to consult directions from the internet, which is usually more complete and a more comfortable environment to search than not finding directions in the owner's manual.  So I google'd and went here: http://themustangsource.com/forums/f726/how-adjust-headlights-non-hid-488885/

Basically, "they" said let the dealer do it or read your owners manual.  If the same question was asked on a Fiero Forum, an owner would provide step-by-step directions with 8X10 glossy prints and warnings about any gotchas.

I just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who makes our Fiero Forums such a great place.

General Fiero Discussion / Chipped Windshield
« on: March 19, 2015, 09:36:07 pm »

Fiero Gurus,

Received a chip in my windshield today.  The impact area is on the driver side outside my usual field of vision.   It's is a little smaller than a quarter, counting the splitting.

Should I try to get a new windshield or just a chip repair?

I've seen videos removing windshields which required saws...

General Discussion / Is 155HP enough?
« on: February 22, 2015, 03:31:45 pm »

Interesting article about the 2016 Miata.  I know our V6 Fieros only came with 140HP, but the same ideas apply.

General Discussion / Finding previous owners
« on: January 17, 2015, 08:23:14 pm »
Howdy folks and P.I. wanna-be's.  I'm trying to find the previous owners of my '88 GT.

* I know how to contact the guy I purchased it from,
* I know he got it off ebay in Texas from a dealer,
* I don't know how it got to Texas.

The only other owners name I have is:
Milta Gerena in Troy, NY.

I've snail mailed a letter to an address I found on the 'net and it came back Not Deliverable.

Any ideas?

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Shocks/Struts
« on: January 13, 2015, 10:09:13 pm »
Just replaced the front shocks on my '88 GT.  Now half the car feels great!

I'll replace the rear struts when the parts arrive.  Any advice or gotchas to look out for?

General Fiero Discussion / Princess Bride Fiero poster?
« on: January 02, 2015, 08:21:09 pm »
OK, just watched Princess Bride with my family and some friends.
Does Fred Savage have a Fiero Poster in his room?  Usually seen behind Columbo/Grandpa.
There's also a model behind Fred that may be a Fiero.

General Fiero Discussion / Fiero upgrades
« on: November 13, 2014, 05:36:57 pm »
Howdy All,

I'm sitting back and dreaming about potential upgrades for my '88 Fiero (V6, 5-speed) starting some time around August.  This means I have time to think.

I need to replace the shocks/struts soon but I'm also thinking about engine and brake changes.  It would be great if all these changes worked together to make an even better car.

First topic, any suggestions on shock/strut replacements?  I'd eventually like to have larger wheels in the rear than in the front.  Both sets will eventually be replaced by run-flats and be bigger than the ones I have now.  Any gotchas I should be aware of?  Any experiences to share?  Any brands to use or avoid?

Second topic, can the standard 2.8L be jazzed up?  I mean this in both HP/performance and appearance.  The base engine doesn't have the WOW  :o factor such a beautiful car deserves.  Wouldn't mind ending up with around 200 HP / 200 torque.  Performance isn't bad now, but it should be better than my '96 Sunfire's which did 0-60 in 7.9 seconds.

That's all for now.  Thanks in advance for your responses.
