Headlight hinge question...

The lower/back half of the headlight hinge assembly - the part that is fastened to the bulkhead... Is it the same for all years? Or did it change when the headlights were redesigned in '87?

I have need of a right side piece. There is a "stop" of sorts, cast into the thing. The one I have is broken. Obviously, the search will be easier if they're all the same.

Pretty sure they're all the same.  As I recall, the only differences are the motors and the bolts that hold the motor.  A test would be to see if there's a screw hole to mount the Gen. 1 relay.  I have assemblies if you can't find one.

I don't know where that relay mounts on the earlier cars. Didn't pay attention when I had the 84.

Inboard just below the hinge bolt is a tab/flange.  The 87-88's have 2 square holes where a nylon insert fits to screw the relay mounting bracket on.  That says that all years are the same.  I've seen some indication that the lift arm may be a different lenght than Gen 1 but you have that if you need it.  I can bring a unit to the meeting if you can wait.

Charlie, I checked the travel of the arm. Everything seems to work properly. I do need the rear hinge bracket. The part that bolts to the bulkhead. Passenger side. The meeting will be fine.

I have a half-dozen or so out in my building.  Now that I've opened my mouth, I need to be sure there's a right side out there.  If so, a clutch replacement would be sufficient compensation.  ;)

I've got a replacement clutch. ;)
How about the Ram that came out of my 4.9. The lining is barely worn. The hub is a little bit "blued" from the rivets rubbing the flywheel dish, however. (All kidding aside, I almost put it back in.)

A piece of aluminum sheet, some epoxy, and a short length of rubber tubing has me in business, temporarily.
Still want to replace the bracket, but it's not nearly as urgent as it was last night. :D

Of the 7 assemblies I have, only one of them was the right side.  I have it out and will take it apart.  Do you need the hinge bolts, too?

All I need is the bracket. As I mentioned on the phone, I was able to ghetto-fab a stop that appears to be working okay. If you don't want to part with your last right side hinge, I understand. (Do you need it for the yellow car?)

I have a complete 87-88 conversion with harness, module, and headlight units with motors if I can't get something worked out with the flushmounts.  I'm going to check out the Cutlass Supreme headlamps and if they won't work as flushmounts, I may just abandon the fog lamps and install the Generation 2 system.

Check out the  "sort-of-flushmounts" on Pennocks. DoubleC4 (I think) is making/selling them.
They are fixed, like yours, but not completely smooth. They have little bumps for the lamps. The headlight units are projectors. Maybe even HIDs.
Quite nice. A bit spendy, however.

The hinge bracket worked perfectly, by the way. Thank you.
