As the title says, I need a bezel for the trunk popper switch. (I have a switch. Just need the bezel.)
Would prefer one that also has the cutout for the rear defroster switch, but just the trunk popper bezel will work, too.

Thanks

Club News / Hot Summer Wheels is no more.
« on: May 15, 2016, 10:54:41 am »
I mentioned in the club meeting thread, that I haven't heard anything about the Hot Summer Wheels show, this year.
I asked Bo and, true enough, it appears that last year's show was indeed the last one.

Club News / Where is the May Cruise-In/Meet-n-Greet?
« on: May 05, 2016, 09:26:39 pm »
As the topic says...

Edit -
Since it would seem to be "West Georgia's" turn, I might suggest that we all "invade" the Golden City Cruisers Cruise-In at The Mill Amphitheater in Downtown Villa Rica. This is a regular "3rd Saturday" event.
The real "gotcha" with this, is that their show runs from 5 PM until 8 PM or so.
A contingent of Fieros could make a real statement, and possibly gather some support. (I know of at least one "outside" person who has participated in their shows. Has a nice yellow 88 GT. I have invited him to check us out, but I don't think he has.)
The Golden City Cruisers are a cool club. They have philanthropic aspirations, not unlike our own. They also have been our main competition, for club participation, at the Boy Scout Show that we have attended in July, the past couple of years.

Just a thought.

The Market / Looking for left side notchback tail light.
« on: May 01, 2016, 05:51:33 pm »
As the title says, I'm looking for a left side notchback tail light. Or even just a lens.
Dull and/or faded is okay, as long as there are no cracks or other damage. The one on my project car has a "displaced fracture" in the lens.

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / "Slammed" fastback tail light lenses.
« on: April 28, 2016, 09:37:48 pm »
Many of you have been following the drama on Pennock's, regarding the GT tail light covers.
I am happy to report that mine were on my porch when I got home from work, today.

They  seem to be very nice pieces. If the vendor can keep shipping them in a timely manner, they will likely be the most economical solution to the "fastback taillight" conundrum.

I took a couple of pics when I removed them from the packing. The quality is quite good. They are not as smooth as stock lenses, but they are vacuum formed over a mold. I don't see how they could get much better, given the circumstances. The lettering is "spot on" and very crisp. Better than the lenses that the Fiero Store was most recently selling.
(Images are linked from Pennock's. If the links break, I'll repost, here, and edit.)

I have a marginal set of lenses that will be the "victims" for these replacement lenses.
One is delaminated. The other has a hole/crack that makes it pretty ugly to look at.

I will post pics of the progress here, as I get time.
(Since these things were such a PITA to get, for reasons that I won't go into here, I don't feel compelled to share this info in the original Pennocks thread. I may, however, post a link to this thread at some point.)
Progress may be slow. This is not a huge priority for me to finish. The lights on my car are at least serviceable.

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Typical 88 Duke oil leak places?
« on: April 24, 2016, 05:25:05 pm »
I started poking around under the "project" today. The cradle, bottom of the trans and engine are pretty much a sludge pit.
It looks like it might be the crank seal on the "pulley end" of the engine, but there's lots of oil elsewhere, too. The pan bolts seem tight. Haven't tried the timing cover bolts yet, because the pulley is in the way, anyway. Looks like there are bolts behind it, too.
No noticeable oil on the back of the flywheel, so I have to believe the cam plug (cap?) is okay. The lifter access covers don't seem to be leaking, either.
The axle seals also appear to be fine.
The valve cover gasket will be changed. Just because.

It's been over ten years since I owned a Duke. Where are the "typical" places that leak? (This one has ~150K on the odo.)

Dropping the cradle is not really an option at this time. Can the pulley be removed with the engine and cradle in place? Or do I have to tilt the cradle?

Thanks!

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Headlight hinge question...
« on: April 02, 2016, 09:04:29 pm »
The lower/back half of the headlight hinge assembly - the part that is fastened to the bulkhead... Is it the same for all years? Or did it change when the headlights were redesigned in '87?

I have need of a right side piece. There is a "stop" of sorts, cast into the thing. The one I have is broken. Obviously, the search will be easier if they're all the same.

Thanks!

General Fiero Discussion / The Ghost In The Machine
« on: March 28, 2016, 05:14:44 pm »

It's an 88 Western Edition coupe. Comes with tilt, delay, and air, and not much else.
Has 153 K on the odo, and drives about like you'd expect a 150K base coupe to drive. (It pretty much wallows.)
The headlight motors need rebuilt, the parking brakes need adjustment, it has the usual "Duke drip", and the fuel pump sounds like a Cessna.
But it's mechanically quiet. No funny sounds. Clutch is good. Shifts like buttah!

Now the fun begins...

Looking at a silver GT. It's pretty much everything I want except it's not a notchback.
Anyone want to trade a complete silver notchback "azz end" for a complete silver fastback "azz end"?
This is just the upper clip, including the decklid, lights, and harness. Not including the bumpers.

Disclosure... One of the GT tail lights has a hole in it. Paint on the decklid and possibly the top of the clip is faded.

Don't have the car yet. Haven't even seen it in the flesh. Still thinking...

In the unlikely event that you are not familiar with Rodney's stuff, it's all "top shelf".

The Market / Looking for 88. See inside.
« on: October 27, 2015, 07:55:36 pm »
Requirements...
Must have clean title. No salvage or rebuilts.
Must be an A/C car, even if it's not working.
Must be a manual trans car.
Must be cosmetically decent. No body damage or fried paint. Nice interior would be a plus, but not a requirement.
Mechanicals... not too critical, as long as it's serviceable. High mileage is not a show stopper.
Wheels/rims/tires don't matter.
No rust. Prefer southern car. Within driving distance of ATL would even be better.

Preference given to cars other than bright red. (Yeah... I know. But it's not a show stopper.)

I don't care what engine it has, or whether it runs. It's for a swap. (Of course, a driveable car would be preferable. Duh. But again, it's not a requirement.)

General Fiero Discussion / 88 GT on eBay... WTH?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pontiac-Fiero-GT-/291548757990?forcerrptr=true&hash=item43e1a8ffe6&item=291548757990

From the text...
"I have owned this car for over 3 years now, always garaged and driven regularly, but never in bad weather.
The previous owner was the President of the Georgia Fiero Club, who kept the car in top condition."

News to me, but whatever.

But... $12,500?! The guy is delusional.
