Someone has a sense of humor

When I got home, there was an unfamiliar Fiero parked in front of my house.  It was a bumperpad.  It's for sale.  The guy said it's an '84, with the factory V8.  He opened the decklid, and behold--NO ENGINE!  Interesting.  So, I checked the front compartment, which looked fairly normal.  About then, he said he had to go, and he drove off...in that Fiero.

There is a motor in there, somewhere.  It was dark, but whatever motor was in there was not near the decklid.  I could hear a motor.  Whatever it was was certainly not factory, and likely not a V8.  What did I miss?

My story?  The Fiero did not appear to have an engine, but moved away under its own power.  I'm trying to figure out where the motor is.

Did you happen to look under the car to see if the driver's feet were providing motive power Flintstone style?

Sure.  I appreciate you bringing it to life.

No, I didn't think of that, but it would have been funny.  Maybe someone should try that at the shop, when they go in for inspection.  Just cardboard feet, of course.

Actually, I live on a hill, so it would roll down the hill.  In this case, he drove up the hill to the end of the court, turned around, and came back down.  At the bottom of this hill, the street makes a T, and one side goes up a smaller hill.  He went up that hill.

If it was electric, and the engine bay was empty, where'd he put the batteries?

He was visiting a neighbor, so I'm trying to find out.  I just didn't see what I expected to see.  It was dark, so I could only see the upper part of the engine compartment.

My expectation was a 4.9 "factory" V8.

If by "factory", you mean the former Fiero Factory, Tony AL, then it would indeed be a "factory V8".

Usually, when someone says "factory V8"  that's what they have--a 4.9 installed by TFF.

This particular Fiero apparently has a top speed of less than 60 MPH, and doesn't go very far.  The neighbor further says that the "engine sounds" are artificial, and that there is a V8 logo on the car.
