Club News / Re: Run For The Hills 22 Information

Hey all,

So an update on the crash that was mentioned. It was involving my Fiero. The impact on my car was at an angle to my front driver side, so with the focus of impact being there, it bent the frame. Besides a few bruises and a few glass cuts from climbing over the center console to get out, neither of us were injured.

The other party is doing fine. She was released from the hospital the same day, and is at home and in good spirits.

My thanks to the folks who stuck around till the accident was all cleared up and helped with stashing belongings and offering up transportation throughout the rest of the run. Big thanks to CowsPatoot and FierFly for transportation back home.

I'm making the trip back out there this Saturday to Transport back the remains of the car. I've had more than a few questions about what my future plans are, and I haven't completely decided. Right now I'm leaning away from getting a replacement fun car, and focusing more on longer-term life plans.

As things with the situation are not finalized, and I was open to hearing feedback/opinion/testimony/accusations/support from everyone who was there over the weekend, I'd ask that we don't have any continuing discussion around the accident.

Do we buy raffle tickets in person on Friday or Saturday?

Thanks!

I'll take you up on sharing a room with you and gladly split the costs. I'll also cover your meals as a thank you. :)

Hey everyone,

Super late to the party here.
1) Time flies with my job. (I saw the post about this up on another forum, told CowsPatoot I was going to go... and then realized it was this upcoming week).

2) I still want to go.
2a) I quickly looked through the thread. I see some mentions of towns, the Red Roof in... but I didn't catch the following (and if I somehow missed this, I apologize):

2b) What is the name/address of the hotel in Clayton, GA. that we are meeting at? And I'm assuming it doesn't matter what time we show up Friday night? (I might be there pretty late)

2c) I read that the Red Roof Inn in Asheville is/will be filled up, and rates have doubled, can anyone confirm? Also, I'd like the address for that location (I have the TN# from page 3 for the group reservations )

3) Do we get a list of stops and time estimates ahead of time so I can program my GPS? I'm likely to wind up near the back of the pack (so I don't hold up people more daring than I am in corners), and if I miss a turn or something, I want to not lose you guys completely. That would suck.

Last minute caveat - parts are on the way to fix my belt tensioner issue this week. Right now, super aggressive shifts between 3rd and 4th throw the belt off. Which sucks. Especially since I do like going fast (in a relatively straight line with good distance visibility - yeah, I'm a quarter-mile guy, don't judge). :)

Looks like it was sold, some more info about it over on Pennocks. Now belongs to a guy in Virginia. Thanks guys!

Thank you sir!

I appreciate the leads and the feedback on the swap!

Hi Everyone,

This was brought to my attention on Craigslist - http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/3320306874.html
I noticed it had GA plates on it. Seems like a fair amount of work was done, does it belong to a member here?
Anyone know the history of it?

Sort of vetting it for a friend who's thinking about buying it, but lives in Wilmington (so about 4.5-5 hours from where the car is).

Thanks everyone!

With my novice-status at handling a manual through twisties, this run feels a little out of my depth. However Cowspatoot made a comment about wanting to drive my Fiero through it, so I might ride along.

If that pans out (and is not superseded by the conversion to EFI), then it'll be good to see you guys again!

Hi everyone! I figured I'd go ahead and join up here, too... mostly because it seems there are at least a handful of people that do not frequent other Fiero forums. ;)

So I figured my first post would be on the first things I've been able to do with the group! (yes it's a repost from another forum).

Fortunately it (apparently) wasn't serious.

Thankfully I had some cold water in the car to pour on it. It looked really ugly, and I had to keep it out of direct sunlight the whole ride home, or it hurt. I still have a mark from it, my medical-field-relatives told me it was probably going to scar, but that doesn't look like it'll be the case. Thank you Neosporin!

Thank you Alex, that might have been the difference between no break-downs and one breakdown. I really appreciate it. And a thank you to WhoDeanie for spotting it and helping me get it temporarily fixed.

Yeah... RFTH reminded me why I like going fast.... in a straight line. A few of the corners, even with my new sticky tires, I felt and heard the tires coming loose. One turn in particular, I was pacing the car in front of me, and saw how quickly he went into a turn without his breaks, so I figured "Okay, no problem." ... yeah, about 1/3 into the turn, I felt the back end start to "skip" sideways and the wheels chirp. I knew hitting the brakes would likely be a *very bad* idea, so I just eased up off the gas.

I also apologize to anyone I scared when doing my "rolling starts". I wasn't taking my speed into consideration and was using second when I should have been using 3rd, or 4th.

Overall, I had a great time, and am not opposed to going again in the future. Though I think I might take up the last position....  :) Who knows, now that my swaybars are (mostly) back together, that might make a difference in the corners next year.

It was great meeting you all, definitely had some interesting conversations, and saw some really impressive Fieros and some really nice mods... which I am debating on copying... just to be upfront about it.  ;)
