Thoughts on using brass?

Has anyone used or considered brass nuts for the EGR? For that matter, for the exhaust bolts/nuts?
Maybe I'm crazy, but I HATE rust! I don't want to have it, and CERTAINLY don't want to SEE it.

I don't know how brass would react to the high heat exposure. It might not hold the torque. Stainless might work, though. Of course, the threads should be slathered with copper never-seize, whatever the metal you use.

I looked this up a bit. Some said stainless; others brass. O'Reilly's sells brass exhaust nuts. The comments I read said not to use anti-seize.

Well, I didn't find brass, but I did find some coated steel. The nut on the right was installed to test exhaust heat.

If it’s the thought that counts, think money.

Brass will hold just fine. If you're lucky find some that are the 'lock-nut' style. Get some brass 'all-thread' and make some studs.

You can't fix stupid but, you can adjust it with a 2x4.
