I would like to see the fuel tank saved as there no other unit in the GM line that will cross over . And the sending unit same story. ED Parks was using Astro Van sending units but I dont know how much modification is necessary. I will bid 25.00 on the rear deck lid .aerodon

« on: August 21, 2014, 08:07:02 pm »
High my name is aerodon on the net , I installed that engine way back when and it was a very low milage  engine from a stolen & recovered Camaro. 80,000 sounds about right for milage. The car had set for apx. 5yrs. when Joe bought it. IT is good to see it going back into service, the 3600 is a very good swap good luck on your project.

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Door Hinge Tool
« on: July 28, 2014, 09:41:17 am »
If you have replaced a lower door hinge spring you will need this tool. It is available at NAPA @22.50$ I also found that it will work on the spring on the rear brake cam. This is the spring on 84-87 calipers. I have not tried it on an 88. I also found the tool at Harbor Freight for apx. 9.00$.

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Front Battery Swap
« on: July 18, 2014, 04:44:33 am »
I have done this swap and  it is ok with the 7/8 inch. sway bar, but you will find it  is a tight fit  if you change to a 1inch sway bar. You must mount the box a high as is possible to not hit the bar. You will have to move your brake line down also . This is pertaining to 84-67 cars only, as the 88s have a 1.8 inch bar up front and I have not tried this swap on an 88. If you have relocated an 88 please put some info on here. aerodon.

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Re: oil?
« on: July 02, 2014, 11:18:42 pm »
Ihave been using Castrol 15-40 for 20yrs in every Fiero Ihave owned the only exception was my first Fiero as it had the 4cyl. engine with a roller camshaft stock. Crane and Melling cams require this oil to recieve warrenty on new cams. Also Dello 400, and Rotella -T are suggested but the zink content is highest in Castrol. ! currenty have over 100.ooo miles on my 3.4 and Darrell har a little over 31.000 on a 3.4  oil pressure just checked last on both cars before changing the oil sending units. aok . hope this helps you with the use of what oil is best. aerodon!!!

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Exhaust Crossover Bolts
« on: June 28, 2014, 08:20:37 am »
I have discovered that the best bolt to use is the upper plenum bolts , they are chrome plated and will not rust in place, they are the correct length thread and look good on the engine. Just make sure you have a good 10mm 12point socket to install them. Also use high temp never-sieze on the threads. Also they are case hardened and very hard to break. I have them on the last three 3.4 engines and have had no problem with them. Had to remove a set after a year, came right out. They are easy to get, from any V-6 Fiero . There are 10 on every plenum and you only need four. aerodon!!

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Guage Sending Unit
« on: June 24, 2014, 07:15:29 am »
A note to let you know that this particuler sending unit is not called a temp. sensor. At Auto  Zone it is listed as a Switch  I went to pick one up for the 88 we are working on, could not find it, until a senior employee typed in switch wala there it was, you might run into this problem at Advance  but I have not checked into that as yet!! aerodon.

I am also running the Bosche injecters, the have performed quite well. You can run them as Charley said at stock fuel pressure, there is no need for an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, witch can cost 118.95 from the Fiero Store. You can put that towards the cost of the injecters witch ran 160.00$ when I got mine apx.2 yrs. ago.
