With this method, would the struts need to be loosened at the top?

Although I've never done an alternator on anything but an 88, I don't think so.
I believe the struts will allow the cradle to drop enough to allow the alternator to slip out between the cradle and frame rail.

Someone actually posted (I think on FB) that they were able to get the V6 alternator out from the top. I asked how, but I don't recall seeing the follow-up.
I can't imagine how... 
But I read it on the internet, so it's gotta be true. Right?

It might be possible to get it out from the top if the cooling tube was removed.  I don't know how much room there is on an automatic what with the snout of the transmission coming midway of the engine.

I just thought of something. What if you removed the dog bone and replaced it with some kind of turnbuckle. Then you could force the engine towards the front of the car, and perhaps make enough room to remove the alternator from the top.
The more complex the mind, the greater the need for the simplicity of play.

How often do you replace the alternator on a given car?  Or would said turnbuckle go in the tools bin?
