Turbo 3.4 questions
« on: December 27, 2018, 08:04:46 pm »
My brother (who has my old red 86 SE) has a 3.4, and wants to turbo it and put it in his Fiero. He was asking if there is anyone who could program an EPROM for him. I suggested that he replace the stock ECM with a 7734, and then program that.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Have you/he checked with Ryan Gick?

That will be a major undertaking, but I'd like a ride when he gets it right.

In the early part of this century, we had a member with a turboed 85GT with otherwise stock 2.8.  He was using the 85GT ECM.  I rode with him coming back from Franklin, and it was no slouch.  I seem to remember he said it was about 190 HP.  It was his daily driver, too.  I have no idea who burned his chip.

3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

Was that Bill? Had the red 85 GT?
If I remember correctly, it also had a "piggyback tuner" that accommodated the changes that the turbo made. I talked with him a while back. He said he was having issues with it. Thought it was a MAP sensor. I've tried to contact him several times since then, with little success.

Nelson has a turbo'd 3.4 in one of his Meras. It certainly is no slouch. I'm not sure who did his chip, either.

I would be inclined to contact Ryan Gick, at Sinister Performance. (gmtuners.com)

That was Bill with the red 85GT.  I've kept his contact info and have tried to contact him through the years through email and phone without reply.

I didn't know that he had a piggyback system.  So he still has the car and is driving it?

He's hnthomps on Pennocks.  Also in the club email contact list, he's Nelson.

He still has the car. Is not currently driving it due to the MAP sensor issue. (His "daily" is a Passat, IIRC.)
