General Fiero Discussion / Fiero upgrades
« on: November 13, 2014, 05:36:57 pm »
Howdy All,

I'm sitting back and dreaming about potential upgrades for my '88 Fiero (V6, 5-speed) starting some time around August.  This means I have time to think.

I need to replace the shocks/struts soon but I'm also thinking about engine and brake changes.  It would be great if all these changes worked together to make an even better car.

First topic, any suggestions on shock/strut replacements?  I'd eventually like to have larger wheels in the rear than in the front.  Both sets will eventually be replaced by run-flats and be bigger than the ones I have now.  Any gotchas I should be aware of?  Any experiences to share?  Any brands to use or avoid?

Second topic, can the standard 2.8L be jazzed up?  I mean this in both HP/performance and appearance.  The base engine doesn't have the WOW  :o factor such a beautiful car deserves.  Wouldn't mind ending up with around 200 HP / 200 torque.  Performance isn't bad now, but it should be better than my '96 Sunfire's which did 0-60 in 7.9 seconds.

That's all for now.  Thanks in advance for your responses.

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Oil leak near driver's side rear
« on: September 27, 2014, 05:32:13 pm »
There I was trying to remove my speed sensor so I could replace the o-ring when I noticed a puddle of oil above it on the engine.  Makes me think the 0-ring is not the problem. So now I have three questions:
1. How do I pull out the speed sensor?  Haynes made it sound like it would just lift out.
2. Where is my oil leak coming from?
3. How do I fix it?

BTW, '88 GT manual transmission.

General Fiero Discussion / What would you expect from a new Fiero?
« on: September 06, 2014, 07:20:24 pm »
Great CSRA Fiero Club meeting today at Cars & Coffee. We had TWO Fieros and THREE Fiero owners, That's double and triple the usual amount.

During the meeting we discussed what a new Fiero would look like. To include more folks I've decided to move this on-line discussion to the GA Fiero Club website. Have fun posting.

General Discussion / Old car brochures

Saw ads for an '84 and an '86.  http://www.lov2xlr8.no/pontiac.html

YOUR FIRST CAR

Thought you might enjoy seeing your first car ad.  This is really cool. Find your first car or the one you drove to high school or college; hopefully your car brochure is available. This has to be one of the neatest web sites whether you have gasoline in your veins or not. This is a website featuring the original factory brochures for nearly every American car you have ever owned. Pick the manufacturer, the year and the model.

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Slow acceleration. Fuel Filter?
« on: August 19, 2014, 07:15:37 pm »
My '88 GT feels like its restrained (5-speed).  Works well in city traffic, but does 0-60 in about a minute.

Could the fuel filter be the problem?
Any other ideas?

Any tips on changing the fuel filter?

Thanks.

General Fiero Discussion / New to me 88
« on: June 21, 2014, 04:09:01 pm »
Howdy All,

I have a new to me 1988 Fiero GT, 5 Speed, almost 58,000 miles.  So far I've vacuumed a Jack-o-lope (The car came from NY, via Texas and Atlanta) out of the AC Blower Motor and had an emergency distributor replacement.  The condition of the AC Blower Motor and the corrosion on the distributor make me think the car is due for a good cleaning.  Is there any information out there, or suggestions, on where to start?

Thanks

General Fiero Discussion / Build Sheet
« on: May 03, 2014, 07:46:56 pm »
Howdy Folks,

Is there a way to recover the build sheet for a Fiero?  How was it originally equipped?

Did all 1988 GT's come with the "improved" handling?

Thanks,

Paul
