It lives!
« on: March 25, 2009, 09:35:47 pm »
ITS ALIVE! After the death of my Duke's piston rings and several months of work my '84 3800 conversion is complete, kept the 125c automatic in it for the conversion. Its actually been running awhile but I didnt want to post about it until Im sure it was going to stay that way.

Painted up and ready to go!

-_- Im not even going to comment on that pain......

Spectre racing intake, wanted to keep my cruise control though so I put it here. Would have put it in the quarter panel but the filter is stainless steel mesh and tends to let in more dust and dirt that typical, and I live on a dirt road.

Thrush Dual Weld muffler, custom tip, the entire exhaust was welded in my garage and put on so its not perfect, but doesnt sound half bad! The background voice would be my father.

Now that all thats been done and Im estimating about 17MPG, >.< my sending unit is fried and I have yet to put the new one in so it is a bit of an educated guess. Just some seals, a little interior work, a windshield, wheels, and a new coat of paint left to go! Thankfully Kirker just brought out their Carousel Red (Also known as Hugger Orange) ^_^

Current Paint:        Soon to be:
Omaha Orange        Hugger Orange
                           AKA Carousel Red

Once I think of how well this has gone I cant help but grin and look toward the other side of my yard where theres a grey car cover, the grin suddenly is covered by my hand hitting my face as I recall where half of my tax returns went:

Second 1984 Fiero and more spare parts than I probably need that I found on Ebay, it turned out to be less than a 15 minute drive. The owner wanted $500 for it, his wife said it had to go since he had dumped so much money into it, specifically the engine and transmission rebuild he had done (auto unfortunately) after seeing it I got him down quite a bit for just the car itself with all the new parts/spare, just no engine or trans. The extra parts being a replacement bumper, right fender, all new brakes, lines, calipers, rotors, wheels/tires,  and probably more things that I cant remember at the moment but it was a good deal, right now Im debating what to do with it though. Damage to the right side of the front end, specifically the bumper and fender, fender might be repairable with fiberglass, bad paint job, power door locks and windows, sunroof, solid deck lid panels, computer and wiring harness were included oddly enough.

Before I picked it up:

As a note, my family is a bunch of Ford fanatics. Now I dont find that to be a problem except the constant "Why is it you own a GM? 2 at that!" and after that several complaints about General Motors follows, 2 things tend to work pretty well in quieting this:

1. "Ok, point out an affordable, not TOO relatively difficult to find mid-engine rear wheel drive Ford and Ill think about it. Until then, back off.
2. "Do you not remember my FIRST car?"

The second one tends to work better. ^_^

Beautiful, and it sounds great.  Trying to get my wife to let me put one of those exhausts on her Grand Prix 4-door Sedan.

Bring it by the meeting next month.  Also, The Diner is having their first cruise'in on the 1st Saturday of April.  Probably will be some of us there, too.

You say you estimate you'll get about 17 MPG.  Is it stock?  My wife's GP gets near 30, and Derek of the ETFC just posted some phenomenal mileage on his modified 340HP 3800SC Formula.  He reports his mileage to be 1 set of rear tires to a tank of gas.

Just one question.  Why are you going to paint it such a dull color? ;D

Thanks!

I believe its due to the stock 125c automatic trans its hooked up to, no overdrive and the engine SHOULD be stock.

and the color? well I wanted a burnt orange orginally, which the Omaha was supposed to be, unfortunately its a bit bright for my taste now that its on there, I might toss some of the pearl we have into it when its being painted though.

just wondering how much horse power it has, also how many miles were on the motor and did you do anything to the motor (besides cleaning) before you installed it? looks like a very neat installation and sounds great.            oldone in c'ville

We are guessing 200Hp considering the removal of the power steering, new air system, and new exhaust.

Around 87,000 miles when we got it, at 88,000 now which reminds me the body just hit 100,000 the day before yesterday.

Cleaned, painted, and quite a bit of rerouting the wires...They dont quite fit where they do stock when you drop the engine in since the cabin is in the opposite direction from where it used to be >.<.

The Galaxy Diner is having their first cruise-in tomorrow starting at 4.  Raydar is going to be there, probably with his 4.9.  Bring yours up to help him wow the crowd.
