The Market / Wanted: 88 space frame. Back 1/3.
« on: January 16, 2021, 03:58:57 pm »
Now that I finally have a garage, I'm looking for the back portion of an 88 space frame. From the firewall back. Needs to include the firewall, hinge boxes, front and rear cradle mounting points, shock towers, and trunk wall. Hopefully, the trunk as well. I don't care about the battery box, as long as the structural metal is still there.
The only requirements are that the car is already completely disassembled, and that there is no structural rust. (Have sawzall will travel. :D )
Help with cutting and loading will be appreciated.

General Discussion / Little known facts about penguins
« on: January 13, 2021, 09:34:36 pm »
Did you ever wonder why there are no dead penguins on the ice in Antarctica – where do they go? Wonder no more!! It is a known fact that the penguin is a very ritualistic bird which lives an extremely ordered and complex life. The penguin is very committed to its family and will mate for life, as well as maintain a form of compassionate contact with its offspring throughout its life.

If a penguin is found dead on the ice surface, other members of the family and social circle have been known to dig holes in the ice, using their vestigial wings and beaks, until the hole is deep enough for the dead bird to be rolled into, and buried. The male penguins then gather in a circle around the fresh grave and sing:

"Freeze a jolly good fellow." "Freeze a jolly good fellow." Then, they kick him in the ice hole.

General Discussion / Winter Solstice
« on: December 21, 2020, 09:54:42 am »
So... Normally, winter doesn't bother me so much. But the older I get, the more that changes.
Today is the Winter Solstice. It's 4 days until Christmas, The "Christmas Star" will appear this evening, in the form of a conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn.
Although it is officially the first day of winter, and the day with the shortest period of daylight, the days will now start getting "longer".
Come on, Spring!

The Market / Wanted: White notchie decklid with no holes and good paint.
« on: November 27, 2020, 09:16:14 pm »
As the title said... I'm looking for a white notchback decklid for my 88 coupe. (Not sure if any of the earlier years had "different" shades of white or not.)
Please, decent paint, and no spoiler holes.
Possibly willing to trade a white 88 decklid with a wing. (Your choice of a white wing with "passable" paint, or a matte black wing that has been re-sprayed. Looks okay. Just didn't like it on the white car.)
Not in a huge hurry.

Thanks!

Lots of good info...
http://www.gafiero.org/bbs/index.php?topic=873.0

If the engine you're buying is one of the latest ones, I think it's worth 110-120 HP (I forget what the Wikipedia page said.)
But that's supposed to be attributable to the higher 5500 RPM redline. You might be able to squeeze a few more out of it with a cam swap or maybe a bit more flow through the intake. (All speculation on my part.) In any event, the Fiero bottom end is reputed to only be good for ~150(?) or so before reliability starts to be compromised, although the 87 and later cranks are supposed to be stronger than the earlier cranks, due to the DIS trigger wheel, among other things.
Keep in mind that this information is all speculation on my part, and is worth exactly what you paid for it. :D All kidding aside, Pat / TopNotch is probably the club expert on these engines.

General Discussion / Anyone know about small (4.6 KW) generator repair?
« on: November 01, 2020, 07:19:47 am »
Thursday afternoon, before the storm, I dragged an ancient generator out of the barn, and crossed my fingers.
Filled it with gas, and pulled the cord. Started on the first pull.
Unfortunately (after the lights went out, of course) as soon as I connected any load - which was only a few hundred watts - the magic smoke escaped. (Burning PVC, FTW!!)

Anybody know anything about replacing/rebuilding generator heads? The motor is fine, but the windings are "extra crispy".

The Market / Double DIN radio faceplates/bezels/mounting kit.
« on: October 31, 2020, 08:11:29 pm »
This is not mine, but I bought one. It's 3D printed, but quite nice. Some of the pieces will need to be epoxied together.
Available in black and "primer gray".

The Market / Anyone have a line on a white 87 SE? or GT?
« on: October 18, 2020, 02:08:44 pm »
I'm not even sure that a white SE exists.
I have seen lots of white 87 GTs and base coupes, but never an SE.

Anyway... I'm looking for one. Needs to be a 5 speed car with A/C. Working or not. No rust. Decent cosmetics. Prefer a V6 - running or not.

Club News / RIP Galaxy Diner

Found this posted on a FB group, this morning. (I've heard rumors that Kroger was going to annex the entire corner, to build a superstore.)

General Fiero Discussion / First pic from the "new place".
« on: June 01, 2020, 05:55:31 pm »
Many of you have endured the saga (ad nauseum) of our move from D-ville to "way out in the effin' country".
We're still getting settled, and still living out of boxes and bins.
But I finally got around to taking a pic from "the new place".

And one from another angle.

Most of you have seen this car. (The owner now apparently lives in Sandy Springs.)

General Fiero Discussion / Fiero Factory needs help
« on: April 04, 2020, 09:08:52 pm »
Many of you, who have been a part of the Fiero community for a while, are familiar with the Fiero Factory.
Jeremy has reached a bit of a "crossroads", and needs a not-so-small measure of help.
If you'd care to, please give this a quick look.

Thanks.

The Market / 86 GT(?) Free. Indoors. Lawrenceville area.
« on: October 27, 2019, 10:17:31 am »
I've seen way worse.
I posted "GT" because the seller mentioned a fastback clip, in the ad. But it appears to have grooved moldings, so who knows?
Edit - It's got a 4 cylinder tach, so it may be a 4 cylinder SE, or some sort of Frankenfiero.
(Images may expire in a couple of weeks. Linked from CL.)

General Discussion / John C., the Body Man
« on: July 17, 2019, 08:40:40 am »
Some of you were at the meeting, this past weekend, and heard the discussion regarding John C.'s hospitalization.
His procedure was performed Monday. (One carotid artery was 90+% blocked. The other was fine.)
I finally talked with him yesterday. He sounds like his old self. He hopes to be released today or tomorrow. We shall see.
I also told him he needs to quit burning the candle at both ends. He does that a lot.
