black 84 se for parts
« on: January 27, 2013, 11:07:56 pm »
Hi:) My name is sarah. I recently bought an 84 fiero for 400 bucks.
I then put a brand new clutch, brakes, rotors, fuel pump and battery. I seriously just dropped 3000 grand into this car, drove it 35 miles, only to find out it is not safe to drive nor is it fixable. The subframe broke due to rust. The interior is in excellent condition and all the panels on the exterior are free from dents.

This is the car that was on display at the museum/exhibit a year or so back.  If all else on the car is good except the frame, everything can be swapped over to another chassis.  One of our members has swapped 2 or 3 in just that manner.  He's carried the same body and interior parts to another good chassis.
There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

Hi Sarah,
I'm very sorry to here about your Fiero experience. This is a bit late for this time, but if you ever want to buy another Fiero, do this when you inspect it: Peel back a little of the carpet in the corner of the trunk. If you see any rust on the underlying metal, expect rust on the rest of the car's metal.
If you are not going to swap to another frame, as Fierofool suggested, consider selling the car parts individually instead of just selling the entire car for parts. For example, your seats look very good, and since it's an 84, they will be speaker seats, which many Fiero owners would like to have. Also, consider selling the parts on Ebay and/or Pennock's Fiero Forum, so you can reach a bigger audience.
The more complex the mind, the greater the need for the simplicity of play.
